I watched this show years ago and loved it, but I've been rewatching it recently, and now I'm seeing how problematic it is, lol. That said, it still has a place in my heart

I watched Maid Sama back in middle school and liked it but hearing about it again a bit last year I couldn't really make up my mind cause I couldn't remember a lot of scenes, especially regarding Usui's actions. I think this video does well to explain the characters and the issue some of the actions brought

i guess i would have liked it if there weren't as many mood swings, s3xu4l h4rr4sment, and misaki always getting rescued. i mean, sure he can protect her at times, but half of the time she's just there while usui fights w/ someone. i wanted to see more of misaki actually being strong istead of this brute who's angry all the time and has a soft spot. i mean, i kind of liked it? mixed feelings about it

I personally loved maid sama and I agree with the video how the show can be sexist and etc. Maybe if they could’ve removed the sexual harressment and the other stuff It would’ve been a really good shoujo show. Kind of the same for ouran. Like how they were also being sexist etc.

Ah yes. I do dislike the show when the anime guy said "I think that the taliban is pretty based and awesome". I also didnt like when the girl said "Man the metoo movement was an absolute mistake. The sexual revolution too". And then at the end where they said "Vote from trump 2020!" The author really needs to get their act together

The show is okay but growing up I ADORED the Manga.

I understand the negative opinions and views of the show but it’s honestly one of my favorites. I didn’t really see the possessiveness and harassment in the first watch but I still watch it to this day. Mostly because I understand it’s fictional and I like the premise, execution wise it has not held up.

Im watching this after you have posted this for two years, but I still rewatch this show everytime I want to feel the high school love again!!

She’s even called him a creep but anyway I like this show just rewatched it but it would’ve definitely had potential to be good but you can definitely tell the writers wanted to manipulate young women if that weren’t the case I would’ve loved it more now that I’m older I think I understand more…

Also i heard we get usui’s backstory in the manga but he’s so meh in the anime. We get hints about his life all throughout but it’s never the main focus.

Honestly I thought it was painfully average and i hated the third act love triangle. I didn’t feel like i got a chance to truly love the characters like i do other stories :/ Also the ending felt rushed to me

I strongly agree with everything you said, and at the same time I recognize that the show was quite revolutionary for when it came out. The original Manga came out in 2005 Japan, which was a time where it was very common for tropes like these to exist in anime and Manga. Sexual harassment was considered a playful romantic gesture, saving the day unnecessarily considered a sign that the love interest cares about the protagonist, and the male love interest being better than the female protagonist considered mysterious, charming, and cool BECAUSE the protagonist is strong. What wasn't common however was a female protagonist like Misaki. Although objectively when unbiasedly analyzing the show she seems weak at the worst times and usui takes over, to the viewer from the time the only impression they're left with is damn she's strong and intelligent and hardworking. Keeping the then cultural environment in mind, this show was very phenomenal for its time, and I can't help but enjoy it because of the nostalgia I feel towards it. But I do agree with all the points stated nevertheless and every time I rewatch it as a I age (many times over the course of 9+ years), I realize that if I'd discovered this anime in my current age I wouldn't have liked it nearly as much as I do for the reasons you gave.

I liked the show but I hated usui

I saw this first of all in my teenage days my heart used to beat seeing this but when i started watching it all over again i just puked watching this i was like what the heck did i used to get crazy for?? and i just hate this trope of crazy hundreads and thousands of girls or guys simping over a character and the wierd part about this is that it really happens in their country like really?? what are we fools ?? i must say Oxygen is most attractive thing we all should simp for and not any person for their looks b'cause looks are just temporarary they fade away with time don't ever simp for looks simp for Oxygen i must say Oxygen is Real love a true one indeed.

i would say that Maid sama is a show for its time. Back when it was airing, the actions that Usui were doing were not considered problematic, but actually seen as romantic, since those are tropes that are prevalent in early 2000 romcom. I liked it when i watched it but i understand that there’s some problematic actions from Usui

Maid Sama is not a good show, but I love Misaki so much to like no end in truth, that it makes me appreciate the show just for her character. Usui was never attractive or even a good character ever, and I liked Hinata way more, but it makes me sad that such a great character has to be stuck in such an ass show.

I personally love Kaichou-Wa-Maid-Sama so much. But I do see the problems with the sexual harassment and you are right. To me the sexual harassment was kinda Usuis flaw? Like he was well meaning and caring but he went about it in the wrong way and that's what he had to kinda unlearn? I realise now that is not how the show played it off.

Thank you for making this video! I remember really loving this show when I was younger and growing to not like certain aspects of it because of realizing all the sexual harassment and threats towards Misaki that Usui made. I felt a little alone since it's still pretty much revered as a classic and people don't like to look at it from that POV.

First I'd like to say: feminism, womens rights Ok so now that thats settled I kinda can forgive usui, because he isn't real. Still very hot, very romantic, but if I ever encountered someone like him in real life I would get a restraining order
