WHY I DON'T USE FLASHCARDS AT MEDICAL SCHOOL
มุมมอง 6928 หลายเดือนก่อน
Its is no lie that the majority of medical students study/ revise using flashcards and whilst that is a really good study method, it can often mean you feel like you are deviating from the norm when you don't fit that narrative. I stopped using flashcards in my first year at medical school and have been using alternative study methods since. Here are all the reasons why I don't use flashcards t...

Can u make a video on hull York mmi interviews? Like ur experience, how u prepared, any resources, what sort of questions they asked..etc ❤
This is so refreshing , after so many setbacks it’s funny how I’m still applying for medicine ❤❤❤❤
Aaaahgggg I can't wait to go, just 6 more years😂😂😂
Thank you very much for the video I'm currently on a gap year and got ABB (bio/chem/maths) I recently re-did my UCAT and achieved 2690 Band 2. I'm not sure whether to apply for a foundation year or standard medicine and if I can even apply to both at once. Any help will be appreciated x
So sorry for the late reply, only just seen this so hope it’s not too late! You can defiantly apply for foundation year at one uni and then standard medicine at the same uni, but not too sure about applying for the same at one uni! Good luck with your application!
Hi if you don’t mind me asking what was your ucat score ?
I got into med with 2550
Right
I don't normally comment, but I just wanted to say that I resonate with a lot of things you said! My first year, in terms of exams and content went pretty much exactly the same way as yours, and had I seen this video at that time, it would have made me feel so much better about myself. I appreciate you taking the time to tell your experience. <3
So glad you found it relatable 🫶🏻 everyone has different struggles at different times and it’s important to share that. Hope you’re enjoying your degree <3
Hi meals, I hope you're doing alright, haven't seen you upload in a while. Hope you're excelling in your degree and in yourself! 🏆🎓♥️❤
Hi, yes doing great thank you! Will be back very soon with some updates! Hope your well 🫶🏻
What's your contact. How to contact you for questions
did you do anything to increase your chances in your gap year
During my gap year I worked in a care home for most of it, travelled and just really focused on trying to improve my UCAT score. Focusing on your weaknesses in your application is a good place to start but remember to enjoy it too!
What gsce scores do you have to have to get it? I’m in secondary and want to work as a paediatrician and just want to prepare
Hey! Most medical schools focus more on A levels than GCSEs, but obviously need them to get your A levels. It’s also very dependent on what medical school you want to go to and some weight them heavily and some don’t look at them at all. There’s some really good medical school specific summery websites online!
Thank you!!!!! This was very useful for me ❤
Girl, I'm going into Graduate Entry, and the mocks are honestly humbling on medify 😭
THIS!! Good luck I’m sure you’ll smash it
Hello
Can i contact you ?
Looks like you are from UK and also study there, right?
I do :)
What were your GCSEs like? I was wondering because I’m taking them this year. Also did you only do your work experience in a care home ?
Good luck with your GCSEs! I got As and A*s in all my GCSEs, but A levels are definitely most important when applying so don’t stress too much. And I didn’t work experience in a care home and I also did a couple of days clinic in primary care. Medical work experience is not essential as long as you can talk about what skills you’ve gained and how they’d make you a good doctor etc ..
Thanks doctor for this vedio i really needed this this is my last year in high school
💖
thanks love. pray for me that i get into the university i want💌
Sending all the best of luck🤞 what have you applied for?
Did you cry !
I’m not sure which but you’re referring to but quite possibly haha
Thank uh❤
No problem 😊
Have my exams in 6 days and I'm struggling to focus so much, this really helped 😭❣️
Good luck, I’m sure you’ll smash it :)
yooo great video! you just gained a sub
Thanks you!
Hello i am senior high school student who studied daily and researched alot and now i am got only 60 days and then i will have my final exam what is the best advice would you give me about revision ? Thanks future doctor for the vedio i hope you post more and more
Good luck with your exam! Some things that work for me: changing locations to stay engaged, taking regular breaks and listening to your body when you need rest, breaking study time into tasks rather than time. Hope that helps, I’ll be posting more study videos over the next few weeks :)
@@MeelsBuckley but what about the day before the exam can it work if i just blurt that day I wait to see that in your vedio and thanks 🙏👍
Blurting is a really good revision technique, I like to use that a lot. I also always make a list of things I want to go over the day before an exam (the things that don’t stick in my memory very well)
@@MeelsBuckleyi know what you mean like a short list thanks so much
ahh i love how real you are thank youu💞
Thanks for watching 🫶🏻
Yeah flash cards have helped me waste a whole bunch of time.
Hope you’ve found what works for you :)
love this!
Love you girly xx
Hi it's me again. I have been repeating medical school classes again. It's been affecting my family's finance. I don't want to disappoint them. Please can you be of financial help to me? Can't pay school fees or rent because I'm repeating. I don't want to stop schooling. I school in a developing country. 🙏
I hope you are well. I recently came across your TH-cam channel and have been following it closely. Your content, your video quality is all good. But your channel doesn't have enough views. What I understand from observation is that SEO are not done in your video. do you know what is SEO and How it`s work? can i explain?
Thank you for your advice :)
@@MeelsBuckley welcome 🤗 can we talk about this?
I love your lecture method. I find it’s harder to do active recall with in person lectures cause obviously you don’t have time to stop so having them recorded is a god send. We really don’t have time to be making full notes from scratch you’re so right 😭
Thank you :) Live lectures are deffo a challenge haha.
Hi can I have your email or social media platform for contact? For a business Purpose.
when you say 'dinner time' I think you mean the middle of the day but for Australians and Americans that means early evening
We say dinner time for mid day or evening meal interchangeably depending on what part of the country you are from, it’s very confusing haha
which one did you mean in the video?@@MeelsBuckley
when you say 'dinner time' I think you mean the middle of the day but for Australians and Americans that means early evening
could you do a drive with me please x

