This is my favorite performance from Riverdance 97 and perhaps from all Riverdance shows. This is so awesome! I'll hope you'll watch and enjoy it as much as I did :-)

Great performance from DODG show. You can see how dancers not just dancing. They acting. They got every emotion on their faces: merriment, amusement, and then they understand everything and here comes anger. Enjoy.

Great performance from "Dancing on Dangerous Ground" show
0:18 - 0:19 Pow, right in the kisser.
Someone just needs to combine the audio from this with the color video from the upload "Michael Flatley (ОРТ - 69-я церемония вручения премии «Оскар» 1997) *50fps*" to have a better quality version in color!
why in b/w?
I witnessed this phenomenon in Denver CO. Last minute tickets placed us center orchestra clese enuf to see the sweat. OMB it was the most athletic, masculine, entertaining dance show ever. The homoerotc testerone was intoxicating.
Stunning,!😊
I really wanted to love this but I think the reason Michael was so successful is he not only highlighted but bolstered the Irish heritage ancestry made that sexy where jean is showing how you can adapt river dance into different styles of music and dance. I think flatleys just comes across in a more spectacular and whimsical way. Even if he had the ego why not? He’s brill and I prefer his show but Jean is still phenomenal and a special dancer in my heart always 🩵
The fact that only a grainy black and white version of this exists as part of the 1997( not 1927!) Academy of MOTION PICTURES and FILM awards - amounts to cultural oppression of Irish culture/ the creativity of a great Irish American, and shows the pernicious post colonial influence of British members of the Academy. Btw. This film was provided by Michael Flatleys own production company who wisely took the precaution of recording their performance, even though Academy camera crew were apparently filming too.
Jean, so beautiful, reminds me a little of Kidman
I was there in person.

