Diagnosing a Silverado headlight failure
Thanks for the follow up , you went above and beyond on these videos, Thank you
@@timhardin7287 im actually past due for another follow up, but the battery is still doing great. Thanks for watching!
Well done, I'm trying to save two now, cleaned with baking soda, then flushed till clean, then added 12 oz.s of Epsom salt to hot water, agitate to dissolved put in batteries and charge, not been successful going to cook with welder tomorrow, they both seem to take charge and all cells bubble but on new style tester they fail on old resistance load tester at 300 amps the fail quick, been a learning experience but afraid I'm going to loose on these. your video was helpful on the welder settings. Thanks
@@timhardin7287 be careful. So....ive tried a few other batteries, with no luck. Only this 1 worked. And im not sure why. Thanks for watching!
Forgot to add one battery with a hydrometer reads 1350 plus but it still falls short on load test and it's the older of the two , 2015 and 2017
@timhardin7287 on my battery, i had it on a solar trickle charger for about a month, before i zapped it with the welder. So maybe, thats what made it work....maybe?
Glad to see you got her out and on the road,,, you way ahed of the game,,, old cars are like us, cept we can't go get parts to do our chassis,, wish we could,,, lolol,, sometimes i wish i had left the paint alone but when i look forward, I'm glad i am change'n it,, kinda torn on that subject,,, hope to finally get mine run'n agin by this summer, next step is the sound ded'nr,,, was loud before,,, i can't believe i am complain'n about that but sit'n in a metal container bein blasted with 15 million decibles gets nerv rack'n,, like sit'n in a bell,,can't think,,, lol,,,, God Bless You Brother,, stay safe,,,

Where did u find the new slide yoke what the website
@@ManuelMoreno-j3w that's straight from GM, I got it from my Chevrolet dealership. Thanks for watching!
I have question to you or anyone when replace that front u jonts and slip yoke does it matter which way go back on . I chanche my u jonts i did make marks the way it was assembled but on the installation my marks some how erased so i had no other choice to assemble back together some way?? So now my drive shaft could be out of balance???
@@jorgeluissalazar7702 yes, they should be assembled the way it came off,...but, 1)if you replaced the slip yoke, its a totally different unit, so balance shouldnt be an issue. 2) assemble it, and if its off balance, you'll know. Its likely ok. Thanks for watching!
I'm studying this as well as I can before starting, and I'm seeing numerous methods, by guys who are using all sorts of systems, and some guys are obviously more experienced in electrical systems. Also I see guys using epsom salt to replace the acid. So at this point I'm confused. But I appreciate the video. This is the simplest method, by fay
@@bertkilborne6464 i dont see how epsom salt can replace the acid. Id have to research it more. But as far as i understand, thru heat and use water evaporates, but the acid does not. The only time you'd have to replace it is it was extremely dirty, which by then you'd likely have failure or excess wear in the lead cells. But heres something interesting, this method, was a total success on this 1 battery i have. It has failed in a handfull of other batteries i tried it on. Why? Im not sure, but i do know a month before i trickle charged this batter with a solar charger. Could the gradual low charge have helped the desulfation process ?? Not sure. Thanks for watching!
@@rustedhorsepower5132 Thanks for replying I'm curious whether you've watched any of the myriad of videos on battery desulfation ? You and others like Uncle Tony's Garage, use the *hook it up to a welder* method successfully. So why over think it?
@@bertkilborne6464im not sure in what area im over thinking it, but in general, i believe i over think it, because i want to know what happened to the other...(4?) Batteries that failed to recondition, and why the 1st one worked? And id like to know how to avoid the sulfation process of any battery, whether in regular daily use, or only occasional.
@@rustedhorsepower5132 I wasn't referring to yourself over thinking it What I meant was - If It gets the job done, to just connect the battery to a DC welder, Then why are all those other videos showing that we're supposed to use epsom salt or other methods that seem to make the process more complicated ?
@@bertkilborne6464 oh, ok. But i still wonder why no other battery ive has been a success. And i did watch other videos before and some after i tried it myself. Theres even some that claim a small circuit board trickle charger type device can acheive the same results.
Got to love the old chevelles!!
Had one at 16 in 1979 sale it to me
@@patrickbarnett8780 nah, mine is mine. When im gone, ill pass it to my kids. I see nice ones for sale online. And not all at ridiculous prices. If i had the resources id grab a few more. Maybe someday. Thanks for watching!
Great job......
Thank you my friend!
I enjoy watching you work on your 69 Malibu. I like how you are very detailed in describing your repairs. I also have a 69 Malibu with the 307 and turbo hydromatic. Mine is butternut yellow with a black vinyl top. Keep the videos coming.
