Mayanthi, which part of the world do you practice as a counsellor?
I’m based in Australia ☺️
Hello Mayanthi, Thank you sooo much for uploading these videos. I had a question, can counsellors call themselves psychologist in Australia or only those who've done their master's in clinical psychology can do so? So if I do my master's in counseling psychology, will be able to do a PsyD to practice as a counselling psychologist? Can you please help me find a clear pathway to become a counselling psychologist in Australia. Also just for the context - I've done by undergrad in social work and want to focus on counseling as my main career.
Thank you so much for answering my question
No worries! Thanks for watching ☺️
Hey are you from sri lanka ?
Yes my background is Sri Lankan ☺️
Great video thank you for your answers!
No worries! Thanks for watching ☺️
This video really made me think about my own life and how I am socially and at home! I think life is so seasonal and if you're not growing and changing over time, then I guess people would just know you as one consistent version of yourself (which I don't believe is healthy anyways). As social beings I think naturally we have so many layers to who we are and we show certain parts of ourselves to who we don't feel so close with and those who we are close with, see us for all our layers through different seasons of our lives. I've also felt imposter syndrome especially being in a majority white school and not connecting with my south asian roots, so I really appreciate this video! You're doing amazing in all your roles as a mother, a friend, a creator, a daughter and a lover! 🥰
Thank you so much for watching Desh, I appreciate your thoughts so much and completely agree with you! Each stage and season of life should bring some growth and change! 🙌🏽 you’ve explained it so well!! ❤️

A diploma of Counselling through Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors AIPC comes with registration to the ACA. I'm about to start mine today. 😊👍
How do you like it so far? I've seen a lot of good reviews about AIPC
@@dan.rickard Thanks for your comment. How can I start that coarse? Can you please help me with that?
Hi, thank you for making this video, as this is exactly where I am at. I am currently finishing my diploma in Clinical Hypnosis and Psychotherapy and want to continue to study further. Psychology was always on my target, however I do like also how counseling is structured. Is hard to get into Masters of counselling? Thanks again, great video

Hi, thank you for this video! I just got to Australia one month ago, I was a psychologist in Chile (more than 10 years), I also have the australian citizen, How do I start? thank you!!
Good morning Mayanthi . I need your help please I want to start bachelor of counseling. I want to know is counselling in high demand in Australia and what is annual salary and after finishing the degree can i also start my own practice please advise thanks .
You are such a champ for going through ALL those changes within 3 weeks and still finding pockets of happiness through it all! Love your positive outlook and watching melbourne grow on you has been so much fun to witness ❤
Any time institution you would recommend for diploma of counselling
5+1 path = 3 years Bachelors, 1 year Honors, 1 Year Graduate Diploma, 1 year internship and then the big test. Thanks for the video. I found it easy to follow. I am a diploma qualified counsellor moving towards becoming a psychologist. I think its better to be a psychologist. You can always counsel as a psychologist. Takes forever and cost a fortune though! :)
Starting my bachelors in psychological science in November. What are your fave books that have helped you throughout your journey in being a councellor?
I want to scrap book with you
Omg you are the queen of scrapbooking!!! I was so inspired by you whenever Id see your creative journals and scrapbooks!!! Thankyou so much for sharing!! So freaking nostalgic 😍
Awww I love that 🥰 definitely a throwback hey!! But it’s such a nice way to capture and reminisce on memories!! You should defs start one too!!
I m from India
Hi mam ... I have 3 year graduation degree and 2 years masters degree in psychology... Can I apply for psychologist?
Unless you mean how to "apply for psychologist" in Australia, like the topic of the video, I don't expect this is the right place to ask. Assuming you mean in India, surely that was discussed frequently as you took & completed a psychology post-graduate degree program? 😐 (and for future reference, it's generally a good idea to give the actual name of the degree...)
I appreciate you posting these vids! Found you on tiktok! Reallyy contemplating on what to study. Its so hard so these are re-assuring ♥️
Thank you so much for watching and your kind words, I’m glad these videos provide some reassurance for you ☺️
Omg this was so insightful!!!! I’ll definitely practice mindfulness at work. That’s where my monkey mind comes in 😂
I’m glad this was a little reminder to be mindful during your work day ☺️ thanks for watching!!
There is a branch of psychology which is called as counselling psychology which deals with most of duties of a clinical psychology. Basically to treat the person, you also need to do diagnosis based on dsm5 or the referral must be there.
I am doing udemy certification in counselling course so is this enough to start this profession? Like dealing with clients? Its a 44 hours credit course with assignmnts, quizes, lectures etc.. please tell mam
Thanks for watching!! I have answered your question in this video ☺️ th-cam.com/video/JIV8qZjd0hA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=wS63qhuiKG07RikV
What happened to your private practice?
Love this!!!! So informative
Thanks so much for watching Desh!! ❤️
I would love to see what's needed for someone that would like to work on the clinical setting, as a counsellor. I'm looking into the masters of counselling to start with
Hi, I'm a qualified counsellor in the UK working self employed in my own private practice & part time for an agency counselling young people from 11 years+. I am trained & qualified to diploma level, plus a one year post qualification certificate in working with young people. Here in the UK, we can work as qualifications counsellors once we've achieved the diploma so I have no higher qualifications such as bachelors / masters etc. What are my chances of becoming registered & finding work in Australia with these qualifications alone?
I'm planning a career change. I've got a bachelor in another field. would you say a Diploma first then applying for Masters would be the best pathway ?
Hi, thanks so much for watching and for your comment. I will address this an upcoming video. In the meantime, feel free to check out my most recent video: th-cam.com/video/_wZ5x27ybtk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=36U41jHQqSPIkJqj

