Wow it looks great, well done.
Thank you very much! 🤎
Wow! love your take on that base! And that veneer!!
Thank you so very much! 🤎
Really nice-Well Done!
Thank you very much! 🤎
They are BOTH gorgeous1
Thank you and I agree! 🤎🖤
Well done! It is lovely.
Thank you so much! 😊
80 grit on veneer...the methods you employ with saws...hopefully beginners aren't emulating your methods and practices.
Veneer comes in various thicknesses, so it’s important for anyone sanding it to use their own discretion. In my video, I started with 120 grit and then decided, based on my own judgment, to go down to 80 grit. As you can see from the final results, no veneer was harmed, damaged, or blown through. Regarding your comment about saws, it should go without saying that safety and discretion are key when using any tool. That’s exactly why I demonstrated what not to do in a panic situation and emphasized the importance of stepping back to assess for a safe and effective solution. I hope you had the chance to watch the video in its entirety before commenting. It pretty much covers these points.
@thecolibri... I did watch the entire video, and I should have stated the the end result was impressive. You are correct about discretion in method and choosing sanding grits. I just don't choose 80 grit on veneer. I tend to work on older pieces with a eye for refinishing, or refreshing. I do a lot of hand sanding. I learned from my grandfather. As to the saws...they're your fingers, Darla n'! In truth, I carry a healthy respect/fear of saws, lol. You, on the other hand, are fearless! Forgive me if my comment was reactionary and lacked grace. I have been known to speak before thinking. Cheers and Happy Holidays!
@@lisaharrod8386 No worries, hope you have a great holiday season as well! 🎉
Yours is much better
Haha, thank you! 🤎
I just discovered your channel. Your wood bases are stunning.
Thank you so much and I’m happy you’re here! 🖤
I love the wood grain, which means I like yours better. That base is a work of art, which should up the price. I do really like the drawer on the other piece though. Excellent work all around. Live your channel!
Haha, I'm glad you like it! I'm obsessed with the base as well. 🥰 I agree, the drawer feature on his cabinet was a really nice touch!
WOW... I love your organization skills. It gave me inspiration. Both turned out great. That base of yours...it's all about that base! 😍 Subscribed!
I'm so glad you're here! 🤩 Now lets see if I'm able to maintain keeping that container of wood organize 😆
I did not expect that wood grain! Talk about lottery win! Amazing work :)
Oh gosh, neither did I! I was sssooo pleasantly surprised!!! Thank you so much! 😊
This is absolutely freaking amazing!!!
Thank you so much Andrea! 🤎
You amaze me. You must have been a whiz kid in geometry class.
Awe, thanks! It was actually my favorite out of all the "math" classes 😂
QUEEN!!!! Edit to add: you are such an inspiration and the reason I asked for a router for Christmas 💕
Awe, you're too sweet! Thank you 😊 Oh yes, I hope you get exactly what you asked! You will love it!
Great work !
Thank you, I’m glad you liked it!
Great job.
Thank you so much! 🥰
Kai, amazing results!! You are the master base creator. Those brass accents though 🤌 Well Done!
Thank you so much Lisa 😀 I try to challenge myself each time I create a new base build! I'm not sure how I will top this one 😆
@@thecolibridesign It's gonna be hard!
That was the most amazing transformation of a piece I have seen in a long time. Absolutely wonderful. I would never have believed the finished product and the original black cabinet were the same piece. Never! You've gotten yourself a new subscriber...I can't wait to check out your other videos.😊😊
Awe, thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! 🥰 Welcome to the Colibrí family 🤎
You hit the jackpot with that pretty wood hiding underneath that black paint!! And I’m so jealous of how organized your scrap wood is!! I loved watching your bandsaw work. That’s the one tool I have yet to start using but it looks extremely useful. Curious what kind of bandsaw you have and if you like it? The cabinet is stunning, truly a one of a kind piece!
Thank you so much! We just moved into this space, so we’ll see how long it stays organized 😆. A bandsaw is such a game-changer, you won’t regret getting one! I have the WEN bandsaw, which is a great entry-level option if you’re looking for something more affordable. I usually start with budget-friendly tools to see how much I’ll actually use them, and then upgrade to something higher-end once the first one wears out. I’ve had this one for about a year and am still using the original blade it came with. The only issue I’ve run into was the adhesive on the rubber piece between the wheel and the blade giving out, but it was an easy fix with some new adhesive. Since then, it’s been working perfectly!
It is so satisfying to watch you create those bases. They really are incredible!! The walnut veneer is so gorgeous, too. I’m so glad it wasn’t damaged when you stripped it. Amazing job. You have my vote!🙌❤️
Thank you so much! That means a lot! 🥰🤎 I was surprised that it didn’t had major damage under that paint!
❤
Wow!! You are so amazing!! This turned out soooo good!
Thank you Ashley! I'm so happy with how it turned out!
You won the grand prize in cabinet door scratch-off lottery. Those were amazing! Nice work
Haha thank you! 😆 I'm so glad you loved the doors! They were truly a lucky find!
