    These look great! We are a family of eight. My kids' favorite weeknight meal is shrimp pasta. I cook a bag of frozen, peeled shrimp in a stick of melted butter with about a tablespoon of Old Bay seasoning. As the shrimp thaws and cooks, the water from the frozen shrimp acts like a seafood stock mixed with the butter and seasoning to make a sauce. Then once the shrimp is done (only takes about ten minutes to go from frozen to cooked) we just put that over any kind of cooked pasta. If I have fresh spinach, I add a few handfuls of that at the end to make it a complete meal. I love that it's done in the same amount of time the pasta cooks and I don't have to remember to defrost anything. It's even faster if the shrimp is already cooked. If I have pre-cooked shrimp, I make the pasta in the Instant Pot and then add the butter, seasoning, and shimp after the pasta is done so I don't have to stand over the stove.

      @@TheTexMexMom I love it, too. One of our local stores has the frozen bags on sale for $5 often. Just be careful when introducing a possible allergen like shellfish to younger kiddos. My brother has a peanut allergy, so I'm extra cautious about that now.

    When you factor in smaller quantities and going from store to store to save money, prices have doubled. Tell your boss you need a 100% pay raise..LOL I decided to grow a garden this year from seeds in 15 gallon grow bags and I've got cucumbers, tomatoes, okra, egg plant, cantaloupe, strawberries, jalapeños, bell peppers, dill, basil, zucchini, tomatillos, onions and potatoes. Yeah it's a little work but it's fun and it forces me to eat healthy. Now the economics, there is a little upfront cost but once you have the infrastructure in place ,every year your costs go down to almost zero. I will more than breakeven in the first year alone. Quart mason jars are your friend! BTW Native Texan here, I'm trying to learn piano so if you teach lessons I'd be interested ;-)

    Lady,you are talking about 5 years difference in price. Yes I agree some things are way out of range. Also alot of these people on here have larger families than then. 5 yrs difference in groceries are not going to stay the same. People are having to buy more groceries because they have alot of kids. Also everybody is buying organic. Which is higher. No wonder their grocery bill is high.

    New subscriber from Norway here, and yes the prices has gone up here too. Very interesting to see this kind of comparison. I use coupons and are shopping the sales. I also buy in season and a lot of frozen veggies and berries. I feel I can still get good deals, and I know my prices, but slowly I have had to accept that the cucumbers are over $2 and so on. Cucumbers are never on sale, but say grapes are on sale, but on a higher price than it was as a regular price before. My mental state has shifted and I can say to myself “that was a good price” on something and before I would have thought it was very expensive 😂🤑🫣 I can still find good deals and are glad for that 😊🙏🏼 Thank you for sharing! In addition to prices going up, food manufacturers are not only decreasing the size of products (shrinkflation), but many of them are also changing the ingredients to cheaper ingredients to cut costs. I was guessing about $150, so that was a nice surprise. Does that seventy some odd dollars include the lettuce you would have bought or was that how much you actually spent? Just curious.

      Yes it does include the lettuce. I honestly was surprised it wasn’t more too, but still it’s a more than 50% increase which is crazy. I’m wondering if I was comparing prices at a store like Kroger if the increases would be even more. Also yes, shrinkflation is the worst! So frustrating as a consumer!

    I remember your grocery list from 2019! Your blog always inspired me to make a list before going to the store and shopping at Aldi! But yes prices now are crazy 😭

    That was crazy for me to hear the current prices at Aldi! Last time I shopped there was probably 2015, so your 2019 prices sounded like Aldi to me and wow, things have definitely changed!

      I loved that I used to be able to get pretzels, tortilla chips, and stuff like that for under a dollar! Now they’re at least twice as much and with more kids we eat them at least twice as fast 😂

    I had guessed $150 now so I’m glad it hasn’t gone up that much at least! It feels like I’m spending a lot more!

    • @TheTexMexMom
      @TheTexMexMom 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oof yeah I’m glad it hasn’t tripled for sure! But still if you used to spend 100 you’re spending over 150 now so that’s still a huge increase in my opinion!

    • @TheTexMexMom
      @TheTexMexMom 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it depends on what you are buying too because some products have tripled in price like eggs!

      @@TheTexMexMom true! I feel like meat has gone up sooo much too!

      Yes it’s crazy what they charge for meat most places! I try to mostly just buy it on sale now!

      What seems to make it difficult too is salaries haven't been increased. So basically the same income with the higher prices. The Lord always provides sometimes in ways we would not ever think of.

    Izzy and I watched and loved your tips! I’ve been trying to do more of this and plan out my week ahead of time! It helps me not spend as much to just shop once a week too!

      Aww I hope Izzy got some good tips 😅 That’s a great tip about shopping once a week, that helps us a lot too! It’s the extra random runs to the grocery store that kill us lol

    Meal planning has definitely changed over time for my family. In our current season keeping it simple is what works best for us. I choose 1 day a week to be more creative in the kitchen and live by the KISS (keep it simple Stacey) method the rest of the week per my families request. They like knowing what to expect. When I tell them we are having goulash they like knowing exactly what they are getting and that they will like it. Not recreating the wheel nightly has been a game changer for us and has eliminated the nightly stress.

      I love that! My kids like tried and true too. They’re always a little suspicious when I’m making something new haha.
