Universal Nurse Finger from Tonics and Twisted Chasers (1996), pitch taken down by 3 semitones. They used the varispeed on the Tascam to make the pitch higher when recording the song. Here's approximately how it would've sounded originally. What do you think?

Willy is one talented and cool cat.
Beautiful

Muthafucka! I bloody luv yu. 🤩
Skylarking was overproduced.
No matter if it’s a song or a book. You need to consume anything this dude puts out. A creative force.
Awe I had a ginger too! She was the love of my life ❤
I needed this today.
Love PLASTIC SOUL. They do a lot of more obscure album songs
One of my favourite covers he has done ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Cool
love love love
This just unlocked a whole new world on the piano for me! I've been stuck on just fur Elise and moonlight sonata for years, now i can improvise.
More proof that XTC demos are better songs that most of what's on the radio today.
Agreed. I fully support Andy and understand his challenge to perform live, we all go through things. I was in plays in high school and hated being in front of an audience. I wish things had been different, XTC was about to explode after "English Settlement" but it is what it was. Thanks to the band for all their efforts. The Beatles didn't play live after 1966.
Ryan is the only one. My god.
Mr. Douglas was a first class gentleman. Talented big band singer and related w his audience very well. Interesting to note the shifting audience tastes.
Love his version.
one of the greatest songs ever written. Covered by one of the best song writers ever !!
just so damn cool !!
Beautiful !!!
Brilliant song, thanks.
Somehow making that 6 string sound like a 12 string. Such an underrated Guitarist.
In my opinion this video is the most magnificent contribution to this website ever
Damn! I love you for posting this & other PREFAB SRPOUT demos, a fantastic find, bless you!
You're welcome Chris! I think everyone should hear these great demos of amazing songs from a better time in music history.. so long as Paddy is OK with it.
@@blatantdoomtrip7950 Früher war mehr Lametta.
Bob is God.
Willy. Thank you. This is one of the most important songs in my life. I came across your music from a social media post by either Jason Isbell or Drive By Truckers - not sure which. DBT is my favorite band! It might have been Patterson talking about your writing now that I think of it. Anyway... It was the first Richmond Fontaine song I ever heard and I can only remember the first time I heard a couple songs...this is one of them. Thank you for your work. I wish I could of seen you guys live, but I was late to the party...but thanks for the music.
Xtcs demos are better than anything lately, except 3 clubmen and Pixies.
This is so beautiful. Hearing and seeing ryan talk about this awesome song and it's development. Woa. A little goldmine we can call ours. Cheers.
what a great song.
Mr. Adams thank you for your Extraordinary Talent❤
This is so good im getting my guitar back tommorrow and going to start playing and writing again. Its been like 6 years since i stopped . This is what it took i guess lol ❤
one of my favorite songs from my favorite album. ggg green Isaac... No one but Paddy could do something like this
I think that one was written for Carrie Hamilton.
Sure is like Bob to make a demo thats somehow better than the hifi big rock version.
This is sweet. Everybody talks about Bob's songwriting but his singing is what really does it for me. His voice is outstanding and he's almost always in pitch live.
This sounds like an outtake from the session, not a demo. Thanks for posting, this is rare gold.
Only 5 comments?? Wow…. Ryan, let me just say that this song and so many others you crafted are treasures. You’re an amazing singer and songwriter. I’ve never seen you live. If you decide to tour again, please stop in Oklahoma. More artists should cover your songs. ✌️🎸
Wow!
too cool, Thanks for this.
best not to be paper trained...self taught is the way
Yes! Thanks for the upload, such a good song
fantastic amazing demo !!! I like this demo than studio album version
Ryan is the best songwriter of the millennium so far by a country mile. No one else is even close. Cold Roses is up there with Blood on the Tracks, Born to Run, and The Queen is Dead. A timeless classic. Not sure why it took me so long to properly discover his music. I bought Rock and Roll when it first came out in 2004, and heard Easy Tiger on a plane to Beijing a few years later, but didn’t start to work my way through the rest of the albums until the end of last year. So glad I did. Heard Cold Roses for the first time in March, and saw the solo concert in Bristol, England in April. A great night - the only thing missing was Magnolia Mountain. It takes me back to my younger days when every new record was like magic happening in my room. I’m just old enough to have bought The Smiths records when they were released originally, and saw them on The Queen is Dead tour in 1986. Don’t think I’ve heard anything as good as Ryan’s music in the intervening years. His albums are consistently wonderful and are continually surprising me. How many great tracks can you cram onto one album? Usually there’s a limit, but Ryan seems to have smashed through it. Nice cats in the video too. I thought mine was loud, but that one seems to have turned the volume up to 11. My iPad keeps cutting out tonight and this is the third time I’ve written this, so guess I must have really wanted to say it. Thank you for the music, Ryan. We were born into a light.
Is that his Harmony Rocket?
wow, just when you thought, you heard it all years ago. thanks for this, it provides an unexpecred injection of something new at the end of this drunken, retrospective night!
Wonderful
Just discovered this song!! ❤ right in the heart!
lovely pictures too
Chords anyone?
I love the rustic, primitive quality of this demo. Truly haunting. Only thing that bothers me is the repeated note at the end of the 2nd and 4th lines; glad he changed that for the final.