Im glad you enjoy watching. Sometimes i feel i go overboard with the excesdive details, its nice to hear its appreciated. Butternut yellow, kind of on the rare side for a color. Id really like to see your car, if not thru youtube, you could always find me on instagram and show me. Ive learned alot about my chevelle, and really chevelles in general. The 1st car that got me hooked on old muscle cars was my brothers 1968 chevelle malibu. It had a 307/powerglide, and it was that blue-ish green color. But by the time i was out of diapers it had been sold. I did get to ride in it again when i was 18, a few years before it was "totalled". Anyways, thanks for watching and commenting. I apologize for not responding sooner, either the notification got lost, or i just missed it.
You forgot to tell them to fill the tank up first,, that's usually when i would hav tank troubles,,, lolol,,,
Lol, yup. It felt annoying to have to clean out the fuel system, but last time it sat I had some nasty gunk build up. Either the ethanol, or someone put something in my tank. Thanks for watching brother, God bless
Good word brother! We MUST keep our heads out of the sand keep an eye out for their BS.
That's my point exactly. If we sit by, they will pass things without a 2nd thought. Thank you!

Yay! Good job! Love you!

I managed to get the 70's hood stuck once adjusting it lol
I was sweating it for a bit. I don't know how I bolted it back last time, zero adjustment and it landed fine. Thanks for watching !
Great job looking great
Not as shiny as yours, but it's roughness has grown on me.
I had my hood off my 68 Chevrolet to do a engine swap, after I saw how hard of the the paint guy had aligning the hood I made sure I indexed it on all the bolts!! It went on without a hitch!!! I must of got lucky, lol!!! Thanks my friend for sharing, glad your working on it!!!
Yeah, last time I took it off , it went back on easy, I did mark the hinge points, at the hood only. I think the hinge to the fender has necer been marked, and that is where I had the most trouble. But ...I couldn't resist removing the hinges with the hood... cause the 68/69 chevelle looks damned sexy without a hood, 😁. That...is something a 70 chevelle owner can't honestly say. 68/69s have independent header panels, they don't look incomplete without a hood. Thanks for watching!
good deal,, glad to see it come'n together,, I been out work'n on mine,, got the battery tray and wirte'n for the motor all wrap'd up,, gonna run the hed lights n such later today/tomorrow and drain some transmission fluid out and crank it up,, maybe,, it's suppose to rain next week and it may be put off a little longer,, I figure 4-5 years,, what's one more week gonna hurt,, LOL God Bless Brother
Yeah brother, little by little, as long as it's moving forward. Almost there. Thanks for watching!
Great Job... I always wondered how the factory got hoods alined so fast, I know they must have had a some type of jig......
Yeah , I never thought about it, maybe they did use a jig. Either way, I was neck deep in adjusting this one for a while, 😆 , almost felt like I should've just left it alone. But it was annoying how it wasn't a smoothe open and close anymore. Thanks for watching!
Promo'SM
It's coming along great...next we hope to hear it run.....Well done.
Little by little. I'm anxious to hear it run again also, although we hear it on every intro, 😆. Thanks for watching!
I gotta remove my mini starter and beat on a primary tube so Clarance will be back in the engine bay,, got a heat wrap to ut around it too,, tired of heat soak'n starters,,, heders cause problems but worth it,, God Bless Brother
Make sure that starter has its own heat shield, itll help. Thanks for watching, God bless you too brother!
I wish the gm starters weigh'd 5-10 pounds more,, they just aint hevy enuff,, LOL aint no sense in some'thn that small bein so dern hevy,,,
Oh man, I remember doing 6.2 diesel starters at the dealer, holy cow, super heavy and me, a "green" mechanic, didn't know how to get max leverage or lift, Lord have mercy!
I like how you can just jump inside the engine compartment, that never happens with new cars, lol!! Good to see you working on it my friend!!
Yeah, lol, I like to just dig in there. I've gotten stuck in a few late models, lol
Thanks for watching!
Your supposed to use a torque wrench?? Jk great video
😆 I realized when I pulled it apart, ...things were twice as tight as they should be, or seemed like it. Thing is, I didnt even own a torque wrench last time I was in this motor, so, I decided to not guess and torque stuff, on as much as I could. Thanks for watching!
Getting closer.. ❤
So close i can smell the funes
Fumes, lol
Glad ya got it back in,, won't be long now,,, God Bless Brother
Thank you brother! Yup, it's coming along.
