      Hello! Thanks for watching - very much appreciated! Comments always welcome too! You’re right there are a couple of fairly straightforward fixes, however, I don’t expect to be employing fixes to a tool on its first use. If it was a £10 - £20 tool perhaps but this was a bit dearer than that. Am I annoyed with after care service? Spot on with that as well - there was none!😂 Maybe I’m over optimistic expecting a fairly basic tool that cost over £100 not to fall apart on its first use! Do I still use it? Yes. Would I recommend it? Probably not. Anyway, cheers again for watching - all the best! 🍻👍

      Hello again! Thanks for watching - very much appreciated as always. Cheers for the comment - always good to share a bit of knowledge 👍! I've not quite got round to the rear brakes yet but they will need doing soon! For our old V60 CC I did the 9V battery with jumper wire trick to move the parking brake, when I do this one I'll probably hook up an OBD unit to put it into service mode but for those that don't have one it's always good to have other options. Rather spookily I just took delivery of a new battery today for my car that i'll be fitting tomorrow. Didn't realise these Volvo's had a support battery, I thought it was exclusive to things like the S-Class with a dozen ECUs to feed. Quite amusing it needs one with a meaty 800 CCA AGM in the boot! Next job on my car will be replacing the rear shocks. Thankfully another very simple job.

      The W126 (and W116 and W123) are incredibly well built vehicles which helps when maintaining them a wee bit further down the line. I've been pleasantly surprised when taking this one apart at just how impressive the construction is on these, even down to things like the exhaust heat shield which is 2-3 times thicker than the same item on any other vehicle I've worked on. It sounds like you've had some incredible vehicles! It would be nice to have an older Ferrari in the garage (308 or 288GTO being my favourites). I think the W126 was one of the last truly well built Mercedes. Like you say - the accountants certainly had too much input in to the later series. Looks like yours is a canadian export. The dash cluster is in kilometers. I would recommend that you get yourself an obd1 scan tool. It will help not only pull codes (you can get away with using a paperclip), but also provide you live data on all the sensor parameters. I have a snap-on mt2500. They are not that expensive to buy. I wasn't aware of that Snap On tool - had a wee look on eBay - I may need to get one of them! I always buy a workshop manual for my vehicles if I can. • @2HopesGarage
      @2HopesGarage 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The new rear speakers sound as expected - a wee bit weedy but decent enough! There was no sound there before so they are a marked improvement! I never have the roof up so after 50mph the stereo isn’t much use anyway with all the wind noise on the go…. I had considered the C5 a few years back but am more toward the C4 now as it’s a bit smaller and more nimble feeling although the C5 would likely be a superior car to the C4. The LS engine is a cracking bit of kit too. That’s all dependent on getting mine sold though!

      @@2HopesGarage well at least you’ve got some sounds now! Better than nothing for sure…! love a C5 but the C4 is a much more iconic/classic corvette we reckon… Personally I’d try and go for an LT4 manual Collectors Edition if you can find one, I would imagine they are really good cars…! If not a regular LT1 would be my choice. L98 and Cross Fire Injection era cars are less interesting to me…

    • @2HopesGarage
      @2HopesGarage 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Had been considering the LT4 and would love one, however, if I was bringing it in from the States they are still in the expensive (<30 year old) tax and VAT bracket. The ZR1, whilst generally more expensive to buy are all under 30 years old now so cheaper to bring in at only 5% duties. And you get a legend! The 96's are the best built of the C4s though - most of the squeaks and rattles had been sorted out in the final year. Apparently!

      @@2HopesGarage Mityvac recommend airtool oil on there but any type of lube really to stop the metal on metal contact. It's a poor design on their part, there are so many complaints about it. Another option would be to use a Dremel to create a small groove for the pin to sit in so it doesn't move. I'm on the fence about getting one. For the price, there's a known flaw and it's a little worrying. But what's the alternative. The Laser 3752 is the same price but looks like the cheap design of the £40-80 ones. Just with a blue handle. But hardly any reviews. On the plus side the Mityvac has far more usage so for the same money, you're getting a far more widely time tested product with rebuild kit available. Even though the Mityvac has its known flaw, without reviews the Laser holds potential unknowns. Same with the Sealey VS403, it's about £15 cheaper than those two but same as the Laser, looks identical to the £20 ones and hardly any reviews, with one mentioning how it feels cheap, which makes you think are you paying 5x the price for the same item with known brand name on it. The £40 one's have a lot of bad reviews where the rivets can break off or do they don't hold vacuum. There's a Gunson one which is is £80 but hardly any reviews, and it looks identical to the £40 ones (Clarke, Draper - both rebranded Eastern ones), except it has a different colour rivet. So perhaps it is made in a different factory and is better quality. But Gunson have a very basic write up so makes wonder if is simply a cheap one where the name brings up the price. Or do you go for the £15-20 eBay ones which are likely the unbranded £40-80 ones, knowing they will fail but... you save £100 and you can buy one every year or two which is more pocketable. It seems impossible to find decent, let alone good tools anymore.

