Cool...just a heads-up on future (old coin finds): I think it's in your interest to NOT rub the coins - esp. w/the gritty/sandy soil. By doing so, if there's any rarity value to the coin, rubbing it w/sandy soil/fingers drastically reduces its value. Just pour some water instead; until you get home...then use very gentle procedures till you know what you have. Thanks again. Cool coins!

Hi, as a long-time (50 years) coin collector, I cringe a bit when I see silver coins that have been dipped. For the common dates, no big deal, as their value is just for silver; however, if you find a better date, dipping destroys numismatic value.

Record breaking, bucket listing heck of a day- Major Congrats!! The ring was incredible, along with the multitude of pennies and silver coins. Don't know if you've made any progress with the military tag, but it appears to me that I see USNA on the reverse- US Naval Academy? Wondering if they could provide some info on the owner? Lucky you. Here it is so hard to find a place that's never been detected and I still haven't found a coin from the 1800s I'm from oregon there aren't too many extremely historic areas near me mostly 1860-1900s oldest coin I've found so far was from 1914 at my friends house and I've only ever found 1 silver it was a 1952 dime

There should be a sterling stamp on the inside of the thimble at the tip of the bowl area.

Nice! At least in my experience, that is around a 1-in-100 yard. You have to hit about 100 yards before you find one that pays out like that on average... at least in my area, with my experience. So... to me, that is a KILLER hunt. Congrats! I DID dig 28 wheats in one day, once, but only 5 silvers that day... and on public property, not a yard. Anyway... thanks for sharing!
