Chasing a Porsche GT3 in my BMW Z3 at Oregon Raceway Park 6/16/2024
I know I ended up with faster lap times later in the day, but this session felt really good. Don't look at my first few warm up laps, I had to remember where the turns were and how fast I could go. I let a Porsche by because I was still acting foolish and then spent the rest of the session catching back up to him. Not bad for my little 24 year old 160hp roadster.

Spent the weekend with Hooked On Driving and the Audi Club of the Northwest at Oregon Raceway Park. I was shooting photos both mornings, so I didn't coach anyone, but I got a chance to get a couple of sessions in during the afternoon. Managed to set a Personal Best and then beat it.

We had a client in a BMW 850 at the last Hooked On Driving day that was interested in video of him on track, so I went out trying to capture chase video. I managed to stay with him decently for the session.

When my car couldn't make it out for a track day, my friend let me take his S2000. Had an absolute blast. Unfortunately there was some technical issues with the catalyst and so my fastest laps did not have video. This was probably the best lap that I have video from all of, even if I was letting some cars by.

I got a chance to do an hour session at the end of the day with Audi Club of the Pacific Northwest at The Ridge in my 2000 BMW Z3 Roadster. I set a new personal best during this session, but I was also a little more consistent with what I was doing. I was having so much fun, I was sure I was going to get a black flag.

Opening weekend of my track season started with setting a new personal best at the Ridge, with my 2000 BMW Z3 roadster. This was part of an hour session that I was able to do at the end of the day with Audi Club of the Pacific Northwest.

Nice driving, smooth and executing the basic line. As an ORP AA instructor, I see some time left on the table. Primarily by using more of the track! More often than not your apex is at the mathematical center of the turn or a late apex is really what you want. I did see a few early apex’s, and remember the T Shirt: “Friends don’t let friends early apex.” Tracking out is the term for leaving the apex and heading to the next turn or straight. Pinching off the turn means not going completely to the outside edge of the track. In general, your momentum is greater by using all the track! Carrying speed means better lap times. Is that boring oregon?I noticed you stopped at the intersection and looked both ways?? They don't do that in Oregon. Even out in the sticks.mainly in the city though.if you watch a(seasoned)rider you'll see what I'm saying is a fact but anyway, this clip is so boring I eventually started typing and missed 80% of it but probably didn't miss a thing right?😂😂😂😂😢

Does the Hooked on Driving system actually display this stuff and comment in realtime or it that added in the post lap analysis? That's a damn good lap BTW and you know what's good in life when it comes to having the top down lol.
The overlay and commentary is from the Garmin Catalyst. It does provide the commentary real time, but only displays the time delta while driving, so that it's not a distraction. After each session it does provide tips on how to improve time in the corners and also will stitch together an optimal lap (if I had driven each section to the best all together in sequence). Hooked On Driving can provide a person in the right seat to help learn.
