    My stoma journey, I hope you are much better now. I ordered samples from Coloplast (no stoma yet), they did not arrive. Not too keen on their customer service.

    Hi dave, a few questions since you have not updated in 3 years. do you still have your rectum and anus? How are they doing, do they still cause you pain? I would assumne having no colon attaached there would be no mucus at all? I ask because i have a loop ostomy and its causing me major issues anal/revctal. I'm considering having it removed and having just an end ostomy. In other words, no colon from rectum to laft end ostomy. hope all is well, thanks in advance.

    • @thewisepowerchair2369
      @thewisepowerchair2369 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mucus is produced by the small and large intestines, the rectum and the anus; these will continue to produce mucus even when a person has had a stoma, and downstream from the stoma this mucus, plus any dead cells, will be shed through the anus. Downstream from a stoma, the unused intestines are receiving no nutrients, and this will lead to diversion colitis, which can be treatable, but if not the rectum and anus are removed. Hope this helps.

    3 years on and this video is still helping people. I have colon cancer and am due to have a stoma early in 2024. Nervous is an understatement. I was born with spina Bifida and in recent years I'm in a wheelchair. So I was no stranger to surgery in my childhood. But at the age of 54 I am more nervous than I remember being as a kid. I was a little afraid to watch your video. But I really found it strangely reassuring. Thank you for making this video and posting it.

      How are you going with the stoma? I have cancer and I was born with spina bifida too, so very similar situation as you, but I am 33 and the reason why I might be getting a stoma is because of severe endometriosis that is causing bowel adhesions and severe bowel issues. I am extremely nervous and I am just wondering how you are and if the stoma ended up being as bad as you thought.

      @@iSheree Hi I have no regrets about having a permanent stoma. It wasn't an easy decision. But I am happy not to have to have another operation to reverse it. In my situation and maybe yours too it makes life easier. It takes away those bowel issues and gives you your life back to a degree. Currently I am going through chemo which isn't much fun. But I am confident that life will get better now I have the stoma. Good luck to you.

    I am not sure what kind of ostomy you have, but based on your description, it sounds like an ileostomy. Anyway, I assume the gas buildup contributed to the explosion. This is most common. I have had it may times over the years (ileostomy). One thing you might try is an appliance that has a filter. This will allow gas to escape while you are sleeping while the contents remain inside. During the day you can apply a covering over the filter that prevents any fecal discharge. Alternatively, if you are a lighter sleeper, you can just burp the bag to release the pressure. As for any excessive fecal material during the night, you can use a high output appliance during the night to accommodate this. This is particularly useful with the two-piece system.

I do the same “knock on wood,” LoL. You’ve given me some good ideas, especially with traveling (which is still in the future). Stay strong, and keep up the great content! Hi my new Ostomate friend. I worry like you, I bring ziplocks with me and extra tissues & had to empty it in my car as have high output. Sorry about the explosion, yes it does happen at the most horrendous times. It's time consuming to get yourself all cleaned up again. If you notice Billy is ballooning at night you can try this: I have a roll & lock so I unroll it carefully & burp my ET & closed it back up & all is well. Keep your chin up 🌻💜✌

    Hi.....I’m a New Subbie...I order from Coloplast as well but they never send me freebies 😢...did you request those? Did you order the cloth wipes as well? One last question.....the card to let others know that we carry Ostomy Supplies, did you order that or did they automatically send you that? I received my 2nd order this past Saturday and the only items I received is what I ordered🤔🤔🤔. I’m loving your videos thus far, I have been having quite a bit of complications with my stoma and I’m not happy, I had a prolapse and I nearly lost my mind when this happened 😩😩😩😢😢😢...and now I’m having BM from my rectum which is very very very painful but my surgeon is telling me this is Normal, has this happened to you before?

    • @mystomajourney7191
      @mystomajourney7191 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I was given all the freebies from them. They told me about them but I asked for more dry wipes and was prescribed extra adhesive remover spray. I am now gou g to be getting supplies from Bullen healthcare who seem much more helpful and offer some really useful freebies. They have already sent dome bed oads and radar keys. I get my next order a week Monday so will post a video then as well. I still get phantom pains from my back end and pain inside if I don't use my cushion but that's it as I have been totally stitched up back there. The surgeon said it may break down and reheal but nothing like that as yet thankfully. Thanks for watching and hope you are doing OK

    Hi there. I first heard about your health challenges from your brother-in-law on Twitter, and I wanted to ask how you are doing. I watched one of your videos a few weeks ago, and when I checked back again today I was dismayed to hear about your colostomy bag exploding. I do admire how you keep in good spirits and remain positive. I'm tempted to ask you a few medical questions, but at the same time I don't want to be too nosy. In either case, I'm hoping you remain strong, and I'm hoping that somehow the doctors find a cure for this soon. Good luck and Godspeed!

      @@mystomajourney7191 Of course! I'm hoping that everything is going well for you. If I may ask, did the doctors say that you are a candidate for a bowel transplant? I'm hoping that they are able to come up with a solution so that your life can return back to normal :)

    • @mystomajourney7191
      @mystomajourney7191 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Rmenghani4 This is a permanent solution, I don't think it's a transplantable part, not yet anyway because it is such a delicate part. There is still plenty I can do as long as I plan things.

    Hey there, just found your videos. Haven't gone through your journey but have experienced other health challenges/ major surgeries. I remember my physical therapist saying for every hour you are under general anesthesia it takes that many weeks to recover your energy back.
