Is The VK-1 The Future of AR-15 Rifles?
| *Description* |
We take Preston and Francis to the range to try out and review the VKTR Industries VK-1 piston driven AR15. A rifle that won the Golden Trigger award in 2023 for "The Most Innovative Long Gun". Could this be the best AR15?
We go over some of the patented features, do some shooting and give our finale thoughts on it.
Our goal for making this video was to determine for ourselves, if we can call this one of the most innovative rifles. And after two days of shooting, a bunch of mag changes and some setup alterations, we come to a conclusive answer.
If you enjoyed the video or learned something new, leave a like, subscribe and let us know in the comments! It helps show my bosses that these videos are worth continuing!
*CORRECTION:* Preston misspoke when referring to the gasblock. It is not an adjustable gas block, but a self regulating gas block.

Today we're looking at the Military Armament Corporation MAC 9DS. While the features are pretty standard when it comes to 2011's, what makes this double stack 9mm 1911 stand out is the affordability. We briefly go over to how we got to the double stack 1911 and their purpose, the included feature set, shoot it a bit and finally discuss our thoughts and why we like this pistol. Tombstone tactical has the 13.7 FDE for 1800. It’s the top of the line one. I almost bought it, but thought it was a little risky with it being so new. I got a Super Duty instead. Plenty of reputation.

    The enhanced buffer pin is a $15 part. The ambi lower is only a bolt release. The larger rear end of the bcg is neither new nor uncommon. All im saying is think twice before buying something like this.

  • @T20-c8f
    @T20-c8f 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Sounds pretty awesome! Love that altered Cam path is starting to get the attention it rightfully deserves. I will always side with stoner and Karl Lewis on the DI vs piston debate. I think DI is superior in every way except when I need to clean it lol. It seems they took their inspiration from the LMT Enhanced BCG and Bolt. Lewis designed a beast of a BCG and bolt in the early 00’s. Arguably the most expensive setup and hardest to find on the market, but also the best addition you can have for the carbine length gas system so you can reap the benefits of the carbine length gas system. Because it is superior on 16” and less rifles. At least for reliability sakes.

    • @SUPERIOROUTFITTERSTX

      Griffin and ADM primarily do DI guns. Neither include a low profile single piece op rod piston system and the rest of what makes the VK-1 interesting. With the exception of the buffer retainer, If im remembering correctly. They are not the same.

  • @boygonewhoopdataZZ
    @boygonewhoopdataZZ 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

    The dumping of the gas happens at the gas block not the bcg. I have the DI variant, it's like a pof roller cam pin but thats about it other than increased dwell time for ejection.

    • @charleseric75
      @charleseric75 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Sir gas does release at the gas block, but the dwell change at the carrier reduces chamber pressure resulting in a smoother operation overall.

  • @pasqualinoiannelli4275

    No on so many levels. First of all, Ruger is overpriced because of the name. I have more respect for and can get more use out of the Remington 700 or the Savage 110 series. Second, a 223 is way too small of caliber to serve as an all purpose rifle. 300 Blackout or 7.62x39, MAYBE. IDEALLY, 308. Common enough caliber, affordable enough to buy OR reload, AND hits hard enough to put real sized food on the table. Last for now, a Strike Eagle for you ONLY rifle? Spend a buck. Stop buying Chinese crap and get a Viper, Razor, or even a Primary Arms GLx 1-10. Buy once, cry once. Do better.

    • @SUPERIOROUTFITTERSTX
      @SUPERIOROUTFITTERSTX 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Finally, someone mentions the maneuverability of the pistol vs shotgun. You have more credibility than 99% of the tacticool experts pushing shotguns for home defense. Fmr Marine, my go to for home defense is a glock with extended mag and red dot. Shotguns are for outside in the dark. Dragons breath/buckshot mix.

    We live in a great time to be a gun owner. You can buy an off the shelf sub-6 pound semi-auto rifle chambered in .308 Winchester or 6.5 Creedmoor that will reliably function and shoot right around 1 MOA. Also don’t forget about the 6.5 Grendel and 6mm ARC that can drop the size and weight even further. I’m sorry but your “one rifle” is underpowered, slow to operate, heavy, and unreliable in comparison (yes, please try to run any push feed action quickly and you’ll see what I mean about the reliability). It’s a romantic idea to have a 5.56 bolt action slung over your shoulder and feel well equipped for most eventualities but it’s just that…romance. Reality will kick you in the teeth if you have to shoot a whitetail or a hog past 200 yards or God forbid fight with that thing inside a structure. With that said Ruger did make some great improvement in their Gen 2 American Rifle. It’s an amazing value for a push feed action bolt gun and it’s quite attractive a well. I’m also a fan of the Vortex Strike Eagle for its value in an LPVO. Is very hard to beat in is price category. Vortex really knows what they are doing with this optic. You honor Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper with your bolt action but don’t forget his words about the 5.56x45mm. They still hold true. He was an innovator in his time. Do you think if he were alive that he would choose a bolt action rifle over all the other available choices?

    I purchased the Mac 9 five weeks ago. At 2650 rounds through it, it is performing excellent. Not one failure or hiccup. The barrel to frame lock up is done perfectly. Both mags work flawlessly too. Last week I put a 11 pound recoil spring in it and a different sear. It didn’t need these, I just wanted it to be a certain way. I was initially impressed with this pistol after I completely disassembled it and looked at the parts. This Mac 9 is assembled really great. I’m very very pleased with the Mac 9. Hey, maybe I got one that was done right, maybe I got lucky, I don’t know. Thanks!!

    My man great commentary in video! I first shot a 1911 in the 1970's it was my uncles war pistol and he slept with it under his pillow at night and I was scared to go in his room to wake him up. At the time I was 8 or nine years old I spent summers with him at my grandmother's house in N.C. After she passed. He took care of the property each summer and my parents took me because I wanted to be with him. That's when I fell in love with a 1911, been in love ever since!!! Now I like the 2011's/DS pistols because after all it's a 1911 platform evolution..! 😎
