The Beef Farmer
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 ธ.ค. 2024
Hello there!
My name is Liam, aka 'The Beef Farmer'. I farm beef suckler cattle alongside my partner, Sandy and our small family, here, in West Wales.
I have been an advocate on social media during the course of the last year, regarding the issues that we face in farming, particularly here in Wales and across the rest of the country.
Following numerous requests and suggestions by my followers to start uploading on to TH-cam; here I am! I will be posting weekly video blogs of farming in rural West Wales along with a variety of other farming topics; cows, sheep, tractors, contracting, politics, you name it, I'll talk about it!
Every Thursday a video will be uploaded 😁👍🏻
The ups, the downs and the realities of farming will all be covered.
See you soon and thanks for subscribing!

THE Cleanest Farm in Wales!
On this week's TH-cam video, you will join us on a Stabiliser open day organised by the Stabiliser Cattle Company and kindly hosted by the Jerman family in Mid Wales.
And what a system it is! The cattle look absolutely fantastic and the sheds and yard are so immaculate, that you will see my title was no exaggeration!
Also featuring in the video is an interview with Mr Stabiliser himself, Lee Leachman, CEO of Leachman cattle, Colorado.
An incredible day with a fantastic turnout. Glangwden Farm is a credit to Matthew Jerman and his family. I hope that you enjoy the video and I look forward to the comments! 😁👍🏻 #agriculture #agri #contentcreator #creator #farm #farming #farmers #livestock #stabiliser

Very wise to repair the sagging road.
Sonne FARMS
They look like red angus?
@@edwardbrewer3869 they do, there is part angus in the breed 👍🏻
How did you test/find out that your cows were deficient in trace elements?
@@rich7584 calves were a bit dopey and lacking vigour and so we contacted our vets who ran bloods on them which revealed the results.
Drive properly!
@@matthewgorman1307 how do you mean Matthew? If youre on about Sandy, shes handsfree and driving an automatic. Driving whilst having a sip of coffee is not illegal. And she is not distracted here with eyes on the road and driving steadily. But truly well done on being the very first person to put a negative comment up in my first 4 weeks of posting!
Definitely the cleanest farm in mid and west Wales. Always a pleasure delivering there😊
Was the Stabililiser a American breed to start ? Supose they are like the Easy care sheep of cattle being made from cross breeding a few times
Great video! What a farm!! Really interesting to learn more about the Stabilisers too.
@@DanielleCarroll-r4o cheers Dani! Glad you liked the video. 😁
Big noticeable thing I noticed was the standard of conformity whether it was Bulls or cows or heifers 👌 one thing I wasn't sure about was using some of the continental breeds occasionally, wasn't sure if he meant using them on the stabiliser cows or on the suckler herd 🤔 great video 👌
@@bobpaterson1845 yes they are very uniform Bob, like peas in a pod. Nice to have some consistency and conformity. By terminal crossing, he means to keep stabiliser cows and you can put a continental breed bull over them, the idea being that youll have a calf with stabiliser traits from the mother but with the extra weight and muscle from the father. Best of both worlds if you like. Myself, id prefer to keep them pure stabiliser for consistency but it is an interesting point.
@@bobpaterson1845 thank you for your comment
Me being old school, very old 🤣 think I'm still in favour of giving the cows an easier calving with relevant smaller breeds 🤔 reason I kind of think that way I worked on a beef farm with purebred Charolais and even with the large bodied cows had very many difficult calvings😕
@@bobpaterson1845 with age comes wisdom 😎😁👍🏻 i quite agree. We have gone into stabilisers for the ease of calvings, good fertility and feet, good feed conversion and they are naturally polled, so no dehorning. I think the days of difficult calvings due to these big calves are numbered!
Having watched all of your. TH-cam great to see real live on farms ,more sandy 👍 put mikes on jacket
@@nippinkoi8924 thanks for feedback, I only have the one mic. Will have to invest in another!

@@andrewbiffen4296 thank you Andrew!
I find that Saler cows make excellent cows especially on poorer quality land. They cross really well with Charolais bulls. Have you come across any Saler cows in Wales??
@@theoracle8560 yes, most certainly we have. They are very good cows I agree. Sandy grew up on a neighbouring beef and sheep farm running saler cows with a charolais bull over them and she always highly rates them.
Love the video . Fair play to Sandie for sticking to her guns. Would love to see a video on the stabilisers
@@michaelnoone9018 have a look at my other videos, they are on there. Also, there is a new video up tomorrow eveninf about a Stabiliser open day we went to 😁👍🏻 thank you for your comment
Should be able to get skid steer type front mount and use any skid steer attachments from that cab which is much nicer than any skid steer
@@johnkemp4370 yes, this is a possibility 👍🏻👍🏻

Also might drive a JCB 220 with telehandler boom
Great video lads. Really interesting info here compared to a lot of farming channels. Hope the channel is successful for you both. Keep it up and I look forward to your next video. All the best from 🇮🇪.

Top job Sandy 👌 Great to see an experienced and knowledgeable herd’s women doing an amazing job at pushing the farm on and implementing changes to improve the health, productivity and profitability. Big respect to the older generations for working hard and setting up the foundations of the farm and the suckler herd but it’s nice to see the younger generations then come through and drive the farm onwards and upwards

Liking the video we are having the same issues with calves here would be very interested in knowing what bolus you used. I have a channel of my own going doing the same as yourself
Hi Graham, thank you for your comment. We use the Mayo cattle boluses. Are you on other social media channels? If not, you're more than welcome to give Sandy a call and she can expand on how they work. I've subscribed to your page. Many thanks, Liam
I put up a few posts on instagram Facebook and TikTok I would be interested in talking to her as ye are using the product yourselves and not just a sales person just looking at the sale
@@Kavanaghfarming I know exactly what you mean. I couldn't believe the difference in the cattle after using them. Give Sandy a ring anytime on 07340 338982.
Cheers for that I’ll send her a text to check she would be free to take a call. Perhaps tomorrow we’ll see how it goes
Honestly, we do believe in boluses working its just the faf involved is the thing , I really like the pour-on Iodine mayo make , do it pre calving just walk through the cow on the yard/sheds "squirt, squirt.." and I'm done in 10 minutes
This is a very informative video and you should be making sure sandy is happy she seems to have the best interests of the farm in hand and is a very intrigral part of the farm ]

@@thebeeffarmerOG keep these informative videos coming my friend this is the sort of things people need to see
The lady sounds very knowledgable but I think there are some of us here are not farmers and we are trying to show our support so can you explain what a little of these terms are
Thanks so much for your comment. Completely understand, will do a video explaining the farming jargon soon, but is there any specific farming terms you'd like us to explain? Thanks again ❤
What an interesting video 👌 and a very lovely lady who definitely brings a lot to the table, as old school very old school was very happy to hear you mention Hereford and Angus 🏴 breeds 👍 and also ease of calving which in my opinion a lot of beef farms seem to have overlooked trying to produce as big a calf as possible but at what cost to the cow 🐄, wish you and your family a very Happy Healthy New Year from 🏴👌
@@bobpaterson1845 thank you for your feedback Bob, sometimes people forget that native breeds were doing the job okay for the beef job. Interesting walk round and demo of the machine seems to have good power and excellent manoeuvrability, my only concern would be reach 🤔 I noticed you stack your silage bales about 4 high and just wondered if it would have the forward reach for stacking the top row of bales as usually the stack of bales is stepped for stability 👍
@@bobpaterson1845 quite right. I'll be honest, I think it will be on the very limit if you want a full overlap on the top row. 👍🏻
