Sega Master System 2 composite output mod
No more tuning in the TV on old analogue UHF signal feeds!
This one didn't give me the results I was after on a modern panel, but it did improve the output when used on a CRT screen.
The composite chip was from www.thefuturewas8bit.com/
You can see the same mod on a Binatone TV Master VI with better results here: studio.th-cam.com/users/videohK6vId_YHlw

Binatone TV Master Mk 6 Composite Video Mod
มุมมอง 5342 ปีที่แล้ว
No more tuning in the TV on old analogue UHF signal feeds! This little mod gives a rock solid image via composite input which you can use with various video convertors to work on any screen. Filmed in June 2020, took a while to get out there and the price of the modchip has increased slightly (like everything!) This is the mod I used: www.thefuturewas8bit.com/deluxe-atari-composite-video-mod.ht...
Microsoft wheel mouse optical usb and ps/2 compatible
มุมมอง 6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I tear down the Microsoft wheel mouse optical usb and ps/2 compatible and give it a recondition/clean up. This is one of the few laser mice which are PS/2 compatible and can be used on older hardware like the Commodore Amiga. That's why it's valuable for me to keep it working so I can use it with a 9 pin to USB (PS/2) adapter.
Akai DX57 repair - does not play tapes.
มุมมอง 18K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Join the Tinkerer as he works out why this Akai DX57 rewinds and forwards, but will not play. The usual problem with ageing tape desks is rubber band drive belts which go saggy or decompose. Using the official Akai maintenance manual I'll strip down this tape deck and get it playing again. UPDATE: Thanks to @Gianluca4752 for this improvement on removing the wires: " to remove the four flat cabl...
Vectrex Repair - sound but no picture, power switch refurbish.
มุมมอง 2.9K4 ปีที่แล้ว
I was given this Vectrex to try to repair, at first I thought it was down to blown capacitors but on further investigation it was discovered to be a faulty power/volume switch. I couldn't find any guides on how to tear down a faulty switch in detail so made this to show those who want to tackle this simple repair. Some links that helped me: Vectrex repair guide has list of components to check. ...
Fan Replacement on Samsung Dual Oven BQ2Q7G078 / XEU
มุมมอง 4.5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
The fan on our Samsung fan assisted oven model BQ2Q7G078 / XEU stopped working! It is an easy fix though, in this video I take you through how to it. Top fan part number DG31-00018A, but do double check!
Novation Bass Station 2 repair faulty non working keys.
มุมมอง 1K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In between putting my Bass Station II away and taking it back out around a third of the keys mysteriously stopped working. If this happens to you, don't panic! It's hopefully an easy fix - the only thing to be wary of is how to open the case so as not to pull or snag any cables. Squeeze open the clips and pull away from the connector and simply reconnect. Make sure you don't squash the cable du...

I was chosen at random(?) by Imperial College London conducting a study on behalf of the Department of Health and Social Care to help the Government develop its approach to COVID-19 testing.
Fitting rear discs and pads to Hyundai i30 CRDi Blue Drive SE 2012 - 2017
มุมมอง 70K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this hobbyist video I explain in detail how to change the rear discs and pads on a Hyundai i30 CRDi Blue Drive SE from 2015. It's a pretty simple job, but because can be daunting to be messing around with your cars brakes if you're never done it before I want to illustrate what's involved. Note; I'm not a pro mechanic. I did build a kit car once so have some skills and decent tools - but not...
I thought my Binatone TV Master Mk 6 was broke, so I stripped it down to fix and play.
มุมมอง 1.7K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Much like many other computer enthusiasts of my generation, my parents bought this as my first home game console around 35 years ago. I kept it as I had fond memories playing it and have been meaning to spend time getting it working again after neglecting it for far too long. I thought it was broken and was expecting this video to be a repair guide, but you'll see how that worked out!
Did you not use any contact cleaner and dielectric grease or some kind of lube for the power switch. You were in there, should have gone the extra mile :) Great job! Im on my own Vectrex path to install Buzz off kit with LM386 audio amp from ebay with three wires. The two that needs to be soldered to the power switch should be a shielded cable. You can take a shielded network cable for that if you want!
