“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, ESV)
God welcomes you home through His Son, Jesus Christ.
VIDEO DETAILS
The piano recording was the third take on 12/12/2024 at home on my Baldwin Hamilton baby grand piano.
I mastered using reverb, EQ, and panning in Logic Pro.
The video was recorded simultaneously using QuickTime and an EagleEye Camera.
I combined the video and sound recordings in Final Cut Pro.
I photographed the sunset behind Lizard Rock in Wildwood Regional Park, Thousand Oaks, California, on June 2, 2020, at 8:13 PM. I used 12% opacity on the photo until the movie's end, when I switched to full opacity.
BLESSING
“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”

The counterpoint in the opening chords represents a gentle tenderness. When I glimpse God’s love for her, so...

SOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL! ANGELIC! Thank you, Mark!
Is the Eric Hansen you're playing, used to be a therapist? He used to be mine when I was a child. His music helped me and I'm searching for it again.
I think that it is a different Eric Hansen, since my friend is a carpenter and handyman. God bless you, Jinny. May you find peace you need in Christ.
I hope you keep it up along with all your physics studies.
Great jazz! Well done! ❤❤❤

I find the 81/64 Pythagoꝛean thirds vſed here quite exciting and expanſiue. I vſed to be a big pꝛoponent foꝛ 5 limit iuſt intonation but in dealing with a 3 limit tuning extended out to 53 notes per octaue, I found it to be moꝛe pleaſing and pꝛactical. As the diminiſhed 4th in that tuning is leſſe than 2 cents flat of the 5/4, but becauſe it is a fourth and not a third, it has a vnique role in voyce leading. Alſo pleaſe only vſe and read and beleeue the authoꝛized 1611 Holy Bible aka the King Iames Bible. The ESV is a coꝛruption of God's woꝛd tranſlated in part by Catholics and thoſe who yoke vp with Catholics. It came from manuſcripts that alſo come from the Vatican and are the vaſt minoꝛity. They are peruerſions and ſhould not be vſed. God pꝛeſerued his woꝛd in Engliſh perfectly in the King Iames Bible. Pꝛaiſe God that we haue acceſſe to it. Pꝛomoting new verſions only encourages other people to read and quote them.
Thank you for your care, prayer, and insight both in regards to tuning and translations. I do feel more of God’s light when reading the KJV or even the NKV than other translations. I will take what you said into prayer. Christ bless you and yours, Mark Lybarger-Monson
@@marklybargermonson Amen. I would alſo warn you of the NKJV. It was created blending KJV readings with thoſe of the new verſions from the Vatican coꝛrupted manuſcripts like the Sinaiticus and Alexandꝛinus. The NKJV was made with the actual intention of getting people away from the KJV and get them comfoꝛtable with reading the Vatican bibles. Pleaſe ſee "The Real BIble Verſion Issue Exposed" video here on TH-cam. It is well documented and ſhows in detail the impoꝛtance of this iſſue. God bleſſe.
Beautiful
Thanks, brother Andy!
Beautiful combination of music and pictures, Mark! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks, John. I appreciate you and your encouragement, my brother in Christ!
while it is in G, it is not in myxolydian, but major, I'm not sure exactly how the modes work, but when you use the sharp 7th it and don't use the flat 7th once I wouldn't deem it to be mixolydian
though the minor 7th would likely be employed in second species counterpoint, I feel it is disingenuous to classify this as mixolydian in the modern era
Good point; however, note that Fux did the same thing. Likewise, Lydian becomes “major” when using the Bb because of musica ficta (simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musica_ficta). For a modern ear and sense of theory, your point is valid. I guess I am using the assumptions of Fux. Before meantone temperament, modulation was not used except to go the F-centered modes (ex. Hypomixolydian). G to G would be considered Mixolydian even if using a leading tone at a cadence. In fact, all the modes use leading tones at cadences. Keep in mind that Phrygian has an upper leading tone (and Locrian; however, it was not used due to the diminished fifth with the tonic). Yet from the standpoint of contemporary usage of modes, you are correct. Keep shining!
@@marklybargermonson thanks for the thoughtful reply, have a good day!
Goodness. NO comments ? I appreciate this presentation - Thank you . I’m a respected ( in my circles , anyway ) pro musician. I briefly and privately studied strict counterpoint 50 years ago. I never got far into it. Maybe 3 rd species in two voices . But it never left me. So to speak . Would it be a pipe dream to find examples of where the Masters Had examples of counterpoint .. where we ( or I ) could witness what a Mozart ( Palestrina - Bach etc ) did ? I would pay for the privilege Thank you again
John, thank you for your encouragement. Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and all the European composers of the classical and romantic periods studied Fux’s “Gradus ad Parnassum” or some derivative of it. Here is an English translation of it: The Study of Counterpoint: From Johann Joseph Fux's Gradus Ad Parnassum www.amazon.com/dp/0393002772/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_71PANANG7V6XH44WJMFA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 God bless you on your counterpoint adventures.
Also, Jacob Gran is an outstanding theorist who really understands the heart and history of counterpoint. Check out his videos:

