Japanese Navy MXY-7 ""Ohka"" Suicide Attacker; Battle of Okinawa
When I was in VMA 542 from 1982 to 1989 we worked very hard to maintain readiness looking back it was a great time
Nobody called them Vietcong except the US.
So the Jap with POW has gone back down to convince the die hards they would be better off surrendering.
My uncle was on that plane, thank you for sharing this
As if I needed to feel even prouder of my beautiful country!!! The United States is the kindest, fairest, most humble nation that has ever existed!!! Semper Fi to the real Marines shown in this video and that fought in that horrible war. You are my brothers across time and space!!!
Great video, this! 😃👆🏽
rip grandpa
rip 😢
The Japanese got the biggest reality check of all time. The were barbarians, and now are the nicest people ever.
Didn't most Japanese soldiers apparently commit seppuku? These guys look pretty happy ngl.
I thought the M48A3 entered service nearer the mid 60s? Correct me if I am wrong
Love the WIDE-MED-CU shots! As a camera guy I appreciate what they did filming these scenes. Drill scene, sailor and Marine sharing a smoke.
I thought is was interesting the the camera team noted the dual wheeled truck. Maybe they had not seen a deuce and a half yet. Great video.
If the people whining about the title had been there they wouldn’t be complaining. I wouldn’t think of using that term to describe a Japanese person today. The Japanese people those Marines fought were very different people. Amazing footage. Thanks for posting.
These "Zippos" saved countless Marine lives on that island. Great invention.
Are you able to make out the name on the nose art of the TBM?
It's amazing that volcano didn't erupt from all the ordinance that was dropped on it😂
"Jap" is just short for "Japanese" just like "Yank" is short for "Yankee". Geez folks.
Thank you for posting this. My grandfather was stationed onboard the USS Mellette(APA 156) during WWII.
Mines, etc., were much better hidden than shown in this video. And the markings, 3 sticks, changed constantly. Also there were many fake markings. You never walked on their trails or roads but stayed in the jungle. VC and NVA scavenged unexploded bombs and shells. Scooped out the explosive and made German type hand grenades. Because they scavenged, AK magazines were left on dead VC with one round with explosives that would fire with such force it would break the bolt lugs and force the bolt out the back of the rifle and (hopefully) thru the head of the VC. Also doctored motor rounds were left to be found that would explode when dropped into the tube, killing the crew. Called Eldest Son or Elder Son, it was so wide spread, the enemy thought they had an ammo problem. Captured documents sometimes commented on the ammo problem. US and allied personnel got routine notices warning not to shoot captured ammo as part of the ruse. Generally if you shook the round and didn't hear gun powder, don't use it.
One of the most controversial and criticiced pacific american operation of wwll, after this terrible battle Peleliu was not use for the US air in the invasión of philiphines so it was clear that sadly was an unnecesary lost of many lives in both sides
My ex wife's father. Marine Corpsman Wlater Gelien. Brother of Tap Hunter, KIA Marble Mountain 1965 when the VC attacked the base. Read the full story at POPSMOKE. Walter is a real hero.
I'm reading a story about PV-1 squadron stationed there right now. Miserable, stinky, hot place with not a twig standing to get any relief from the sun. Those dark guys were natives recruited from neighboring islands. The commander also had the female natives who worked there wear Navy t-shirts to cover up since they wore no tops normally.
It's incredibly bizarre to watch this video knowing there's a really good chance my grandfather is on it as it's being recorded. I'll have to ask.
I know a Doc Holiday from 3rd Bn 4th Marines, a longshot but could that be you?::
These people are most likely Koreans conscripted into the Japanese military. Japanese almost never surrendered. Also that one guy who waves and smiles into the camera is absolutely not Japanese. No Japanese at that time ever would have done that, just way, way outside of their shame culture or "haji bunka".
J a p s Had the upper hand position, they had no problems breaking codes of ethics during warfare
I got here from Ray's rock playlist, and I have no regrets. :)
Kami-kazé stunned that " Gaï-Jins" are behaviouring so human...
Good video. Times were hard in the 50’s!
Those poor men in those caves Thank you for helping them War is terrible
Watch thus it’s US ♥️♥️🇺🇸
I was weapons tech AH-1 Cobra Attack helicopters and later AH-64 Apache Helicopters. My M.O.S. was a 68J10 maintaining these systems when I was in the Army from 1987 until about mid 1990. I miss this awesome aircraft a beautiful slim aircraft and I have never lost my love for my Cobra ❤
Interesting, Army DUKW vehicles manned by black troops.
No Audio sir
My neighbor was there. He was part of baker company
3:38-3:41 Pilot seems to be unconcious for a moment.
My father made this movie for North American Aviation in 1969...he flew 33 Combat missions in it and the Cobra...embedded with VMO-2 in DaNang.
Vieques a beautiful island. I spent a great year at Camp Garcia in 1973
In my opinion, the soldiers that fought in ww1 are some of the bravest people to walk the earth. God bless them all
Frieden für alle Menschen
My Grandfather served on the USS Barrow APA61 Roy Donelson! His ship was also part of operation Crossroads!
*"This Is a Flammenwerfer, It Werfs Flammen"*
That sound in combat flying above your head with the doppler effect, knowing it is about to take a huge toll from the enemy, is an amazing sound.
Everyone grandpas and dads fought here…
I deployed on the USS Saipan in 96 & was a member of 3rd Bn 10th Marines that fought on Saipan in WWII "Seven for One"
Gotta love war history!!
Wow so they didn’t use foam bombs back then or flood the tunnels with salt water to drown the inhabitants… sheesh.
I LOVE YOU
6:40 Glad we are allies with these guys. Formidable men on both sides of this war.
8:04 no sound needed .🙏
Oh wow they even gave him a cig lol
