Remo on top. You can really hear especially with the toms the wood rather than a plastic sound Evans produces. I also use P77 on my snare and Powerstroke 4 clears on my toms for my reference one kit!

Hi - curious as to the reason for two 16 inch toms. I see one is a rack tom and one is a floor tom - do they sound similar or is the floor tom deeper?
Hi there, thanks for the question. I do have 2 16” toms. The mounted tom is 16x14, 7.5 mm thickness, 4 plies outer maple, 2 inner plies of mahogany. The 16x16 floor tom is of course 2 inches deeper, 2 plies outer maple, 6 inner plies of mahogany, and 10 mm in thickness. The iPhone may not pick all the sound up, but in person, there is a big sound difference. :)
@@PowerTom_kyle Yes, I think the true sounds of that quality kit are not coming through clearly - hard to distinguish the tone differential of the toms. Nice kit, enjoy it.

Hey there..I’ve actually had it this way since 1990. I’m very used to it. I also don’t want to move my toms, which I would have to if I used a bd hoop mount. 😊

Why didn't you mount everything to the rack, and eliminate the need for cymbal stands?
@@GeoSchildhouse great question. After spending about $1,020 on the rack, 5 PCX 300 clamps, and a couple of small items, I just didn’t want to spend any more money.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to tune each drum to a note. Both top and bottom heads. The top and bottom heads on each drum do not have to be the same pitch, but the pitch intervals between tops and bottoms must be consistent, and between consecutive toms must also be consistent. 😉

Do your crashes go from smallest and highest in pitch from left to right and get bigger in order as you move to the right?
@@bbdrms7283 hi there…I didn’t set them up intended that way. Honestly, I set them up where I think I can get a nice mixed variety throughout the kit. I just bought an 18” Medium A Crash…arriving any day now. I love all the variety of sounds you can get.

That eclectic piece of gear at 0:33 is a Pearl CH1030C, a curved cymbal holder. When I priced it online an unbidden horselaugh escaped me.