I’m gonna firm HYMS! What campus are you at?
Congratulations on your offer! I’m York based for this year!
@@MeelsBuckley thanks! Also do you think it matters where you go for med, I had a few people say to me after I got an offer that HYMS is a bit dead and not very reputable but I really like the course….😢
Honestly it doesn’t matter where you go at all! Everyone ends up being doctors at the end of it. It’s definitely a lot quieter than other big city universities in York but I really enjoy it at HYMS and you’ve got big duties close by like Leeds if that’s what you enjoy. But it I really enjoy it here if that helps!
hii ! what accomodation do you rec for choosing at YORK as a med student ? @@MeelsBuckley
@@sohinimitra6109 hi, it depends what you want. The accoms on East campus are much nicer/ better value for money but about 20 min walk away, west campus is right near the med school but not as modern/ nice looking. So if you don’t mind a 20 min walk every day then I’d go on one in east campus, Anne lister is very nice and cheaper than others :)
I felt the same way, I tried flashcards at the start of med-school, but I simply started to study a lot more effectively when I ditched them, studying while engaged is fundamental, and flash cards are just way to boring
Efficiency is key 🔑
Exactly! Don't worry, I could never understand the Anki hype either. I did just fine and graduated med school among the top 10 students.
That’s amazing! Congratulations on your success!
do HYMS give scrubs or do we need placement clothes for HYMS?
You get scrubs from 3rd year, you’ll need placement clothes for first 2 years :)
Brilliant video!! Really enjoyed everything about it :) If possible in the future, could you do a video revving up your car? So we can hear how it sounds! 🎉🎉

Super super helpfulllll. I'm going to master these study methods now. This woman has the most beautiful and kind soul both in front of the camera and behind the camera.
Love you so much ❤️❤️
Hi, so how do you learn? What's the learning style that worked for you? x
So I started first year making lecture notes AKA transcripts, complete waste of time you’ve got to learn to use your time wisely. Learning is always evolving but what is currently working for me is watching a lecture, focusing on UNDERSTANDING, then doing any extra reading to add detail, once understood I make flashcards (takes me 10 minutes by copy and paste) and then spend 10/15 min going through them. I then finish by doing 5/10 past paper questions on that topic from a question bank to see what I don’t understand. I like to add detail In layers so in a few weeks try to go through that content on a whiteboard by blurting what I know and filling in the gaps. Repeat that process ^ Everyone’s so different so it’s just about finding what works in the most time efficient way possible :)
Are you british
I am :)
@@MeelsBuckley your accent is very beautiful
