Summer has arrived! (why I have so few videos)
Ah summer... the season of nights that slowly get longer again.
This video tries to explain my lack of TH-cam content. I'll try to pick it up again, but as the video shows, I have other hobbies too that compete for my free time.

The first clear nights of 2024 and the resulting images

2023 was brutal. Especially the second half. This year started with some clear nights and my Celestron EdgeHD 9.25" was in the garden taking in photons for several nights. Stacking Sunday 9: Do I get too creative with this Blinking Planetary edit?

Stacking Sunday 7: Starnet processing. It only took me 4 attempts

In this Stacking Sunday episode you'll see me attempt to stack and then process the Heart of the Heart nebula, Melotte 15. Stacking Sunday 6: A common mistake: Do not clip your background to black.

This episode of Stacking Sunday covers the Integrated Flux Nebula (IFN) around M81 and M82. In their own right, those galaxies are already very interesting due to their H-alpha details. But there is something hidden in the background, which is easily overlooked if you process incorrectly. Many people tend to make their images much too dark. Some do this to hide imperfections. I have a C8 SCT and I’m researching for a new mount. Too many AM5 owners review with short focal length scopes. I’m currently located in Utah, US, near the mountains and it clouds up every evening. I have an EHD800. In comparison to my TS 102/f11 SDP APO: if I take a picture from the Moon: EHD is much worse. It looks like a view through fog. No chance to beat the fine APO.

    • @KopLamp
      @KopLamp 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Bigger aperture telescopes are more susceptible to the seeing-conditions. A smaller aperture will give a sharper looking result, but you will not be able to resolve details as small as on the bigger aperture telescope. Secondly, on the EHD800 - especially doing planetary/moon shooting - you need to have proper collimation to get the best results.

    many thanks for this. at 9:32 u show entire unit rotating. that is if u want a different orientation of frame, to suit the subject - which i perfectly understand. but if i want to get more guide stars how do i rotate the prism?

    • @KopLamp
      @KopLamp 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When using an OAG there usually is no other way of rotating the prism other than I show. If you would rotate it separately from the camera you risk seeing the shadow of the prism in your images.

    Very good tutorial Martin! Thank you. I could not fully understand how you combine the H and O3 layers into a luminance layer: what did you do to combine these 2 layers?

    • @KopLamp
      @KopLamp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had to rewatch my own video 😅 I combined them by putting them both in a separate layer and putting the blending mode of the top layer to “screen”. I then played with the contrasts and noise before I used the result as a luminance layer.

    not heard anything else about your solar quest, did you sell the pst? i use a pst and a quark

    • @KopLamp
      @KopLamp 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Combining Solar astrophotography with parenting and work is difficult, so these moments are sparse. Also, my PST is not the best. I borrowed it from the observatory where I am a volunteer. It is not mine.

    Did you purchase an AM5 because of the issues you've had with you iOpton CEM40? Has the performance of the AM5 been any better than the CEM40? I have a Celestron AVX mount so I'm looking at what could be my next mount. I'm looking at the iOptron HEM27 and hybrid where the RA is a harmonic axis and the DEC is belt. The AM5 is another choice but I haven't had a good experience using my ASIAir Plus 256 with my AVX mount as I get mount disconnect errors. I've opened Bug Reports with ZWO but their lack of feedback and support despite using their latest 2.1.2 beta releases hasn't impressed me.

    • @KopLamp
      @KopLamp 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It was not directly related to the CEM40 issues. Those were resolved by the time I got the opportunity to test the AM5. After testing (actually during) I decided to sell the CEM40 and buy the AM5 from the shop that loaned me it for testing purposes. The performance is very similar to the CEM40 but with much easier handling.

    I have Stellarium for Apple. I tried this method sized the pano to 2048 x 1024 , named the file to match the Ini file. It says that it loaded correctly but there is no name in the side menu for landscapes it's just blank and the landscape does not show up it's just see through. Any one have any tips or came across this problem? I can't find a walk through for Apple if it's different.

    • @KopLamp
      @KopLamp 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have no idea about Apple. A possible alternative route is to put your changed files into a ZIP file. And then in Stellarium you can use the button that says “Add new landscape” (or something similar). You then get to point to the zip file and it should then be installed into Stellarium.

    I am about to get this OAG for using with my GSO 6 inch RC. But I live in Bortle 6-7 city sky. Afraid if I can get enough guide stars to see in that narrow FOV ? I have QHY 5LIIM guide camera. Do you get enough stars for guiding?

    I wonder if you can stich in GIMP? I notice you have some Siril Scripts for your ASI294. Did you modify existing scripts and make changes more suitable for your camera? Can that be done for other cameras such as ASI071MC? Might be a good topic for a video. I enjoy these stacking videos but only because I'm no where near your level of comfort. Thanks
