Well thought out insight as always. Lupita's acting chops saves the movie, as did the adorable cat. In addition to your analysis, I think the movie also goes into the background or "lore" of the aliens (Death Angels) by having the scene showing their "nursery" or hive center, complete with a large brood-mother tending to her babies. Since humanity knows how to neutralize the creatures (cannot swim, weak spot becomes vulnerable at certain high-pitched frequencies), I suspect the next movie in the franchise will be an action-horror film a la "Aliens" . It would be a stark and welcome change of pace since at this point, audiences have grown tired of watching humans skulking about like church mice trying not to make a sound when we know full well how to deal with these monsters. That's my theory anyways. Bang up job as usual, Michelle, keep up the good work!😃

    • @TeaBreakFilmReviews
      @TeaBreakFilmReviews หลายเดือนก่อน

Great theory! The hive went pretty unexplained but the lore is there so I would love to see a more eventful action / horror film come out of the franchise.

Shit...but given that Stewart has never been in anything that wasn't, literally nobody with a functional brain is surprised. Add to that the insanely stupid subject matter, and anyone with a three digit IQ(which unfortunately discounts its target audience) knows they can safely skip this one and still accurately give it the shit review it deserves.

I really enjoyed this movie when it was in theatres earlier in the year. It's so nice to see Steward and Pattinson take on more varied and challenging roles as their careers progress and are refusing to be pigeon-holed in the angsty or lovelorn actor archetypes. I have to give a shoutout to James Franco's character; slimy as all hell and watching him getting his comeuppance was truly jaw-dropping (clever pun I know). Thank you for another excellent review!😃

All of that is a good point but i also hated how they didn't wrap certain things up, SPOILERS Scabrus not having an exit before the end of the movie makes u ask where he is by fury road, where was corpus in all of this?, was that max in the desert and if so wouldnt he had already known of or at least seen the citadel? And finally the green place was only supposed to be full of woman with men only being on the outskirts but in furiosa i believe i saw men there which doesnt make sense since its supposed to be "the place of many mothers"

This is a theme through both movies (the title character being given equivalent or even lesser spotlight to another character) and I think it's very important to what the movies are trying to say. Both movies are about people being swept up in someone else's story - Max in Furiosa's bid for freedom, and Furiosa in Dementus's mad conquest of the wasteland - and in both movies, they are fundamentally powerless. Despite their status as the "main characters", they aren't the protagonists. They don't drive their stories. All either of them can do is survive, as powers far bigger than themselves clash and enact their will upon them. Contrast that against the depictions of power in these movies. Everyone who calls the shots - Joe, Dementus, the People Eater, the Bullet Farmer - *all* of them are villains. Even the movie's setting in a post-nuclear wasteland condemns, by implication, the people in power who would destroy the world for their own victory. The main theme of these movies is that power corrupts, and that while one can fight as much as one wants to change one's fate, the lengths one has to go to to actually achieve that in a meaningful sense make one an evil person. *That* is what Dementus is - a man obsessed with changing his own fate and driven to madness by doing so, compared with Furiosa, a woman who only wants to survive and help others do the same, and as such isn't capable of driving her story.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this out! 😊 You've explained a really interesting perspective and it certainly helps me look at Furiosa a bit more favourably. I still wish there was more of her but now I can appreciate a bit more about why there isn't!

I see what you're saying, it's a good point from a character motivation standpoint. My thought was that maybe it was Miller building to the severed arm moment, that taking the perspective off of her makes the hanging arm pop more.

She doesn't rip off her own arm. You should watch it again and pay attention to what happens outside the centre focal point. It's a very rewatchable movie in my opinion. You also do learn a ton about the green place and their culture, it's just that it's storytelling hidden in the details. Blink and you'll miss. It made for great conversation afterwards as we'd talk about the story details that we individually picked up on. Oh, and it's not that full- life women are forbidden to be other things than wives or milkers. It's just that those are very valuable roles to Immortan. But a skilled full-life praetorian road warrior who can train warboys and protect vital resources, you don't risk losing that to dangerous child-births or for a bit of milk. The movie never spends time to explain directly to the viewers that "this is the reason she doesn't go back to becoming a wife". It simply builds the world and trusts its viewers to come to their own conclusions based on the context that's given. It's not that the movie doesn't care, it's just that it requires the viewer to engage with it, rather than for the viewer to simply be a passive observer. The way it handles the themes of the movie and how they tie them into Fury Road is also fantastic. Anyway, I could gush about this movie forever.

