Always a pleasure watching you lap mate.
🚀
great driving as always mate, I'm so jealous of how flat the civic sits through corners! such a contrast to my vid lol
Had to double check I didn't have the set to 2x speed playback
How are these compared to nitto nt01s?
Do people still use Nitto NT01s? Its been nearly ten years since I've seen one of those in Australia.
I'm looking to buy new street tyres for my turbo k24 ek. Narrowed it down to the RS4's, CRS, 595RS-RR and these RE71RS. How would you rank these tyres if you've used all of them?
I assume your EK isn't a daily driver and grip is your main priority, especially from the lights or on a pull. I'd go RE71RS or CRS, I wouldn't bother buying any of the other mentioned. I am now running A052 (despite saying I wouldn't) and they have the best cold performance from what I've experienced.
@@rhysrhysrhysI just drive it a couple of times a week and yeah grip is what I need. Funny you mention the A052 as I was actually just checking them. Might go with them if they've good from cold.
@rhysrhysrhys what offset do your wheels have and what size are the A050's? I've got 15x8 +28 wheels and not sure of I should go 225 or drop down to 205 as they're a taller tyre and I don't want that much negative camber to make them fit wheel
What car is this?
EK4 Civic, the same car that is in all my other videos.
love the whole thing Rhys, and the footwork around the last bit was so good to watch!
Did you start out practising with sim racing? Trying to get better at driving myself and find I over brake a lot
Other than a few goes on friend's sims, I've never spent any driving on them. I'd say I'm a terrible sim driver. If your local tracks or clubs have driver coaches, it'd be a worthy exercise for them to observe and highlight some improvements before you development (or further development) some negative driving habits. Sharing your videos and data (racechrono for example) with other people with varying experiences can also be helpful.
That looks like a cool little fast flowing track mate. Do you have to be a member of the Gippsland car club to go there or is it multi club and how many times a year do they run? Regards Blair
Its a multiclub event run by the club based at the RAAF base (RACES). They run it four times a year. Next one is 15th September and then 1st December. Entries for September are up on the GCC website - gippslandcarclub.com.au/supp-regs/
Have measured re71rs & crs. Which one more wider?
I've never had the same size in both. 225/45/15 in a CRS is wider than a 205/50/15 RE71RS as you'd expect. CRS has a more square profile, so you might get a little more width from a 205/50/15 compared to a RE71RS.
super smooth driving, well done!
That things got excellent grip! Tyres, wheels, coilovers, wing?
It was quite fun with this setup! Hoosier A7s on a 15*9&8 stagger, small wing and splitter. The car has always been on MCA Reds. Covid and now child/ren interrupted the aero development, so the car is now much simpler (and slower) for the time being
Nice driving mate
Dope
Bugger! Hopefully not too much damage and easy ish fix, glad you’re ok 👍
How do you differentiate the v1 to v2 ? Tyre suppliers are clueless in NSW about the updated model.
Anything made before 2023 is V1.
What engine are you running?
B16A2
@@rhysrhysrhys brilliant - it sounds great. Were you running C7 Improved Prod at Rob Roy? ✌️
Glad you're okay mate, could have been a lot worse. Seen far too many cars in worse shape after not getting that section right. It's the risk we all take when we push as hard as we do. Hope to see you back out there soon. Hang in there.
Could've been much worse at that part of the track. Hopefully the damage isn't too severe.
What could you have done better here?
I came in 6km faster than I had all day, so a little slower on entry could have meant more control. Also not focused on the cone on the track and looked to where I was going rather than there. Past that, I could have accelerated instead of braked when the rear stepped out and it could have straightened out. It could have also stepped out the other way and who knows where I would have ended up at a much faster pace than I hit the wall this time. Overall, considering the speed I lost the rear (145km), I think I came out of it quite well.
