Hey! Any chance that discount code still working? I really like this style of tent, it looks sweet as! Love the review, it has really made me want to buy one as soon as possible! Cheers.
Oh yeah i’ll just sort it now. Gimmie two minutes and then follow the link again 👍🏻
Should be sorted now buddy
@@ChocChipTravels thank you so much!
Hi what cross bars weight do you need for this tent
The tent itself weighs 62kgs, so anything that’s rated for higher than that. I use Cruz Aero bars if that helps
Is it possible to close the ladder back up and fold it back up to the base of the tent and hold it in place with some kind of strap or clips to free up space in the living pod?
You could, however it might be easier just to remove the ladder. If you’re just talking about being down in the living pod and no one being up in the tent, you wouldn’t need the ladder to support the tent, so it might be easier to remove it temporarily than figuring out a way of strapping it up
Great review. I have also have a Navara but just with the standard pickup back on, is the XL too big to just go on the cab roof ?
Thank you 🙏🏻 No, not at all. I only push mine back slightly because i can. It’s more of an issue with the classic/cargo models as they’re a lot longer so you get more overhang. You could even mount it over the back bed on the navara if you wanted to 👍🏻
@@ChocChipTravels perfect. Thank you
Hi mate, I’ve just got a topper that is 5cm deep. When you fold it away do you fold the topper in half first before folding the tent up?
No i just fold mine over and let it bend with the fold… if that makes sense?
@@ChocChipTravels ok was just unsure if could do it that way, wether it would place some extra strain on the folding hinges. Just got a topper today so gonna pop it in soon and fingers crossed it closes with no issues 😂
@@TomClare-so2bl i think it would be 6 and 2/3’s as to how it’s folded in my opinion as it’s still occupying the same space?
Hi there, my awning only came with the spikes at the end of the legs? and nothing flat to put the legs on hard ground. Am I missing something?
The awning you have is a slightly modified design. The idea is that the spikes help the post hold better in soft ground which means the awning is less likely to move about in the wind 👍🏻
@@ChocChipTravels So what happens if I need to put it up on hard ground? Does it just have to balance on the spikes
@@ow8661 Hmm… I guess so?? If it was then moving around too much with the spikes on hard ground i’d maybe look at making something to sit the spikes on when on hard ground. Not sure what exactly. I’d have to give it some thought but you get what I mean
Looks a bit floppy. Would the guy ropes be better attached halfway down? Not at the top corner?
Potentially, but i don’t think there’s anywhere to attach them lower down (from what I can remember without looking at it). I’ve used it again since and tried tightening the bottom. I’m still running into the problem. Either: a) i have it so everything fully zips up, but that means the fabric is loose. b) i tighten up the panels by pulling them out a little more, but then the zips won’t close all the way down. I think in my case, it’s the height of my vehicle. I’ve got the taller pod, but i think my truck is higher than a normal car (for the shorter pod) and lower than a van/defender (for the taller pod)… so i’m somewhere in the middle, therefore the fabric is looser. That’s where i’m at now. As for the pod, i used it in France last week when it was raining and everything stayed bone dry inside. It was perfect in that sense
Thanks for the review! One question: How noisy was in the tent in the windy weather?
Noisy, but that’s the same for any tent. I got caught on a windy night in my old cargo once and that was windy too. Never any worries about it going anywhere though. I just put my headphones in and drifted off to sleep. Living pod again was noisy, but it wasn’t going anywhere. More than up to the job 👍🏻
I have just bought a tent box cargo 2.0 I’m supper excited and it’s all because of your channel so thank you 💯💯
Oh that’s amazing!! Glad i could help and I appreciate you letting me know 😊😊
Looks a great trip. Thanks for the tent reviews etc aswell. I luckily travel around europe for a living taking people on holiday on coaches, but we want to tour ourselves without a load of people, being able to stop in quiet spots like that would be ideal. found tentbox's and now im almost sold. Im leaning to the XL but need to check out the classic 2.0 first.
Thank you. Yeah XL’s a great tent, but the classic does have it’s pro’s. Decisions decisions 😊😊
Hi I have just bought this and there is no straps on the outside?