The absence of details infuriates people. There are so many more details of "the world" that have been revealed. Furiosa does include Bartertown, Furiosa does incorporate Mad Max 2: the road warrior, and...., if you pay attention, you will find the original Mad Max movie does exist in Furiosa. Furiosa and Fury Road are one movie. (There's one part of this movie that still has to be made. I'm really hoping this happens.) How did the young Furiosa make herself invisible in Fury Road? She's already skilled at that. Removing her hair and adding sound making parts to draw attention to it. She knows everything that falls from the Citadel will be snatched up by the wretched below, to disappear into the caverns as Furiosa almost was when Dementus and his gang first arrived early on in the movie. The only trace of Furiosa was some hair hanging on the side of the rock. Sure, some see it only as "the passage of time" with the tree that sprouted. There's never any one thing to anything in Fury Road or Furiosa. Everything has purpose in the wasteland, many things have multiple purposes in the wasteland. Fury Roads details were never "revealed." You made up what those with what you were shown. The old woman was not "harvesting maggots." Maggots clean wounds. There's no medical care or hospitals out there in the wasteland. However Furiosa was dragged into the those caverns and met up with THAT particular woman is one of those details of "the world" that showcases how "the world" works here. That shocking scene was simply the hospital of the wasteland. What else is below? What else is above? You could almost reference the movie, "The Platform," with it's "Vertical Self-Management Center." Furiosa was able to make herself invisible at the Citadel, then make herself useful, per the history man's guidance. Furiosa was the gatekeeper by being useful with securing that chain. Everyone in the Citadel was there for a purpose, if you were in the Citadel, you had a purpose, you were useful. I disagree with the not-so shocking view of the random war boy delivering thunder sticks in a self-sacrificing method that was brought up. With the number of war boys indicated by the people eater, all of them being in relatively good strength, all of them looking very uniform and disciplined, this is a very strong and cohesive force of size in possession of a very formidable location. Unlike the very loose grouping of multiple groups in the bike gang that Dementus had formed up. At the first assault on Gastown, you can see in the set up to that where one gang member stated he took orders from his gang leader, not Dementus. When Dementus sacrificed that other gang leaders friends on the tanker, that caused a rift. They "went rogue" as seen later. You can see the chaos within Gastown, the delivery was an unruly mob. Don't forget, we saw the rock riders in this film, this is likely how Furiosa even found out about them. We didn't see the Spikey Cars group, so they are out there somewhere in the vicinity.

Expert review. I enjoyed Furiosa but it has little rewatch value. Unlike Fury Road, which i enjoy rewatching. The character I most enjoyed was actually Praetorian Jack. He was a good mentor and very mysterious. Hemsworth was a little too over the top in his performance.

I didn't talk much about Praetorian Jack, but I did enjoy Tom Burke's performance. In some ways, being so subdued and calm meant the character provided good balance against the craziness going on but at times, he did feel a little concerningly unfazed by the madness haha.

This was the one movie review I really wanted to hear your opinion on, given that Furiosa was my most anticipated film of the year. It's times like this I wish you had a numbers scale (1 -- 10 or 0 -- 5 stars, etc.) as to gauge on your definitive outlook on the film, but at least you and I both agree that Hemsworth was the standout character. This movie so far is my favorite film of the year (beating our Dune II and Apes) and I think it is an excellent piece of work, it's just not at the unfair level of expectations of Fury Road. I did enjoy your review and found myself nodding my head in agreement at your points of criticism of the film; once again your deep analysis of movies makes me see the product in a different light, and that's why I love watching your videos. Thank you for the upload and all the work that you do!

    • @TeaBreakFilmReviews

Thank you for watching and for your continued support! :) I find using a rating system quite difficult as it would be very subjective. In my TH-cam reviews I do try and consider objectively why something I have liked others may have disliked and vice versa, leaving you to decide whether you agree or disagree. I use Letterboxd more as a record for myself, so there I've given it 2.5 / 5 stars. For me, Furiosa didn't meet my expectations but Dune 2 exceeded them, though I do agree that Fury Road is a hard act to follow.