@@rhysrhysrhys Glad you got out of it unharmed with minimal damage.
who left that dang banana peel there ??! ! glad u r ok
that sucks but glad you are ok
Just glad you’re ok mate. Cars and barriers can be replaced.
Ahhh shit. I can feel your pain. Glad you're ok for it, I suppose it'll catch us all at some point.
Hope you and the car are ok That part of the track it could have been much worse
ouch
You did good, could have been a lot worst. What ya reckon happened on the corner? Looks like maybe oil or coolant on the left side of the track
I went in pretty deep as this was my first clear lap after dealing with frustrating traffic and I was keen to post a good lap. I don't think anything other than that sneaky cone was on the track.
You win some, you lose some. As long as you don't stop (pun not intended).
I haven't searched fishing boats on Marketplace yet...!
I’m looking at a set of CRS for my track-days. On 8.5x17 wheels I can get CRS in 235/40 or RE71rs. Also I could get A050 in 225/45. Not sure which would be faster on my ND MX5. 🤔
where?
"Private road" in Australia.
How do you think they would compare to A050 medium compound on track?
They'll be fastest the first and second laps, then get slower throughout the session. The drop off doesn't seem as dramatic as what I've seen from A052 or A050gs. I last drove on A050 mediums back in 2017, they always required a lap or so to get up to pace and then were fast for the whole session. Depends what you're after from a tyre. I do think A050m is the best tyre for smashing lap after lap after lap, especially because they are as fast down to the cords.
@@rhysrhysrhys OK. Thanks. I currently use A050s for sprint days. All I need is 1 quick lap per session. The CRS is a lot cheaper than the A050 in my size, so Im keen to give them a try.
"private road" more like penlink hahaha, Technically east link is private so send her on there
How is the sidewall stiffness on them? I currently am on the Yoko AD09's, which have pretty stiff sidewalls (which I like), but they are not the grippiest.
They feel stiffer than the RE71RS, especially on initial turn in.
Got a set to try on the i20N soon. Keen to see how much improvement over the rs4 they provide. (Im expecting 2+ secs at smsp)
this is getting me all randy
wouldn't want to run out of brakes across the finish line
I have a z4 and an ek hatch with a jdm b18c and it's still fun to drive
nicely done. Hopefully I'll finally make it to an even this year, keen to see what I can get out of my foz
Very nice, my first car was a -92 civic with D15B, it only had 90 hp but it was a blast to drive, and with its light body it wasnt that slow
stock b16a2? holy shit im so exited to try mine in a few days
Shorter 3/4/5 gears, but stock otherwise. A great engine!
Hi mate, enjoyed the 12 and 53 seconds of you talking about a tire. Was wondering if you experienced any wet weather on this tire, i'm in the USA and thinking about this tire for summer Autocross and weekend drives on an ND MX-5, not planning to running on winter at all but just curious about driving on an ocassional day if rain catches you outside. Thanks!
They are fine in the wet, no worse than any of the other performance tyres. I do a bit of road driving to and from the track, or through the hills and have no issues going out in the rain.
That was some smooth driving
What’s done to it?
Stock B16A2 with an exhaust (stock headers still in this video) Shorter 3/4/5 and 4.4 FD in gearbox.
sorry your bag was stolen. Was it stolen at a track day?
Nah, had a garage broken into many years ago!
Nice footwork rhys
How are these in the wet/damp? Currently running ar1 at the moment and looking at a052 but these sound great in the dry but can’t find many wet reviews of them - 52s are very good in the wet from feedback
We had an EXTREMELY wet hillclimb late last year and they pretty good. Quite predictable. I can't compare them to A052, but I've heard the same comments about them.
Jesse Street made a comment on his last Insta post about how bad they were in the wet, but he is comparing them to a wet compound tyre, so his view might be skewed.
I'm now on A052s and the A052 is much faster and grippier in the wet than the CRS. Very impressed with the A052 wet and cold performance after a wet hillclimb on the weekend.
Very sporting
