47 - this is the age of the train! The oldest dmus still in service on the rail network, not counting the tube. They gave good service. I suspect they are in better condition than some of the class 205 demu units, also scrapped at 47 years old. Some of these units seemed to be in semi-derelict condition in their final years on the Oxted and Marshlink Lines in Kent and Sussex.

I was on that train. Amazing steam effects in the freezing weather.
Whoever's idea to paint it up like the old Pullman deserves a big drink. Lots of people had the idea but whoever really made it happen.