They could have spared a few more screws. When pressing the two parts together, I destroyed the buttons. I also destroyed a button cleaning the outside and pushing too much. A common issue with these is that that the cable breaks. I'm not good at soldering. It seems that the white block doesn't pull off and must be desoldered, and then I guess the cable will not be very secure. Most mouse had a PS/2 compatibility back then. I didn't like how they hang off the PC with the adapter.
Great job 👍
Many thanks for your video, it help me to repair my Vectrex 🙂
That's awesome! Nice one. :)
Many thanks! It was a nice job. I think you could marked the bolts by paint marker before unscrew them to be sure when you tighten them to the same torque.
Doubt that would work. Use a torque wrench.
Nice idea, but it doesn't really work like that unfortunately. Best idea is to do it properly with a decent torque wrench.
Thank you for the right information's
Bardzo pomocny material video😊
Cheers, I had a bit of a argument with the suspension bolt, but got it back, did the other side in half the time. And cleaned the wheels properly too. However, hand break adjustment. Have you got a video for that? As mines on 9 clicks, and I’m getting mixed responses.
I was naughty and didn’t do it. All was fine with it on mine so I didn’t mess.
@@The-Tinkerer shame, mines on 9 clicks still with new pads. Not sure if it’s just adjusting behind the hand break or if it has to be done by the wheels.
@@The-Tinkerer oh and thanks for the Video, really good. Finished my other side so much quicker.
@@lukefulton9170you’re welcome, glad it helped
Похоже, это самый неудачный механизм от Sankyo.
Very good video, thank you very much. We have noticed that non of the fans are working on our oven, so I guess that both of them have gone, if not the main board, how ever all other works.
Thanks, hope you figure it out OK!
If replacing only pads (not disks) does caliper holder need to come off or just the caliper?
I think you'll be fine just removing the calliper.
U should have turned the wheel towards you.
Hi, thanks for your feedback. These are the rear wheels, I'm unsure what you mean by turning them? Thanks.
Thanks for this video, chap. Just used it to fix mine! (same issue. Sound, no picture). Worked a charm. Now to figure out why the cartridges aren't working :D.
Great! Glad to have been of help.
yeah the angle thing was just the degree of deflection your ''ball'' would leave the ''bat'' with, but im sure you know by now lol
my first too, loved this thing
My lower fan and lower ring heating element stopped working af a self-cleaning cycle. Probably going to have a look at it and check thermal fuse. Thanks so much for your video! It is insanely useful
Glad it's of help. Hope you get it going, let us know how it goes! Thanks.
It's three years since you posted it but thanks so much for this video and the great camera angles. I will be doing this job on my Elantra GT (aka i30) tomorrow and this puts my heart at ease.
Still relevant 😁 Hope it goes well for you
Excellent tutorial! Thank you, just about to tackle mine with your help (same issue)
I hope it helps. Let us know how it goes!
Thanks! Here's an update: The problem with mine was the power button couldn't be turned off so I had to turn it on from a switched power bar. Other than that everything worked fine on the Vectrex. Volume, picture, sound and start up time were all perfect. I was happy with it but the switch always bugged me (I can't stand things not working the way they should) so after seeing your video I took the plunge, I have all the necessary equipment including a binocular microscope and I'm fairly good with an iron so I thought why not? Anyway, I managed to de-solder the switch from the board, opened it up, cleaned the contacts, threw a tiny bit of silicone grease in there and put it back together. Whoever invented that switch is both a genius and a total maniac. That thing was a bitch to get back together but I eventually managed it. Gave it a turn and it clicked!! Turned it back off and hey presto, another click! I was ecstatic, god only knows how long that switch has been in that state up until now. So...I reassembled everything, plugged it in, turned it on, heard the familiar sound of Mine Storm and.........no picture, except for a white dot in the middle of the screen. My heart sank :( I spent the next hour googling and trouble shooting. Checked all the voltages with a multimeter and found that one half of the board wasn't getting adequate power. It was definitely the power switch but why? everything looked good and it clicked nicely. The good news? I eventually got it fixed!! The problem? A small hairline crack at the base of one of the 4 wire terminals on the back of the switch. A little bit of flux and some solder a power on and everything works! Couldn't be happier. Just goes to show how such a small, simple and easily overlooked problem can bring the whole system down. Anyway, thanks again for your great video, hope this may help someone else with a similar issue.