Fantastic job with your interpretation of the very expensive inspiration piece. Your skill set differently showed in the out come of the base. Excellent restoration and modernizing this bar cabinet💖💖💖💖
Thank you so much! I'm glad you love the base! 🥰🖤
OH MY GOSH!!! I can't believe you made that base from scratch!!! Guuurrlll, you got skills! :) They are both spectacular in their own way, but I just love how unique and eye-catching yours is!
Thank you so much Brenda! That means a lot 🤎
I only flip a handful of pieces a year bc I have another full time job. Would you say a kreg or festool track saw would be worth it? Most pieces I remove the base but I either eye ball the cut after using my circ saw or try to clamp on a straight edge.
Hmm, well I have a Kreg plunge track saw and we've been enjoying it. It's more pocket friendly as well vs. the Festool. (yet the Festool may be better, I'm not sure) If you only plan to us it a few times out of the year then I think you would be please with the Kreg plunge track saw 👍
WoodPrix is full of awesome tips. Very helpful to me.
Using the round over bit on the router makes this look so good. I'm waiting for a more mid century looking piece to pull that out.
Thank you so much! I hope you find the right one to refinish soon!
I made it by myself. I used WoodPrix woodworking plans for that.
Wowwww girrrrl !!!
☺️🖤
I hate pretty much every step you took here

@@mybabyischubby 😂👏
It looks very nice, now you just have to look for a buyer. I know someone who tried to flip old furniture but failed because things don't always sell.
Thank you so much! This was actually a commission piece for one of my clients. It now lives in her spa!
Love it! A ton of tall furniture is recommended to be bolted down. The comment about being top heavy shows some people aren't aware most tall furniture can be tipped easily and is always a risk. Anywho.... absolutely beautiful work, keep it up!
You're totally right! Some people are unaware and safety always comes first! I always make sure my client's are aware, even if I don't mention it on the internet. Thank you for your kind words! 💛
Looks like you’re mixing two different design styles that don’t really go together. The bottom doesn’t match the top at all. Why did you decide to make the base wider than the top and extend the legs 3/4’s of the way up into the base of the top unit? I think it would have looked better if you made the two pieces the same width and mounted them together through the bottom along the front and back edges. That would have improved the appear and saved on materials.
Thanks for the feedback! My client and I were inspired by another creator’s work, tagged in the original comment, which is why we went with this design. I also used threaded inserts on the sides, so if she ever needs to separate the two pieces, she can do it easily with just a flathead. I always appreciate hearing different ideas, it’s fun to see how everyone would approach a piece differently!
@ well here are two more observations and recommendations. I may be wrong but it appears you used Red Oak for the lower piece. Oak tends to have a pretty course texture to it with a very prominent grain when finished. I think Birch would have been a better match. Also adding facia across the front along the bottom shelf would provide additional support and improve look.
Finished product looks a lot like a midget lol. Seems like most people simply mount that top portion directly to the wall and (in this case there isnt one but...) use the bottom portion for a coffee station or something of that nature.
Haha, I can totally see what you mean, it does have a fun, compact look to it! My client is using it in her spa to display skincare, so it works perfectly for her. But the coffee set up would of been cool! Oh yeah, I did recommend mounting it in its permanent spot and sent her a link to some mounts to help with that!
That thing is so top heavy. It's a liability. If I bought it from you and it fell and caused damage or injury I would sue you.
Lol, good thing I told my client to bolt this into the wall, right? But hey, thanks so much for your concern!
I’ll be the first to admit, this job can be physically exhausting, but I’m completely addicted to the transformation that unfolds with every step. Watching a piece come to life never gets old! This hutch was no exception. I had a specific vision for it, inspired by @the_curated_attic This was actually my first time building a base like this, and honestly, most of the time was spent figuring out how to do it 😂 But now that it’s done, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the final result!
Wow, love it. Beautiful renewal of that piece.
Thank you so much! 🥰💙
I'm so sure that you can make it too guys. Just look for WoodPrix.
Beautiful
Thank you! 💙
👏👏👏
Liked & subscribed. Unbelievable, your design was on point!
Thank you so much! Happy that you are here! 🖤
Beautiful redo. Perfect new hardware. Love it.
Thank you so much! 💙
You are a master at making the bases. I am so intimidated. I am left handed, and I get really confused because everything is backwards.
Thank you so much! That means a lot to me! 😊 But I totally get where you’re coming from as a fellow lefty. It can definitely feel like the world isn’t set up for us sometimes, but once you get the hang of it, it gets so much easier. Don’t be intimidated. With a bit of practice, you’ll find your own rhythm with it. I know you’ve got this!
Great idea with the Bondo. I never thought about keeping separate little piles and only mixing what I need.
Thank you! It just randomly came to mind one day 😂
Love the hook idea. Thank you
Isn’t it so convenient? 😆 it saves so much time!
Very good job! 🎉
Thank you! ☺️
Yours turned out better than the inspo!! Great job.
Awe, thank you! ☺️🖤
