I visited my cousins in The Bronx recently and we went to City Island. It was very nice. I love my cousins!

Even better at night. It is now 2024, and I don't know if they're still doing it.

Fond memories of Beach 6! It was a long time ago and we didn't appreciate the place. It was difficult to get to and the busses were always full and passed us by!

I left a party in Parkchester at about 2:00 a.m, on a cold, snowy evening, assured by my hosts that the subway was a 5-minute walk away and easy to get to. After a half hour of increasingly desperate walking along the complex's pitch black streets, I finally bumped into somebody who nudged me in the right direction; if not I would probably still be wandering around trying to find Metropolitan Avenue.

In the old days, the two biggest department stores on 149th and 3rd Avenue were Alexander’s and Hearns.

Of course this was years ago, but when I used to go to City Island before I could drive I took the BX12 bus, immortalized in "A Bronx Tale" to City Island. WHERE do all these other numbered lines terminate after City Island?

When it was built by Irish immigrants, it was surrounded by all grassland and considered out in the boondocks. No one knew it would be in the center of the city at that time. Thank you for the outside tour.

Wow. My old neighborhood has changed. I used to live at 2175 Lacombe Ave. I moved in Dec. 2005 to Florida. I miss it though. Had a lot of fun memories

In Nov 1959, moved from the lower east side Alfred E. Smith projects to the newly open Castle Hill Projects. My sister and I were the first Black American children to attend PS 138. We lived at 2120 Randall Ave. apt 12F. Most of the surrounding land was open with single family dwellings. The only crossover was when Castle Hill Ave went over the Cross Bronx Expressway, there was no overpass on the Brunker Blvd. Pass the projects was the Castle Hill Beach Club near the end of the projects on the right. Folks back then the whole Castle Hill area was all white. So you can guess how things were then. One of the first black families we met were the Young family. I grew up with their son both of us 11 years old, Wilbur Young who played professional football for San Deigo, Kansas City and Washington. I went in the service and made a career in it.

The house outside is now in shambles. Most of the floor boards ripped up and mannequins gone. A shell of its former self. No more lights and crowds just an eye sore of a house