Great review. I actually watched Parasite after this one. However I read many books and videos about psychopaths prior to watching this film and for sure the protaganist is a psychopath. Which would answer the question as to why he cant freelance or work his way up- do you remember at the beginning of the film when he unveils his portfolio to the potential employer- they find it trite and hokey and dated. He has no creativity and recycled tired tropes such as utilizing the opera Duet Fleur his commercials which was done to death by the mid 90s already. The guy is not good at what he does . Psychopaths are mediocre and the only thing that terrifies them is that they are found out. However they are great at schemes, manipulation, gaslighting, love bombing etc which Javier obviously excels at. I liked the film but I did see movies with characters like these- The Hand That Rocks The Cradle comes to mind. Though there you have a female protaganist but her motive is revenge and she ultimately fails- hey it was 90s Hollywood. Unless it was a dark comedy ala Tarantino, that antagonist aint winning.

Fury Road is in my top 10 favourites of all time so I'm super curious to see how they do with a prequel but I'm not so convinced by Thor and his fake nose in the trailer though... In terms of 'woke Disney' I'd definitely give Baggage Claim's video a watch (link in description) as most of her film essays tend to explain a lot of contemporary trends really well and with plenty of good research.

Thank you for watching! That's a good question. There's certainly been a lack of book series in the last decade that have rose to the fame of LOTR, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Twilight, even The Chronicles of Narnia, though those films left much to be desired. I understand why they keep adding or renewing these already existing IPs as there doesn't seem to be hype about anything actually new. The only one I can think of as fairly recent is The Witcher so I suspect you're correct about more video game adaptations coming up, potentially those with books behind them.

From someone who hasn't read the books, I felt Dune part 2 to be a little lacking in story than the first movie given its runtime. I also didn't find Austin Butler's character particularly interesting, he seemed like a just another psycho-brat villain in a list of other cliched ones despite good performance. But what a spectacle this movie was, especially in IMAX. I love how heavy the bass was, possibly the heaviest I've felt of any movie in any cinema, and epic visuals and music. Still, this one's ending's a setup I hope for something even more amazing in the third movie.

I admit I was in awe of Austin Butler with Elvis in mind and how he moulded into a new form for this but I absolutely understand the "just another psycho-brat villain" view, which is a great way of describing the character, and he certainly feels pretty throwaway considering how he ends up... Yes, the spectacle alone is worth experiencing, especially in IMAX where I was so pleased to see everything in focus and hear all the brilliant sound design and score, without having my ears hurt *cough* *cough* Nolan 👀 *cough*

I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts about this! I was surprised by how much I liked the film, even though I haven't seen the first one

Glad to hear it! I would be curious to know how the first one feels after you've already seen the second. An extended flashback? Essentially the prequel? 🤔

Great movie. Near flawless. Zendaya is my only complaint. With such great actresses like Rampling, Pugh, Ferguson and Seydoux…I found Zendaya’s performance very lacking.

You're right about her competition, a very intimidating crowd haha. I enjoyed her performance more than I expected as I thought it provided a nice contrast to everyone else being so sci-fi serious, if that makes sense.

As a life long Dune fan, I loved this. I loved the first one. I loved the mini series, I loved the 1984 film (well the dressing not the rewritten material). But anything Villeneuve touches TBH turns to gold. This is a crowning acheivement so far in his career.

I absolutely agree! Can't wait to see what he does in the rest of his career. Very exciting.

I first thought that Spiderverse’s Jess was an original comic character, and then I found out she was originally white. I thought this race swap would be ironic considering how many good original diverse characters were already present, meaning there wouldn’t be much need to add a race swapped character. Then I found some more back ground info on Spiderverse Jess, and I discovered that she was a merging of two characters. Personally, I think this trope is quite interesting since it explores the theme that singular characters in the Spiderverse can create entirely new ones just because their lives intertwine. I hope they explore this more in the next Spiderverse film, or at least a spin off. That could be quite cool.

Exactly! I went through the same process and found the merging of characters quite a curious decision.

This might be the worst review i've seen in a while. The reasons you give for not liking this movie are shallow and it seems to me you are completely blinded by the fact it is about 4 white men. To say it is a missed opportunity to give this movie a oscar cause it's from a country with a large movie industry and it's made by a well known director is so strange to me. An oscar should be won by the best movie in their category, not by the movie that needs it the most. Maybe find an other hobby with opinions like these.

If you have the stamina then it will look incredible on the big screen. If you need to break it apart then at home is also great :)
