Making an Adirondack Chair from an Old Swing Set
มุมมอง 326ปีที่แล้ว
This swing set needs to go after 18 years. Seems like a shame to throw out all this redwood, though. Maybe it can be upcycled into an Adirondack Chair or two? Lots of different free Adirondack Chair plans here: www.thesprucecrafts.com/free-adirondack-chair-plans-1357104 These were the plans I used, with some minor changes: www.skiptomylou.org/free-adirondack-chair-plan-printable/

Update on the Hurdy-Gurdy.
มุมมอง 3.4K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Update on the Hurdy-Gurdy. The video of my build, at th-cam.com/video/u7p0IL3QNiE/w-d-xo.html, generated a lot of compliments on the appearance and a lot of scorn about its sound. I spent some more time truing it up (seasoning the wheel with rosin, and varying the amount of cotton on the strings) and now it sounds much sweeter. If this is your kind of thing.
looks like you're using traditional tuners, those are tapered right? where'd you find them? and also, did you need to use a tapered drill bit? if so, where do you look for those kind of tools?
Yes, the tuning pins are tapered and have a hole in them. I bought them, and the drill bit, and all the specialty parts, from Zuckermann www.zhi.net
Best tutorial I've seen. Thank you
Nice boat
1:22 Hi, I see this video is a few years old, but I was hoping you could help out with the “veneer tape” that you are using in this video. I’m having trouble finding something comparable. If you are currently using a different material in place of this particular tape, could you please share? Thank you for the clear and detailed, yet easy to understand instructions! This is really beautiful work.
I think I got mine from veneersupplies.com www.veneersupplies.com/products/Veneer-Tape-34-x-650.html
Any way of getting your plans?
email me at douglasnadel@gmail.com
SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!
11:48 how does it sound like
Very, vrey impressed.
Very nice work. You gave me great idea on how to make the cuts. I was having troubles with accuracy on angles, so the home made miter should help out, along with the saw.
thanks for sharing, this is beautiful ! can you share the sizes of the box? trying to do a similar project but not sure about the sizes...
Thanks! The sides were 11 and 6.75” long, 4.25” high
Beautiful work! Somehow I never heard of these Banksia pods, but now I have to get one! :D
I found your channel because I search marquetry, I also wactched one about ottavino making. And then I saw you also build dioramas, which is funny, because I'm a woodworker and a diorama builder too. Your works are amazing in both areas.
Wow, that's cool! Do you have any photos of your own work? douglasnadel@gmail.com
Amazing. I'm not understanding why the bridge is V shaped? That makes the middle strings shorter than the lower and higher strings? Do you know why they do it like that? Thanks! I kinda want one of these now 😂
That's a good question! Have never seen an explanation for that. One of these (the floral design) is still available for sale, email me if you're interested douglasnadel@gmail.com
Amazing. I have to say it pained me to see you cut the oversize after all that work!! Beautiful work.
Baller
Interesting observations on the finished pod no 1
gorgeous! i am so not that talented. Would you happen to know if it is possible to buy veneer sheets with the patterns already put together for you so that they can be applied to a wood piece in sheets? if so where?
Yes, you can buy pre-made marquetry. Search for "veneer inlay"
Awesome job, looks fantastic and sounds authentic to me, well done
This is awesome! Very nice!
Quiero unooo
I'm curious about the vendor for the Port Orford Cedar...?
I believe I got it at Hearne Hardwoods in Oxford, PA. They have some really beautiful stock there. More recently I've bought spruce soundboards from Stew-Mac
Can't understand why this video has less views than twerking. World is ending. Anyway - great job man!
Ha ha and thanks!
Outstanding in all ways!!
woodworking techniques never change across different practices: straight backplate with two spacer blocks to get equal cuts.
Great video. Thank you for sharing.
Maestro!
Great job, bery clean workbench, fore a bery nice job you do.
lovely project and presentation. I would love to have a little ottavino
One of my Ottavino Spinets is still available, see video linked above, email me if you're interested douglasnadel@gmail.com
This instrument is wonderful! Is this or a similar one somewhere available.
One of them still available, email me if you're serious douglasnadel@gmail.com
How cute is that!! Can one buy this or a similar one somewhere?
I have one more Ottavino Spinet available. See link above for it's video and email me if you're interested douglasnadel@gmail.com
Ah! ❤
This is a mini Soprano Harpsichord with compass of E4 to F6!!!
This is a mini harpsichord at 4' which sounds from E4 to F6; you should make an octave lower version, a 8' instrument which will sound from E3 to F5!!!! Great one!!!!
The Cembalino is considered a half size harpsichord I think.
I guess I'll have to make one sometime...
@@douglasnadel1028 Ok. Definitely.
I don't know why, but I am trying to make one myself. This video just shows me the intensity of how perfect everything needs to be. Thank you, by the way, no other video on TH-cam goes through the detail need to create one! Good luck to me... haa
Hey check out my video of building an Ottavino Spinet, I have a construction manual available for it. douglasnadel@gmail.com
Wow! Your instrument sounds so beautiful and clean!
man that was GREAT !

Do you have any video of how you made the template board to hold all the string and ship in place
The wooden "trestle" comes from the book I reference in the description above. It's basically just a cross of wood, about 12" long and 4-5" wide. The model gets screwed in from underneath at one end. At the other end, on the cross piece, are a bunch of nails to wrap the strings around and hold them. A bunch of small screw eyes in front of and under the ship can help keep the lines separated.
@@douglasnadel1028 thanks brotha really appreciate you taking the time to respond and helping me out
My eye only watching And my brain even after looking and hearing the instructions 💫💤💤💤
This deserves my ...Wow ! I think I´ll stick to a modest transport flight crate with metal profiles and protection corners or thereabout for mine, maybe get a little artsy inside. But Wow! If I could afford to cherish your work, I´d give you a fair bid :)
Nice. I always wanted a harpsichord. Could not afford one, those I´ve seen for sale costs more than classic campaign furnitures. I usually have good luck with wood working, maybe I´ll should give building one a try. I´d like one in transportable size but I also like having full range of tones and the tonal modes. Do you know any site with good descriptions to draw such design influences from ? Guitarist caught shopping in a piano shop; What piano string gauges fits what tone ranges ? And whats up with double/triple strings on each note ?
You can buy a kit for a full-size harpsichord from Zuckermann's, these are still quite expensive. Renaissance Workshop Company sells kits and plans for a full-size spinet. Check out my video on building an Ottavino Spinet th-cam.com/video/naSeYNwb4XU/w-d-xo.html If you want to try building it, email me and I'll send you plans douglasnadel@gmail.com
I’m so glad you decided to class up your primitive instrument by playing The Doors on it!
How much larger would it have to be to have three octaves? Can could the register be lowered?
It would just be proportional, about 50% bigger all around.
Amazing and definitely not for every monkey to do. 🙉🐒
Fascinating. Thank you.
One question, were those models of harpsichords used in general during the time or are they exclusively for children?
Don't really have any idea
that last spinnet sounded a bit out of tune, or maybe it was just the phrase you played that sounded slightly off
Music Makers hurdy gurdy plans as a template… not the best of plans! Why they made their hgs with such large sound holes is beyond me! In my 40 years of playing the hg I have never (NEVER!) seen such large sound holes and never in that position! 😆
thank you