Amazing. Andalusia in essence. Irish culture. The same passion.
Out of all the Irish dance stage shows that followed in the wake of Riverdance, this seems to be the only one that didn't seem like a tackier imitation. The others tried to copy and one-up the epicness and spectacle of Riverdance by having even more spangly costumes and even more theatrical music, but this one took things in the other direction and tried to make it grounded and personal. Riverdance had a lot more depth than its imitators, trying to be very emotional and a little bit sexy. This one aimed to be VERY sexy.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💐
Великолепно. Колин - Джин гении. Как жаль, что это произведение не оценили. Его прокат в России вызвал бы невероятный фурор.
Need a good quality video of this event. Fantastic performance!
im trying to pay attention to the dance but that dude is so weird looking i just cant get into it
I have searching for this for years. I was spell bound by it when I first watched it as a teenager. It's a shame we can;t get hold of a better quality footage till today.
I recall how Gene Siskel complained to the media about the inclusion of the Riverdance Dancers for the film Editing award. He thought it was stupid. He questioned what Irish step dancing had to do with film editing & thought it just a plug for Michael Flately's show. I agree with Siskel, that this was all very awkward and silly. But then too, who really cares. Let the people running the Oscars do the show their way. Let 'em do whatever ridiculous thing that they want to do. Let the telecast run 6 hours. You don't have to watch. I Stopped watching the Oscars years ago.
HOLLY GODDAM SHIT!!!! I remember watching this live back then.... Still got goosebumps and chills. WOW!!!
His legs move as if independently from his body!!
This was a great number, but what the HECK does 'Lord of the Dance' have to do with the movies? I saw this when it aired in 1997 and I was baffled.
This is perfect for equestria girls in tap dancing doggies, a parody of tap dances where Sunset Shimmer and her girlfriends will put on their tap shoes and pretty costumes and get ready to hoof it, in style
Perfekt 👌👍👍👍👍👏👏🙋🏽♀️
Colin has the charisma of a stage performer, and Flatley that of an entertainer. Colin tells a story and shares the stage to do so, Flatley lives for the spotlight.
I totally disagree. There is no comparison and the history tells the truth. Lord of the Dance, blew the roof off of the stolen Riverdance or what was left of it by the obvious entertainment industry elite. The "River dance that once was" died after Flatley left. I went and took my mother it was boring. Boring to the bone
Agree 100%
LOVE the costuming. When the art is great, skin is not necessary.
Feels Egyptian, too
They were beautiful! Very much a late 90s early 2000s aesthetic but I loved that approach! If i were to put this show on today i wouldnt change much of the original costuming.
Modern, sophisticated and ADULT
One of the best. Flatley is a genius👍
The chemistry between these two are amazing this has been my and my mama's favorite dance!
Шикардос
Colin 👍👍👏👏
Flamenco was always such a grown up dance.
They ruined it by having those vid's distracting from Michael and the dancers.
Well, Jean’s a lot more coordinated here than I was at my stagette.
Jean Butler looks just like Nicole Kidman
this is more erotic than a tango,or maybe it's the chemistry they have.you could probably do an unerotic tango as well if there's no chemistry.whoever wrote and is playing that music has got it.it just brings the dancing to a new height and sensuousness
Brilliant dancing and acting. Pity this show did not do better commercially. Have often thought that they would have been more successful if they had had a more attractive and varied colour scheme. Did budget prevent them?
I noticed that too. The dark, dimly lit stage, was NOT good. The thing about theater, is that the colors, the lighting and wardrobe contribute to the story being told, as much as the music and dance do. I wanted to love this show, but I found it too dismal and depressing.🥺 The storyline itself, was also hard. Anyone familiar with West Side Story and Romeo and Juliet, knows that those 2 shows were about love gone tragically wrong. They did not have a happy ending and that is the "vibe" that I got here. Riverdance was more successful in my view because the story was of hope, new beginnings and a celebrating of different cultures through dance. By the end, you felt inspired, energized and pumped up. This show made me feel depressed and glad it was over. Not how you want your audience to feel. There is a show called Rhythm of the Dance and it not only got back to the beautiful colors and vibrance that an Irish dance show should have but again the mood was celebratory and uplifting. Jean and Colin were great dancers but this show left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I wished that a lot of things had been different. The darkness of the show, physically and emotionally, is why I believe that it was a commercial failure.😮 Such a shame for 2 dancers that revolutionized Irish dance.
@0:16 Dance, then, wherever you may be, I am the Lord of the WHACK XD
So romantic, so intence... love this 💞
When Jean danced with Flatley, there was never the same spark of chemistry as when she danced with Colin. She and Flatley were on the same stage, dancing next to each other, but she danced WITH Colin.
Exactly! I think Jean and Colin danced together quite a lot, they both toured with the Chieftains, then again in Riverdance, and then this. But having seen videos of when they toured with the Chieftains they had a spark then.
Yes, it shine through😊😊
Yes, it shine through😊😊
Sensacional, espetacular, explendido, magnifico......
The focus is on the dancing feet. The lighting hinders what we the audience want to see. -I do realize that the dim lighting wants to give the impression of intimacy, - but that can be done in a hotel room. Light it up
"tis true that Michael Flatley was eat up with "ego". "tis true that it just might be that technically, Colin Dunne was a better dancer than Flatley. However, there will NEVER be a dancing chemistry that Flatley and Butler exuded. It is WHAT made Riverdance be loved by millions of people all over the world overnight. In other words, Michael Flatley and Jean Butler, helped create an entertainment extraordinaire that will NEVER be duplicated again, let alone topped. I am convinced that IF there was a vote on this worldwide, Flatley and Butler would overwhelm Dunne and Butler hands down. Dunne just did not have the charisma; and try as she did, she could NOT bring out what Flatley had innately. Of course Jean was eat up with charisma from birth. And she was one of THE most beautiful dancers to grace the stage. Finally, "Riverdance", since to today, is nothing to what M and J did in 1995. Oh indeed yes.
Good afternoon Serena, how are you doing, hope you’re in good health?
❤️
Dear Mr. Flatley, I agree with you that finally both the Hungarian and the Irish people must stand up! Then we can dance the Irish stepp or a Hungarian folk dance. Hi. with great love a Hungarian female fan!

Grania's Betrayal showcases the VERY. BEST. Of this Art. While I enjoy the entire show (Tony Kemp is OUTSTANDING!!!! in the Narrative and Cohesiveness of the Story!) The music in this scene, is beyond Hypnotic. Love, love LOVE!
That moment at 2:06 where Colin grabs Jean's hair is the hottest, most erotic thing I've seen in years. Their chemistry absolutely sizzles. Amazing show <3

I agree, there was so much sensuality, dare I say even sexual tension in the dances where they were partnered. Even the scene where they flee to the forest after she and the women drug the men and Finn at the wedding, I think that has more sensuality even than this, even though the dance leans more to a balletic style rather than a sensual tango, because it’s the uniting of two lovers.
There's an interview of him saying everything went perfect during rehearsal then wrong during the performance. The camera guy he ran into was a last minute guy, and his pants his dresser couldn't get on fast enough so his pants almost came off! He also said he slipped on one of his kicks. Poor guy!
You can see his back foot slipping around 0:32
