Drone Poem 27
27th entry of my regular practice of drone sketches using the Make Noise 0-Coast semi-modular synthesizer and the Earthquaker Devices Avalanche Run.

Patch and Performance Notes:
This drone aimed to study two things:
1. The polyphonic capabilities of the 0-Coast and how to vary it over time with subtle movements of pitch on both the main oscillator and the delay time.
2. Using the expression input of the Avalanche Run for interesting modulation.
This patch also includes a mistake! But more on that a moment.
The patch is as follows:
Midi CV Out to Lin FM (patched in during the drone to add more modulation to the end of the exercise)
Random stepped voltage split two ways:
1. to a Mystic Circuits 0ttenuator* to the Expression Control in on the Avalanche Run (set to modulate Delay time)
2. to the Decay In on the Contour** (here in lies the mistake, explained below)
Maths Voltage Out sent to Dynamics control In (for "Drone Mode")
Slope set to Cycle with Slope Out to Balance In
Contour Our to Time In on Slope (rendered useless due to the patching mistake)
Output sent to Avalanche Run
*the Avalanche Run can take voltage into the expression control input. However, it works with voltage far lower than eurorack spits out. The 0ttenuator helps bring the voltage down to useable levels for the Avalanche Run.
**Originally, I wanted the stepped random voltage to trigger the Contour which would then control the time of the Slope, thereby affecting the pitch of the oscillating slope. This would mean the stepped voltage would need to go into the GATE not the Decay control input, which was what I accidentally patched it into. The end result, which I didn't realize during the exercise, was that the Slope's pitch never altered.
This turned out to be a decent thing as, A. the main oscillators pitch would be modulated later on and B. the stepped voltage was also messing with the delay time, thereby creating pitch shifting effects in the delay. After recording this, I repatched it according to my original plan and found it actually a little too hectic. Interesting, sure, but not what I was liking here. So for this exercise, consider the Contour essentially unused.
