How to Decide What To Focus On - When you want to do everything
3 ways to stay dedicated to what is important in life, in a noisy world (and with a noisy mind).
We are immersed in infinite options and distractions of alluring things we could be doing. Naturally we often find ourselves wanting to do all the things.
A holiday in the Mediterranean, surfing in Bali or visiting pyramids - Why choose?
Pursuing a career in finance, running a TH-cam about cars, or becoming a teacher - Frustrating huh...
Leaning into philosophy and the inner workings of our psychology we explore three lessons and mental models to help us calm our frenetic obsessions and build peace. We'll learn how to build an ability to focus on what matters, ignore passing surface desires and invest deeply in ourselves
Some outcomes of this episode:

• Investing in yourself for the long term

• Recognise your different personalities and free them

• Prevent getting mentally ahead of ourselves

• Enjoying the journey

    This is a very clear, concise, yet still personally interesting description of the Default Mode Network. I do enjoy neuroanatomy, I'd like more of these videos, you could even describe where in the brain things are located, even though the DMN is very dispersed. You really covered a lot, thank you! More neuropsychology, please!

    RED HOT WHITE BURNING HOMICIDAL RAGE AND SUICIDAL DESPAIR The four indicators of an UNHEALTHY relationship that is most certainly DOOMED: - criticism - defensiveness - withdrawal - contempt Once you’ve got contempt, it’s pretty much over.

  • @JuztN_Illuxion
    @JuztN_Illuxion 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Constructive criticism should be intended to help the recipient, but it can sometimes be given in ways that aren’t genuinely helpful or considerate of the recipient's situation. In some cases, people provide constructive criticism not to benefit the recipient but to make themselves feel superior, validated, or happy. This can make the criticism feel insincere or self-serving, undermining its effectiveness. Effective criticism should be empathetic, relevant to the recipient’s needs, and aimed at genuinely supporting their improvement."

    Damn I've been super addicted to checking crypto prices How'd u know lol I'm so damn distracted from everything, 40 yr old living at home.. Starting over. • @growthmindsetpodcast
      @growthmindsetpodcast 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Yea crypto sucks you in. I would avoid day trading and if you're planning to hold longish term and swing trade avoid checking prices and limit yourself to once a week/weekend. After a while the urge to constantly look leaves you. Possibly delete apps or remove notifications as well. It's proven that monitoring and being 'informed' makes you a worse trader - (My latest episode on cognitive biases in finances covers this) Hobbies are a good place to start but also actively ignoring your tech as a rule can then open up space for things. Good luck and go easy on yourself!

      @growthmindsetpodcast 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This section was removed earlier and just waiting for YT to complete the update. Thanks though. Technically they do help reduce blood pressure which plenty of reviewed studies confirm. However, their main purpose is cholesterol management and easier to not mention.

    Had to stop when you said statins are for blood pressure.

    • @growthmindsetpodcast
      @growthmindsetpodcast 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for flagging. Removed this. Frustratingly, if you Google "Do Statins reduce blood pressure" Google says yes and points to all the science confirming this (so I wasn't completely wrong). But if you Google "what are Statins for", it obviously states cholesterol or if you try "What medications are used for lowering blood pressure" then it doesn't recommend statins at all and beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, ARB inhibitors... But yes, I hate it when someone wisely gives an analogy in an area you understand and they get it wrong. I want to be a podcast that is anti-mindset bro and based on accurate science... Learning 🤓

    Statins don’t maintain your blood pressure.

    • @growthmindsetpodcast
      @growthmindsetpodcast 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback. I have removed it as this is a side effect rather than their main role. Statins specifically target cholesterol as the immediate function. However, this is shown to help lower blood pressure in the long term. The National Institute of Health also specifically states that statins lower blood pressure.

    I'm actually writing a "book" right now that apparently the algorithm knows about because it placed this video abnormally high on my feed. It's very much about understanding why I am how I am and how to unlearn a lot of my bad behaviours. The story about the blogger just writing in his own voice resonatted with me because I struggled with how I'd write it seeing as its a collection of other things ive already written, and that just watching my "voice" change over time really adds something to it... anyway long story short. this really connected with me, specifically today. I'm from Maine, we dont pronouce our letters either. so, thanks!

      If I ever finish it and want to do anything with it I will definately let you know. Honestly the feedback of a stranger who knows nothing about me and has no personal stake in it would probably be very helpful. But it's still way too early to show anyone. 1: its kind of a 200 page outline; its too early for people to see what i see and 2: even just talking about it right now is triggering a *completed* flag in my brain that I'm trying to avoid so I dont lose motivation. But thanks again, kind stranger on the internet. lol