Very helpfull for my Kia Sportage 2015... Great video, thx !!!
Glad it helped!
thank you very much for this
You're very welcome!
Thanjs for an excellent video, really brought back the memories of my 1st ever 'console' - even if fairly rapidly superceded by the classic Atari 2600 (happy teenage days!) 🙂
Thanks. Glad to bring back some memories for you.
Congratulations for this great video! I own the AKAI GX-69 from 1993 which is essentially a "facelifted" GX-67, and has essentially the same mecha block but has one motor more (the one for opening/closing the cassette door), and I did the same thing (replaced belts) some time ago. Just a note: to remove the four flat cables connecting the front panel to the motherboard is not necessary to remove the white upper part of each connector, just push it downward (to open the contact springs) and gently pull the flat cable! You have, instead, to remove the upper part when later you will reinsert the four flat cables in order to lock the small contact springs of each connector. For the rest the video is a treasure! Thanks for sharing this. Best from Italy
Ciao Gian! Thanks for your lovely comments and for the tips on removing the connectors. I'll update the description with that note so others can learn from your comment.
Nice one.. did just that it... it worked!.. how often does that happen.... mm never hehe.. Thank You... x
It's only happened to me once so far. Bit of an odd one isn't it? Glad it helped.
@@The-Tinkerer I should say mine is a mk1.. thanks again
So helpful cheers mate

Great Video! I just got the same one for free with the same issue. With your vIdeo i might fix it. :)
Good luck! Let us know how you get on.
Anyone else struggle to get the lower suspension arm bolt back in after changing the discs? 🥴😢
Excellent video helped me tremendously. Keep up the Good work Many Thanks.😊
Thanks for your nice words.
my model is ne58f9710ws but can t see the part number over the piece. where should i order this part? thanks
I'm sorry, I can't help with that. I only researched the oven we have. I hope you find one soon!
Bought mine brand new from Woolies in '82 or '83
Woolies had everything - sadly missed.
If you use a 14mm swan neck spanner you dont have to remove the suspension arm bolt or move the arm to access the lower recessed 14mm caliper carrier bolt
Great tip, thanks!
great video thank you
Thanks. Glad it was useful.
22/7/23 My Vectrex has the same problem but I dont know anyone who van fix it. It is in perfect condition otherwise

i still use that wheelmouse 1.1, the left mouse button is problematic these days needing a harder press to activate so need to open the mouse and replace the micro switch.
Yeah - they don't last forever. I had to do similar on an Amiga tank mouse.
I was about to ask if you ever put it all back together and had to take it all apart again. Because I sure had to. I guess I got my answer at the end lol. Nice repair.
Yes, that was….annoying! 🤣 thanks for watching!
did you not have to screw the brake piston into the calliper to adjust the handbrake?
I got away without needing to adjust the handbrake.
The patch buttons (previous/next) have stopped working for me, although a bit different from your case, I'll open the hood and have a peek.
Good luck! Let us know how it goes
Superb disassembly! It is interesting to watch other 'tinkerers' and enthusiasts trying to fix equipment such as this, but their haphazard methods and clumsy teardowns leave one with the feeling that these machines must have been nearly impossible to manufacture. This careful and thoughtful disassembly clearly shows the order with which things were put together and how easy it can be to service equipment with the right procedure.
Thanks Alex, glad you liked it!
ЛЕГКО, ПОКА ТЫ САМ НЕ НАЧАЛ ЭТОТ РЕМОНТ.
