Hmm thinking oneself enlightened.. who gets enlightened, not the Seif. The ignorance gets enlightened, so one is saying i was so ignorant, thats what im enlightened means haha It's safer ground (if pressed) to declare you are the Self.. that Unborn immortal unchanging Awareness, rather than to say im enlightened. Some of the most enormous damage is perpetuating this idea of enlightenment as some event, or even the idea that such an enlightenment translates to some saintly behaviour.. that is damaging too Swami. Its fair to say that knowledge of ones true nature releaves one of fear, suffering and many desires that arise from a sense of incompleteness. That might not be an automatic thing though. It should be clear that even if there is a radical shift in identity, an irreversible breakthrough,,awakening or whatever you want to call it one can still have residual vasanas. As Dattatreya says in Tripura Rahasya... 109-12. The vasanas not inimical to realisation are not weeded out by the best class of Jnanis because they cannot seek new ones to crowd the old out. Therefore the old ones continue until they are exhausted and thus you find among them some highly irritable, some lustful and others pious and dutiful, and so on. Dattareya makes it clear that piousness, dutifulness are just as much vasanas as irritation and lust. These vasanas are also said to not be inimical to realisation, in other words they dont prevent realisation and therefore will continuea after Realisation.. So lets not create some image of enlightenment as someone possessing only acceptable or saintly vasanas, usually people are a mix. Sometimes one has already cultivated or naturally exhibits saintly vasanas prior to realisation and when they have realisation they appear saintly... Sometimes you get cases of clear realisation and there are documented moments of irritation.. Nissargadatta is a recent example. Of course, he never said he was enlightened or a jnani, he said he was that.. Brahman Self. Of course, its probably possible to cultivate good qualities even after Realisation.. why not, or at least to quicken the natural process of stabilisation through continued sadhana. Also, i have a bone to pick with Swamiji's favourite translator of the Ashtavakra Gita Thomas Byrom. It might be a fine translation and Swamiji would know since he's fluent in sanskit, but the fact that he changed the structure getting rid of the dialogue between Janaka and Ashtavakra.. making it a monologue. My point is the original author of Ashtavakra Gita made it a dialogue between an ascetic and a king for a blooody good reason.. because it hints at the various divergent ways in which moksha is lived! To omit it furthers the wrong notion that realisation means one has to live like a monk. Im surprised at Byrom's arrogance in doing that, but im also shocked that the esteemed Swami hasn't noticed this as important, but i guess that's congruent with the way Ramakrishna Mission sees things.

I also experienced his powers. I had to choose between a life with him, a turkey, mind vacant....gobble gobble. And a life of despair, completely alone....I chose the latter.

And then I watched Sunseed, with Ram Das talking about his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, who is also Krishna Das´s guru, and there is actually a rare footage of the Maharajji and Krishna Das, too, in the movie. Sweet. So...may all beings be free of suffering!