Good job and I know it's hard to line all that up on your own...but you did it!!!!
Also trying not to beat up my mickey mouse chassis paint job, lol. Thanks for watching!
Keep going brother you got it all hooked up man that's awesome
Hey bro see if you can spend the crankshaft in the front or see if you could spend the flywheel in the back of the motor maybe the torque converters binding and it won't let the transmission line to the block
It was the Engine mounts, it either didnt like that i unbolted the brackets and put em back, or i unknowingly swapped the mounts at the engine left to right. Thanks for watching, i appreciate it!
Good to see you back working on it!! Love those old cars, never get sick of seeing them!! Hope all is well!!!!!!!
Thank you my friend. Cars been down for too long, hoping to fix that soon, thanks for watching!
coming together nicely
Thank you! Yep, im having a laugh tracing my old repairs, like that horn bracket for the combo brake valve. Thanks for watching!
hey man,, I could use that horn bracket,, for my brake porportion'n valve,, LOLOL,,, good to see progress on someones project,,,, gonna wait till spring to hop back on mine,,, bout the time i get the wood stove done,, it'll be warm ,, LOL,, God Bless
In my younger years I patched that car anyway I knew how to get it going, lol. I'm going to attempt to get it running/driving by spring. Thanks for watching brother
Sale ended, its $191.44 now
Love those old cars!! Broke a tooth on my flex plate last year, and its stayed apart for almost a year!! Great content my friend, glad to see it!! Take care!!
Good to see you my friend,I've been looking, for you!! Hope you have a great year!! Take care!!
Thank you my friend. As you can see I was VERY busy towards the end of 2023 (I road tripped the family to Disney World). I'm still trying to slow down. Thanks for watching!
Good job and yes all the external seals can be a pain to remove and replace!!!! Those mounts seem even harder......
I honestly think they are meant to be dealt with, while the lower control arms are not installed. But, thank God for wobble sockets and magnets. Thanks for watching my friend.
yeah,, I felt the aggrevasion on the motor mount replacement,, I almost went out, grab'd one of my wrenchs to throw it for ya,, LOLOL God Bless Brother
stupid GM emgineers,, put the motor mounts where ONLY Ray Charlers can see the bolts,,,

Hey boss any idea where to check if the car doesn’t start and has no spark just a simple 350 in it it’s also a 69 Chevelle I’m also located in San Antonio feel free to give me a suggestion on here or I can also send you my personal number 🙌🏽
You can message me directly on instagram, its easier to message there.
Is it a points distributer or an electronic ignition? Diagnosing them is fairly easy. They key is probing the ignition coil. One side will be "hot" with ignition on, and the other side will also be "hot", but flicker a "ground" when cranking or running. That is the points circuit (or the ignition module circuit) triggering to ground to fire the coil. If that all checks good, id manually check spark in and out of the distributer.
I imagine you already manually checked spark. Be sure to check it all the way back to the coil not just at the plugs. If you still have no spark, then check the coil primary terminals for power and a ground flicker.
@@rustedhorsepower5132 I’m gonna give you a follow rn and I can send you some pictures of the inside ! Thanks man 🙌🏽
I noticed the same splatter under my tahoe . Thnx for video 👍
Yup, they'll usually sling before thry drip. Pinion seals will do that also, thanks for watching!!
@@rustedhorsepower5132 so why not replace the pinion seal also while you were there? I’m just trying to learn.
@@mayken6661 the pinion seal is on the other end, on the rear end. It wasn't leaking.
What is that round part in front of the yoke ? My 2005 Silverado has the same thing and I haven't noticed it on other trucks was wondering what if is
I meant to say what is that round part right in front of the u-joints that sits on the yolk
Another way you can do this is by getting some more acid and make sure you have enough acid in your battery also might want to strengthen it a little bit just to be sure that it will take that charge because it wants to have a little more and it might take a little bit higher charge the next time.
And this welder is also DC current
Be very careful when charging batteries with high amperage.
Yes! Ive heard stories of them blowing up, spitting acid . Its not an exact science, but i found "uncapping" allows them to breathe and NOT build pressure. The other common mistake is connecting or disconnecting with hydrogen gasses still present, easy recipe for a POP! i retested the same battery a year later, and at the 2nd year mark i will be doing a mini recondition to it again. Thanks for watching!
That was luck knowing that the readings weren't quite there but let your alternator charge that battery and do more driving.
Um, altho an alternator can put out a generous amount of amperage, they usually cant revive a sulfated battery. Or maybe its due to the battery being charged, and discharged while the vehicle is running, thats interesting, now you got me thinking...