Any ideas if this mod would work on a MK10?
Not sure, I'd expect so. You might reach out to these guys as they've done a Mk 8 and another model, check out their blogs: blog.tynemouthsoftware.co.uk/2018/05/binatone-tv-master-mk-8-tv-game.html blog.tynemouthsoftware.co.uk/2018/05/binatone-superstar-programmable-tv-game.html
@The-Tinkerer Thanks - the blog doesn't seem to have a contact unfortunately. I do have the original mk10 manual which has a diagram on the mainboard in my unit but I'm not technical enough to understand it. TY won't let me post a link to it though.
May I ask, any tips on picking up the positive and negative on the board - my first port of call. I can see where the power jack connects to the board, but presumably that is 9v, for the mod it requires 5v ((or 6v as you managed). Is the voltage stepped down somewhere? Sorry if this is dumb newbie question.
So I actually managed to figure this out with a bit of luck and hit and miss attempts. I found the ground and 5v pretty easily and then tried the video wire on a bunch of solder points around the rf modulator and I have video on my TV via the RGB cables. My left player paddle is black on the screen (only visible when you move it over one of the white court line boundaries on screen) and the said boundaries are a bit wavey - so maybe I've not quite got the right video solder point on the board. First I am going to re-cap the board to see if that fixes anything though :)
@@robbune1792 nice job Rob. Weird with the black player/paddle?! Hope the recap goes well. I'm afraid I'm no expert in these things - just a tinkerer! ;)
Why you didn’t clean the housing underneath the chassis?
I'm not sure which part you mean, but this was a quick repair job rather than a complete reconditioning. Have you ever spent a bunch of time working on something only to reassemble it and find it still doesn't work? I just wanted to ensure the repair worked before spending more time on it.
Just done mine. Used a stepped spanner to get the bottom bolt out of calliper carrier. Worked great
Thanks for this Video, you did it! I wished you cleaned the Mechanismus a little better. You did an awesome job replacing the Belt‘s!
Thanks - yeah, I could spend time going back and cleaning it up better. The priority was just to see if it worked.
I am using this mouse right now, I've had it for years!
They’re robust and reliable for sure!
I have not done it for a long time watching this video just to catch up. Thanks.
how much dpi have this mouse i have one but dont know 400?
Not sure. I’d guess 400 or 600 maybe? Not that it makes much difference in use, especially on an Amiga 😋
Yes you done a good job the only thing I can say when you had the brake off perhaps you could have re greased the slider pins .
Thanks for the tip!
3.12 puch plactik 🤦♂👿😤😤😤
Way back in time i went watching this video! Thanks for reminding me it is somewhere up in the attic, probably one of these days i should tear it down and check if it is still working mate! Many thanks!
Go dig it out! Give it some love for Christmas. 😁
@@The-Tinkerer yep! you read my mind mate, great channel, subbed!
Just a thought: the TV says SCART so are you using a composite to SCART adapter? The pattern of repeated pixels makes me wonder if the TV has incorrectly interpreted the composite signal as S-Video which is a thing that I've seen happen. I have two old LCD TVs that both have the same behaviour, there's two SCART sockets: AV-1 is RGB/S-Video and AV-2 is Composite. Composite in S-Video causes effectively every other pixel to be wrong in a regular pattern. The other thing that springs to mind is it was a common thing on mega drives to remove the RF unit entirely if you planned to use RGB exclusively as the very presence of the RF unit caused regular interference on the RGB. I don't know if it is relevant for a master system 2, but it's a possibility.
Ooo! Nice idea, I’ll have to check that out. Thank you for your detailed comment and thoughts.
Thank you very much!!! I have exactly the same Tape - Deck and did the repair in the same way.... Works!!! I also replaced the two rubber rollers( I don't know the english word for this) from the capstan and the Micro-switches from the front panel also a refurbished remote control. It is a new Tape Deck and 31 years old....🤩👍👍👍
That’s great to hear, glad to have been of some help. I should’ve done the rollers too really. Good idea.
