Back to Basics - Alcohol Ink on Canvas
มุมมอง 44K6 ปีที่แล้ว
I have a new website: www.gerrymorgan.com I cover more than alcohol ink on this site. Take a peek! Let me know what you think! A very quick video to demonstrate to you and to me the use of AI on canvas. I used a Michaels preprep'd canvas for this demo. The AI flowed very nicely over the gesso canvas. This was my first experiment with a stretched canvas, and I really enjoyed it. Of course flower...

    Thank you so much Gerry, that was wonderful - I didnt realise you could use inks like that on canvas. Has it just been primed with gesso? I am a newbie, trying to get a lot of info before going wild with it. Is it hard to manage on canvas, you make it look so easy. Loved the tutirial - thank you so much🧚🏼‍♀️💕

    I just found your video with the leaf in bossing and I loved it! I have a question… Can you just leave the foil on the tile and if you do is there another way to seal it without pouring resin on it?

  • @sweetangelplus

    Great job. What did you use to finished/seal it? It is said that alcohol ink can lose its colour (I believe because of the low boiling point of 78°C and volatility). Some persons use a layer of resin to cover it after it dries.

    • @221b-Maker-Street
      @221b-Maker-Street ปีที่แล้ว

      Alcohol inks are generally not lightfast because they're dye-based not pigment-based - I don't think the boiling point has anything to do with it! UV sealers, resins, and varnishes could help prolong the colour life of your ink for very brief temporary outdoor situations - such as wearing jewellery outdoors, but any piece of artwork in direct sunlight for more than a couple of weeks will degrade noticeably, and quickly I'm afraid. For that reason alone, you have to be very careful about selling alcohol artwork, if you don't want disgruntled customers on your hands.

    This is really interesting!!!! Do you resin any of your pieces? I put a 4” tile inside a wooden lid box and resined it and it turned out very pretty. I also lined the bottom of the box with red felt that matched the colors of the tile.....enjoy watching you create your art!

    So gesso is the base? Can I prime canvas with something else??

    • @gerrymorgan826
      @gerrymorgan826 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gesso is what the canvas id prepared with before purchase. You can also add another coat of gesso to the canvas if you want to ensure a good surface. I have only used gesso to prime with. It comes in black as well as the common white. Hope this helps.