Hi, I'm a BSW graduate who's interested in counseling, so I was thinking to go ahead with Master's in counseling, but as you mentioned social workers and clinical psychologists are given more job opportunities, what would you recommend if I want to become a therapist who wants to work in clinical setting.
Hi, thanks so much for watching and commenting. I have answered this in my most recent video here: th-cam.com/video/_wZ5x27ybtk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=36U41jHQqSPIkJqj ☺️
Hi, with Social Work, can you have your own business or always have to work for a company?
Hi I just completed my diploma in counselling and as far as I know I can get register with as ACA level one .. then do supervised work to get more levels . So hopefully I can get registered..
I want to be a school counselling but I have already study general medicine in another country. Should I applied for Bach of Psy for 4 years then go for counselling. Do they accept me as a counsellor if I have a bach of Psy (not registered)
Hi, thanks so much for watching. I have answered your question in my most recent video: th-cam.com/video/gMCYkz_2WnQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hM6ynpilgrBR7fB2 ☺️
I've done Masters of social work 7 years experience but want to become psychologist but 6 yrs of study is putting me off as oppose to 2 yrs master of counselling. Very confusing any suggestions please.
Hi, thanks so much for watching. I have answered your question in my most recent video: th-cam.com/video/gMCYkz_2WnQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hM6ynpilgrBR7fB2 ☺️
Great point!
Thankyou so much! ❤
Thanks for watching!
Be positive. Without focusing subscribers count concentrate on content then you'll get the pay
But psychologists and counselors do different things, if one has interest in only counseling why would one choose masters in psychology?
Hi, check out this video, it may answer your question ☺️ th-cam.com/video/LJtgoJe5sdQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=6gUhi6UlCtPfS3Pq
Thankyou!
Hello, thank you for this helpful video! I am currently looking into doing a masters of counselling but I only have a bachelors of early childhood education. Therefore, I do not have any prior knowledge in this field but was wondering if it would be a good idea to still give masters of counselling a go because I have a undergraduate degree already? :)
Hi, thanks for your comment!! Having an education background is a great start…I’d definitely recommend looking into studying counselling even though your background is in a different field. You will just have to check with the Uni to see if they have any prerequisites 😊
怎麼那麼晚還沒回來
I wish i had these videos when i was in uni!!!! Keep it up girl🎉🎉🎉
Same here!! Thanks so much for watching Desh ❤️
Thank you for these videos! I was overthinking about this question the whole day today and your video magically appeared ! <3😍
Thank you so much for watching!! I hope it was helpful for you ☺️✨
Hi I have done my Masters in Social work but now want to go into Master of Rehab, counselling and Mental Health online and do a private practise eventually. You mentioned that counselling as such is not reputable and recognised and in terms of employment opportunities it is difficult. So I'm bit confused whether to study counselling or Grad. Diploma in Psychology and then Advance and then Masters but its too long . Any insight and thought please. Many Thanks
