Best way to explain this: if you’re in a car and the car has drugs, if the cops find the drugs it’s actually very difficult to pin the drugs on anyone, unless people talk! I know it sounds crazy but it’s true. If people just shut up so many crimes will just disappear.

Cops make out they are your friend. While stitching you up. This guy makes out he's your friend when taking large sums of money from you. Everyone is conning you.

If the police have already committed on a costing sheet, the price of an interview. They are going to want a result. On the other hand. This guy says he's going to help you. But at what cost? If haven't been in trouble before. It's probably cheaper and easier to not hire him or his firm. Save your money. Especially if it's something small. Simply say no comment and ask for a solicitor if you forced to go to court. At each step of the way you'll be offered a deal. Many plead guilty when they didn't need to. Just to make things go away. As I say, that's cheaper than an expensive solicitor.

There was no evidence for them saying what I was supposed to have done, I was never verbally arrested, after I told the police in the interview, what went on, after the interview they shook my hand. Its the crown prosecution service who listen to the tape, that decide. One witness never turned up, for the trial, they wanted her to just stay and carry on working, I got a charge for that part, let me point out it was a magistrates court. It was verbal assault, but by their word only.

never ever attend a voluntary interview the police don't call them confession sessions for nothing

If no crime has been committed, then I do not consent, and there is nothing they can do. Also, there is nothing in the oath of a Constable to HM about interviewing innocent people. I know from experience if you deny them consent, they're done.

I have only very recently fallen for their artifice regarding a gun licence renewal, I have been shooting for over 20 years. The end result from so called 'casual' chats at my door is a refusal to renew my licence notice with the reasons given as far removed from the truth as one could imagine. The whole experience has opened my eyes to the police and their methods from constables to chief inspectors. My trust and respect has been broken.

I take 2 points from this: 1. Police are dodgy 2. This guy does long advertorials

Do not speak other than to give your name and date of birth. Then keep your mouth shut. Ask for a solicitor, and then do not answer any questions they ask you. Remember the caution: You are not obliged to say anything. Then stay silent until your brief turns up.

I wish I had have known this years ago before a phone call I received nearly ruined our lives.

I had an incident in high school that didn’t even involve police, just the VP at the time. A teacher had a calculator stolen off his desk and, immediately prior to that I had looked at it, pressed the buttons and probably even commented about it while in the line handing in some assignment or other and my actions were noted. I didn’t nick it and the pressure to just say I was guilty was enormous. I had enough sense to only say that I didn’t take it and I remained silent the entire time. Whoever took it returned it with an apology note but I wasn’t ever actually cleared. I have taken that direct experience to heart on many levels including that I cannot trust even “witnesses” to tell the truth. Chances are the snitch was the actual thief. I’m glad that the VP took the heavy approach as that made it much easier to clam up, no buddy buddy chit chat. You are innocent until proven guilty but the police have an interest in making the collar and, as long as you say nothing you cannot be incriminated without some serious work on their part. They are just trying to shortcut having to actually come up with proof by getting you to say something that can be used against you.

I used to think the police were there to get at the truth and get justice. How stupid i was. When arrested for a small trace of heroin 20 years ago, i got the duty solicitor and said nothing until he was there. I followed his advice and since i am not an addict or user just a dabbler, justice was done and i walked free after they sent me for an assessment which showed them i was not into crime. Theguy who had given me the heroin was a dealer and he got 6 months. I have never gone anywhere near him since so the event could have helped me not descend into addiction.

I found the Police to be pretty fair tbh. They arranged for a lawyer before ever asking me anything, they listened and said nothing. They spoke with my lawyer outside the room and I was free to go. But then again I was innocent and everyone could see that.

I was in a collision with a drunk pedestrian who walked out into the cycle lane without looking, I hit her, she ended up being in hospital for months. At the time I was not cautioned or arrested, just information taken. One weekend I was called by a constable requesting me to come for an interview, just a few questions at the station. Nope. They came to my house to ask if I would come in to clear up a few questions, again Nope. Then the treats happened, I simply said, arrest me if you think you can charge me with something. Rule 1, never talk to Police, Rule 2 Shut up Rule 3, always follow one and two. ~Trooper

If I have done nothing wrong, why do I need a lawyer? Lawyers are not disinterested in asking you to contact them. I have met a number of people who hate police, and none of them was an ingenu.

All I do is utter 2 different phrases. (1) "Do I have the right to remain silent? " and (2) "Sorry I don't answer questions" and they give up very soon after that.

Of course, what you have to realise is that no matter what these solicitors say, their function, isn't necessarily 'justice', it's to do whatever they can to get their 'client', no mattter how scummy and guilty, off and out of the police station as quickly as possible. Yes, any otherwise law abiding citizen who finds themselves being investigated or arrested, needs proper legal advice as they, unlike 'regular' criminals who take a trip to police cells in the back of a police car in their stride, will be totally bemused having found themselves in a situation that they don't understand. You tend to get the impression from 'information' videos like this that that police want to use devious methods to trick innocent people into incriminating themselves when being interviewed, which is nonsense as they want the person who 'did' it, not someone who didn't. Having said all that, even as a retired police officer of twenty five years service, if I found myself being 'interviewed', and even fully understanding what was going on, I wouldn't open my mouth until I had spoken to a legal advisor either. Just don't get paranoid that the police are out to get you for something you didn't do... or if you did do it, then please, 'be paranoid'.

I was charged with obstructing an authorised Dept of Aviation Security Officer by the name of Tupper. Carried a fine of £8,000 or 5 Years or both. 10 officers were deployed for a year digging to find evidence. Interview took 8 hours. Their Tape recorder was broken. Couldn’t do a video interview. I had an excellent lady solicitor who, in shorthand, wrote every question and my answer. At the end of the interview, I was asked to sign my statement. I said I would like to go through it first. The officers said that will take an entire day. I said if this is inconvenient I was faced with 5 years! The next day, we went through the statement. The officers had made 82 “Mistakes” like swooping yes for no! At a pre-trial hearing in Weston -super-Mare Court, my Barrister took Mr Tupper apart. Proved his lies. “MrTupper, you have used the authority given you to protect aviation from terrorist actions in a nasty vindictive manner to ‘get at’ an airline captain you didn’t like”! Silence. “Answer the question Mr Tupper”! The Judge then interrupted, “Captain, you are free to go, costs to central funding. The government has to pay for this cock up”. That entire security team were taken off aviation and were sent to the channel tunnel. The police want convictions. The more they get the quicker their promotion. It is not in their interest to find you innocent!

Excellent advice

The law needs changed back. The burden should be on the state to prove you are guilty rather than it effectively defaulting to guilty for not wanting to incriminate yourself. Never speak to the police should be the default. There is nothing that any citizen coud gain from speaking to the police when they have targets.