Hey, thanks for the playlist! Keep up the good work! Im very interested in counterpoint and even though we learned quite some in the musical high school I attended, we skipped a lot due to covid (especially the different types of counterpoint as you categorized them and the writing of a fugue). I hope you will continue to do such awesome videos!
Wow! Thanks for the encouragement. I hope to do more.
God bless you in your musical journey and life.

I love this piece of art so much! I can't believe it says "improvisation." Amazing Music and piano playing!
Wow! Thank you.
What pitch is this in?
Thanks for asking. It is tuned to D in just intonation in Finale notation software via Aria Player. Since A is set to 440 Hz, and D is derived through equal temperament (I think), D would be 293.665 Hz according to Wikipedia. The other pitches were then be calculated by Just Intonation relative to this D.
The tuning ratios for just intonation are listed on this page: usermanuals.garritan.com/ARIAPlayer/Content/tuning.htm
So beautiful!!!

Pythagorean tuning is a good choice to contrast the perfect concords (tuned as simple ratios) with the imperfect (rather complex). A little nitpick in that your blurb says the M3 and m6 of 1/4-comma meantone are tuned to 5/4 and 25/16 respectively, and while I know what you mean, I think this is a little misleading, as readers will think that a minor sixth in 1/4-comma meantone will usually be 25/16, which is incorrect. All (true) major thirds (four fifths up) are tuned as the simple ratio 4:5, meaning all (true) minor sixths (four fifths down) are tuned as the simple ratio 5:8. With a compass of Eb-G# (one of the most common 12-tone compasses, although going beyond 12 tones has many benefits), one has pure 4:5 major thirds from Eb-G-B, Bb-D-F#, F-A-C#, and C-E-G#, and therefore 5:8 minor sixths from G#-C-E, C#-A-F, F#-D-Bb, B-G-Eb. Meanwhile, from C to G# is not a minor sixth but an augmented fifth, equal to two stacked major thirds, and so the ratio is (4:5)x(4:5)=16:25, hence your comment. I'm also not sure Bach intended true meantone tuning for his Inventions and Symphonias, as most of his output is best tuned to 12-tone circulating systems such as well-temperaments, though sometimes a gentle meantone like 1/6-comma can be quite lovely. To have those 15 keys sound well in a meantone, likely upwards of twenty pitches of a meantone spiral would be necessary.
Cam Taylor Thank you, Cam, for your helpful feedback once again. I will study this more and modify my video description. In agreement with you, I was told by a piano teacher at UCSB that the C minor invention would have been an extremely expressive canon due to it pushing the extremes of the meantone system. 1/6-comma meantone is one of my favorite tuning systems. The melodic seconds and harmonic fourths and fifths sound better to me than 1/4-comma meantone, and the thirds and sixths are in a nice place between just intonation and what I normally hear in equal temperament. I am considering trying to make a Scala file that averages the intervals of equal temperament and just intonation for this purpose. God bless you and yours.
Cam Taylor, I reread and contemplated your comment and I agree that if a M3 is 5:4, then the inverted m6 is 8:5. So if Ab to C is tuned to 5:4, then C to Ab is 8:5. However, since E to G# is 5:4, and C to E is 5:4, C to G# is 25:16. Yes, we need more than 12 notes to have it work out better, so that we can have both an 8:5 Ab and a 25:16 G#. My previous note is misleading because in meantone, there would be 8:5 sixths, such as E up to C.
Mark this was beautiful. thank you for sharing this with me. Danna
dannasouthwellmusic Thanks, Danna.
Thank you for this simple, beautiful unfolding music improv composition. It is reminiscent of Jonah's watchful, thoughtful presence. His quiet nature overlies the joy and anticipation of God's blessings, if we only look deeply.Just as when he was a small boy, he looked deeply into a rain puddle, he quietly looked, then, "Hi" He discovered the little boy looking back at him. He greeted his reflection in the water. Miracle.
Thanks, Mom! We love you and look forward to seeing you.
