    Great video. I own a 2014 X6M with the coolant hose leaking at the top at the 2 clamps not as bad as yours. I am familiar with the Oetiker clamps and they are not a good choice when you have a rubber hose like this one where it is exposed to extreme temperatures. No wonder it is a common issue with most bmw’s leaking at the Oetiker clamps. When these are manufactured, the clamps are crimped when the rubber is rigid at room temperature. Over time due this high temperature exposure, the rubber becomes soft and the clamp has no longer the clamp force adequate to hold the hose which leads to slow leak and stinky smell. So what I did was to just cut off the clamps with some effort without damaging the hose and replaced it with a 1 dollar 3/4” 304 Stainless steel band clamp. I didn’t even have to drain the radiator. It took all in all 15 to 20 minutes to complete the job. Didn’t have to spend $260 plus coolant and time at all. I started noticing the leak around 40k miles. Trick is to completely unscrew the band clamp, open clasp wrap around the hose and secure it tight at the same location where the Oetiker clamp was. So, you don’t even have to disconnect the hose to install the clamp. Just make sure the engine is cold when you do this job and open the coolant reservoir tank cap to release any pressure before starting the task. One clamp is easy while the other one to reach you will have carefully disconnect one end of the breather hose that rests over the heat shield and then remove the 2 screws to lift the 2 heat shield halves away from the engine and insert a wood block or a socket to access the clamp that is on the right side when viewing from the front of the S63 ENGINE (E70 and E71 X5M and X6M). Hope this helped.

    the real problem are the clamps not the lines. I got clamps from a manufacturer for marine ships. They have these special clamps that do not bite into the lines so as not to damage them and provide a good seal. Also remove the t fittings and y fittings for brass or stainless steel ones. The clamps I used are non perforated. They are the best coolant clamps out there.

      They are called Oetiker Clamps. You can get a inexpensive kit from Amazon with the crimping tool that is used to attach them.

    • @Fissural
      @Fissural 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would not use the Oetiker clamps again because once they are crimped that’s it they do not apply constant pressure like spring clap or band clamp. Also remember the rubber softens with increase in temperature while the metal expands as well, both working against each other. Especially between the hot V those connections are exposed to extreme heat. I replaced mine last week so far no leak and that unpleasant stink of burning coolant. I don’t know what the BMW engineers were thinking.

    More than 10,500 views! Can you imagine how many E70 X5M owners have leaking turbo coolant hoses... What a poor design by BMW! To think that their Motorsport division signed off on such a crappy "let's link the pump to the turbos using basic hoses and clamps" design shows that they're amateurs, especially for a car with this price tag. Considering the hot V design of the S63 engine (the middle of that hot V is where the exhaust and the turbos are located, so it gets really hot and rubber hoses cook off and become brittle within a couple of years), the M boys should have used hard steel lines all the way... It's not like it's complicated routing, and it only requires 3 bends per line, plus one tee and another bend for that second outlet. German engineering isn't what it used to be...

    • @Fissural
      @Fissural 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hose is fine however the clamp selected for the application is incorrect. They should have gone with the spring clamp instead that maintain constant pressure even when the rubber softens due to high temperature it is exposed to between the hot V where the turbos reside.
