"Tuck Your Damn Elbow" As A Fundamental Technique To Transform Your Two Handed Bowling Game
There's no right or wrong in bowling. What works for others might not work for you. Results speak for themselves. However, in my observation, most good to great 2-handed bowlers have something in common that we can replicate to succeed. The “Tuck Your Damn Elbow” technique or TYDE for short is entirely my personal perspective. But I strongly believe that it can help transform many bowlers' games once and forever. This can be a long video but truly worth your time so you can bookmark it to watch later. Let's dive in.
🔹 What is The Tucked Elbow?
I've talked about this technique in other previous videos. And after a time of experimentation, I can conclude that this technique helps many bowlers optimize their ball roll by helping them stay more behind the ball during their release.
📌 Key Points:
00:39 What is the tucked elbow?
01:29 Tucking the Elbow In: This is not a natural arm position according to human arm anatomy, but it can be trained. It helps you stay more behind the ball in an easy way.
02:09 Elbow Position: Focus on the medial epicondyle (inside part of the elbow). Move it inward and keep it there during the swing.
03:21 Common Mistakes:
1. Untucking the elbow during the swing.
2. Turning the wrist to the left (for right-handed bowlers) while adopting the elbow-in technique.
3. Not opening your hips enough to create space for the tucked elbow to swing back.
🌟 06:01 Key Takeaways:
1. Keep your tucked elbow position from start to end.
2. Don’t pull the ball back into the swing or raise the ball up during the backswing.
3. Don't turn the wrist when you have already tucked the elbow.
4. Open your hips to create space for the tucked elbow to swing back.

    I have loved this video for a while and it has been a big influence in getting me interested in biomechanics. I am conducting a research paper, in part, on the biomechanics of one handed and two handed bowling, and how they compare to other sports. Do you happen to have any sources you used that are about the biomechanics of two-handed bowling? I have found many studies on the biomechanics of one-handed bowling, but I can't really find anything too detailed on two-handed bowling. Thanks for the help if you can!

      Hi brother, I don't have any specific source but only google. If you use a bit of your time observing and feeling your bowling arm, you would ask yourself:"How does it truly work when releasing the bowling ball?" I started with that question then focused on the humerus joint to check-out its natural movement. That's all :D

I ran across your channel and watched most of your vidioes and decided to try two hands. My first two games were a 169 and a 177. I was pumped and striking a lot more. Now my average is around 170 and I'm told that's good for only 7 months of actual bowling. I found this video and I'm going to try your theories out. Focusing more on the non-bowling hand seems to have helped me to mentally trust my grip on the ball, allowing me to swing back farther without fear of dropping the ball 👍 I feel lately I have hit a wall in terms of ball speed. I went to a Belmo event and its amazing to see him casually throwing 18-20mph with almost no walk up, and very little physical exertion. I struggle to throw more than 15-16mph off my hand and it takes a lot of effort. If you have time, I would love a video on the general overview of ball speed as a 2 hander, since I know many others struggle with the same thing

    unfortunately, some people need to change their axis rotation due to their release causing the ball to roll over the finger holes. pro tip: hold onto the ball with your non bowling hand up until u reach your shoe laces and then let go. This will help keep your hand more behind the ball and have a more consistent release. if u look at slow motion videos of pro two handers, u see the moment they release their non bowling hand is around that area

    • @BowlismOutlaw
      @BowlismOutlaw 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Uhm...It might be a bit more difficult. There are 2 ways for 1 hander to execute the tucked elbow. # 1st way is to tuck elbow from the beginning. You need to have a strong enough arm to keep this position because you don't have support from the non-bowling arm. Also, the non-bowling arm should also move to the right side of the body to help align the body and the tucked elbow with the target line. # 2nd way is not to tuck elbow from the beginning but to swing your arm with an in-and-out trajectory then your elbow is tucked to the inside during the downswing. It's called the number 8 swing. Sounds complicated right? Anyway, I'll find a way to visualize it.

      @@BowlismOutlaw Ten pin bowling has gotten too easy - it's 80 percent strikes between the new reactive balls and patterns. Adding two handed bowling where the backswing (and any associated misalignment) is halved and more revs can be added without nearly the hand and wrist strength are making the sport a joke. I stopped watching TV bowling because of the two handed bowlers. Maybe if they go a "Master's" format with just one handed bowling I might watch again. In any case, one handed bowlers look elegant like ball room dancers while two handed bowlers look like they're slopping hogs.

    • @jacknguyen.2409
      @jacknguyen.2409 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ohger1 You might think that bowling has gotten "easier", but it is not. If you go back to the 1980s, every guy is throwing *the same urethane ball, at the same target, on the same dry and flat oil condition*. Now, it is much more diverse in terms of strategies. The conditions the pro play on now favor absolutely no one. The style evolved as a result of bowling ball equipments and oil patterns. You got different coverstocks and cores that do different things on the same condition, the same one which require players to smartly utilize certain part of the lanes. Yet I don't hear anyone complaining about new balls being released every month, and 5000$ oil machines being produced every year. You got players playing along the gutter, you got some playing in the track area, and you got some playing really deep in the oil. Each line has its own drawbacks, but then you are rewarded for making good shots. It is no longer a question of "how much power and revs the guy has" but rather "how would he attack oil conditions with that much speed, that much rev". But sure, you do not like to see 2 handed players because you spent all your time perfecting the 1 handed release, and now some kid across the block can twice your rotations and speed, so your coping mechanism tells you to be overcritical about the style for no reason.

    • @BowlismOutlaw

      Adding two handed bowling where the backswing (and any associated misalignment) is halved and more revs can be added without nearly the hand and wrist strength => Yes, that's totally right! but it is not making the sport a joke. Why? 1. Mastering 2 handed style and 1 handed style might require the same effort. 2. This game does not only require physical condition but mental toughness, versatility and strategic mind. The chance of winning is the same for all styles.

    • @ohger1

      @@BowlismOutlaw Bowling is already an easy sport - adding reactive urethane balls was bad enough but two handed bowling reduces the skill set immeasurably. If that's not enough, the "slopping the hogs" ball delivery just puts it over the top.

      Hi brother, I can explain this point in another way as follow: Don't think of detaching the non bowling hand during the release, instead, stick it with the ball. Focus on the bowling hand only. When you finish the release with the bowling hand, the non bowling hand is automatically move to the left side without your intention. That's what I mean.

    This explanation misses the point of generating leverage. What a bowler needs to do is carry the ball throughout the swing with their thumb and exit the ball cleanly. The thumb clears as ball goes past sliding ankle. The natural result of the ring and middle fingers applying leverage or rotation to the ball only because of the thumb not holding or gripping the thumb hole. Because the bowlers hand is a God-given design, the fingers will apply leverage without effort.

    One issue I found was that making the transfer to two handed bowling you must remember to use two hands to throw the ball to generate speed and the correct roll. Later you release it with more a one hand dominate but at first make sure you follow through with two hands.

    Fantastic video. Please keep up the great work in explaining the biomechanics behind bowling. As far as I can tell you are the only person currently doing that. There is so much mythology in bowling and made up reasons for doing things, so it is cool to hear the opposite of that in your videos.

      I love the “mythology” in your comment. I have to admit that there’re lots of myth and misconceptions in bowling. Even if you bowl well, you can hardly teach others because of the way we understand the techniques is totally different. That’s why I want to use the biomechanism and simple language to simplify the techniques. Thanks for your support brother 🫂I’ll keep it going 😀