      Thanks for the fantastic comment! That’s a very well considered piece of information that folk can get a lot out of. It’s pretty much the list I ran through before settling on the Mityvac, although I hadn’t seen too many negative reviews at the time. I had looked at the Motive bleeder as well as. The Mityvac seemed to offer a good range of functions, which is what swung it for me. The handle has disappointed me though. I still use it but have to keep an eye on the pin movement so it doesn’t fall apart!! I’ve had good results with gravity bleeding in the past as long as time and patience are on your side! Like you say - it’s hard to know what one to go for. If I was to replace the Mityvac I’d have some pondering to do!! Thanks once again - all the best!! 👍

    Hi there Jas. Your channel popped up in my feed today and I spotted this video after watching your brake video. I've also been doing the maintenance on my own and family member cars since covid and really enjoying doing it knowing the work has been done with quality parts and oil. It's shocking but not that surprising what has happened in your case. From a little research I would be a little concerned about the oil (E455) they state they used though (and used at all previous services?). It is the dealers own brand oil that states on the packaging it is suitable for petrol engines only!? Especially odd as they do a Volvo specific 0W-20 oil (E472) that meets VCC RBS0-2AE spec. FWIW, my brother had an even worse example recently by a big main dealer franchise where it turned out a service wasn't carried out at all but he was charged over £200! Having previously done his rear pads I asked him why he didn't ask me to do the service in the first place and he said he wanted the dealer stamp as he was thinking of selling the car soon. Makes you wonder how wide spread these shady practices are. Very, I would wager.

      Hello! Thanks for watching - very much appreciated! Thanks taking the time to comment as well - especially when it has valuable insight and info. I hadn't even picked up on the oil spec - I would have hoped they would have got the oil right at least. The car has just been in for another service and we are still waiting on the invoice - I'll be sure to check that out and do a wee bit of reading up. Cheers for the heads up! I had a look at the filters this time and they had fitted the appropriate ones this time round. I'm looking at getting the rear brakes sorted before winter and also changing the brake fluid so there will be a video coming up on that. I'll try not to edit out a crucial detail like I did on the last Volvo brake video! 😬 I think you're right - I believe that the practice of fitting the cheap parts is carried out at corporate level at a lot of dealers in the expectation that not many folk will check up on the work. I reckon what happened to your brother isn't uncommon unfortunately either. Hopefully he got it sorted. I'm off to watch that video again to look at that invoice!! Funnily enough, I was going to change the thumbnail and title as it hadn't done well at all! Thanks again for the info - all the best! 👍

      @@2HopesGarage No problem, Jas. With my brothers car the first indication he got was after ~2,000 miles and a couple of months the change oil message came on at 5% oil life which was odd given the official 18K/ 2 year interval (way too high BTW). Clearly it hadn't been reset..... He couldn't really prove anything so asked me to just do the job properly. Let me tell you among other indications, the bottom splash guard hadn't been off for years with the amount of leaves and debris and the cabin filter which he was charged for had never been changed from the factory (car was just over 5 years old). Now I know quality Mann filters and the correct spec oil for these EcoBoost wet belt engines are in the car. I actually think an option for a cheaper aftermarket tier for servicing is a great idea but it should be transparent and obviously cheaper than genuine. In your case they used a Fram air and cabin filter which is the budget end but most importantly seem to have charged you genuine part prices. In fact you where charged £25 and almost £40 plus VAT for those parts that are available from your dealers own online store for £13 and <£25 inc VAT respectively! I look forward to a brake fluid video. It is the one job I've held off doing myself on the drive so far....

    • @2HopesGarage
      @2HopesGarage 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a shocker about your brothers car! Like you say - the modern extended service intervals are already too far apart. More so if the dealer doesn’t do the work! I believe the EcoBoost wet belt engines are particularly reliant on good maintenance. I have an F150 with the 5.4 3V Triton - an engine that relies on a good oil regime if there ever was one! The only person that services that is me! The Volvo doesn’t even have a dipstick - a terrible idea that’s increasingly common these days! 🤬 I agree that it’s a good idea to offer the choice of a more budget conscious service but transparency is key! The rear brakes on the Volvo are a few weeks away but incoming nonetheless! Will likely do the bleed with a Mityvac. Thanks for the comments - massively appreciated. Especially with so much good info and a bit of thought put into them. Cheers again - all the best! 👍

      @2HopesGarage please keep your camaro. I have owned mine since new love my Iroc Z. Owner need more videos about issues of stalling when warm. There are issues with the TPI engine. Would it be possible that you could do a video about the MAF sensor and stalling issues for 1990-1992 Camaros? Thanks again!

      That’s amazing that you’ve had it since new! There’s 2 or 3 guys have mentioned that they’ve had theirs since new. Fortunately, I’ve not had any stalling issues with mine yet - maybe Scotland is too cold for those issues! If I do have I’ll be sure to post a video about it. My curiosity is aroused though, so I’m going to have a wee nose into it. What’s the mileage and colour of yours? Just me being nosey!

      @2HopesGarage mine is a 1990 Iroc-z, Convertible. It has only 70K on it. Never winter driven. And hasn't been in the rain for 25 years. I bought it new March 1990 when I was 25 years old. Since 2010, I only take it out of the garage on nice Sundays from May to November. I have antique insurance on her. I live in Toronto Canada. I am blessed to have a wife that appreciates the car. When I bought my Camaro in 1990 I named her Ariel. 😂 She has stalling issues once the engine is warm. But will start right up since last year. My mechanic is having issues fixing the issue. He is going to pull the distributor to take a closer look. Maybe you would have suggestions? I could send you my email, with your permission. The help would be appreciated. 😊
