Scenic highway from Hubli to Coorg | Road trip | 445 km | Jeep life |
After a comfortable stay at Fortune Park, we commenced our drive to Coorg in the morning at 10 am

Since the hotel was just off the Hubli Dharwad bypass, we could quickly get back onto the highway and weave our way through the narrow two lane bypass road.
The left turn to Karwar is also around the same area. Karwar is a beautiful town on the Konkan coast and a must visit for travelers wanting some peace on a beach. Do watch our vlog on the road trip to Karwar and our stay at Devbagh Beach resort there.

The highway from Bellary also joined the Bangalore highway a little ahead, and we were well on our way to Davanagere, from where we would take the turn to Chikmagalur and Coorg.
Gradually, as we neared Davanagere, we moved Into betel nut country with a lot of palms adorning the scenery all around. We took the left from the highway and then immediately took a right under the flyover to move onto SH76 that connects Haveri with Chikmagalur.
Enroute, we passed Musafirkhana and Honda at Santhebennur.
We continued on SH76 moving onwards to Chanagiri, Shivamogga and then Birur. As we neared Birur, we crossed the junction that separates the route to Chikmagalur and Shivamogga.
Google helped us well on this route as it kept moving us between the SH76, NH69 and NH173 (NH69 connects Honnavar on the Karnataka coast with Renigunta in Andhra. NH173 on the other hand connectd Mudigere to Chitradurga).
We got onto the Somwarpet road which was the most scenic part of our drive. This whole stretch on Sh 27 (Byndoor Virajpet) highway is beautiful. And we could quickly take a quick left turn from the SH onto the path that led to the Coorg Marriott which was to be our abode for the next few days.