Hello. Yeah they changed the design of the outer cover last autumn so there’s no outer straps needed anymore. I know a few people have been getting in touch with Tentbox to send out some extra straps that will allow you to roll the cover up, so it might be worth giving them a shout if you’re missing those, although i couldn’t tell you what you should be looking for as i’ve never seen what they are
Another badly thought out rent box product that's exclusively aimed at no one who cooks sitting down and 2 people only. Since tent box will not engage with us camping families are min 4 usually. The fact its a 2 person set up may mean older couples and they need a back rest and stand to cook. Tent box design things the American way with blinkers.
Like I mentioned in the video though, if they made the kitchenbox any bigger, it would be too big to easily lift in and out of the vehicle. I do here what you’re saying though, but this is why there’s no such thing as the perfect product for everyone 👍🏻
£395 for a Very basic bit of fabric is hardly Good value for money!!!😡
I’d say a very basic bit of fabric is a bit of a stretch. If we were talking £395 for a tarp i’d be inclined to agree with you. You’ve got to remember, it’s a custom designed product and not generic so it will always come with a price tag given that it’s providing a solution to a specific problem. Plus, my experience with it so far tells me it’s well made. Certainly don’t feel like it’s going to fall to bits but i’ll happily hold my hands up if i’m wrong 🙌
Hey there! My partner and I are looking at Tentbox and have appreciated your videos. We came across this one and had a question around how many devices you're able to charge with the 600? We are hoping to charge 2-3 laptops (we work from home0, 2 phones, and a fridge to store food. I am curious what you've used the 600 for and it seems like it has enough capacity to run these for a couple of days or if we should go for a 1500. Thank you!
Hello!! 😊 So for charging laptops and phones etc, the 600 would be fine. I’m about to take mine away for 5 days and it’ll do me all that time for that. If you’re bringing the compressor fridge into the mix and need it for a few days, i’d definitely go for the bigger one 👍🏻
@@ChocChipTravels Appreciate the quick response and the information! Sounds like the bigger one will give a bit of a buffer and the drive while charging will be a huge help. Been enjoying your videos, thank you for all the information!
@@dannymaupin5498 No problem. You’re better having too much than too little for sure. Nothing worse than running out 😊
There is two way to get it, live in Germany or GB. Wanted one but can’t buy it…
It’s all nice, and great review. But i feel the whole point of tent box is to travel light and keep on the go. I think a big ground tent would be better.
I completely agree. I think the living pod has a time and a place. Like I mentioned in the video, it increases the set up time which goes against that sort of “pop-up” Tentbox idea. I can also imagine that if you’re used to setting up a classic or cargo that takes 30 seconds (which is one of the selling points of those models) then adding an additional 10 minutes to put up the living pod could seem like a quite a lot of extra time/faff to some people. I can see the value of having both options though and I do think the living pod is a good bit of kit. I’m certainly not against the idea of having a ground awning though. I will definitely be using my Tentbox without the living pod as I do love my Tentbox and the convenience of it, but there will also be occasions when I’ll use it with the living pod 👍🏻 Appreciate you watching 🙏🏻
They should have made an air inflatable tent box drive away awning. Like you said in the review your stuck at camp if used with the tent.
@@delboy7957 true, although they might not have seen the point in making one as there are quite a few on the market already. Who knows though, there might be one in the pipeline given that there is a demand for them. We shall see 👍🏻
At least peg it down with some tension, you didn’t even try as you can see the front door isn’t even taught horizontally let alone vertically… review is not even worth listening to if you can’t set it up correctly!
I tried a few different ways, some of which tightened the pod. However, I found the panels opening up as the “ tightness” of the panels was forcing the zips to open up, more so when it was windy. I’ll certainly keep at it trying to perfect it, but those are my honest findings so far
@@ChocChipTravels move the zips to a horizontal part of the door, not on the vertical thus the zip can’t be pulled open…
@@riddioughp Just thought i’d give an update on this. I used it last week in France and tightened the bottoms as much as possible. Same problems. Couldn’t get it any better as much as I tried (and I tried). I’m thinking it’s the height of my vehicle combined with the taller pod that’s causing the issue. The pod’s a “little” tall for my pickup, so i can’t close up all the panels AND have the fabric tight. For me it’s one or the other. Tried several ways and couldn’t get it tighter
Nice review Chris, i seen one of these on an lite XL at a camp site back in February and knew it was just too small for me, the wife and kids, after some searching i am going to purchase a Coleman Cortes instead, which gives us space to cook and plenty of room to sit under cover if the weather is crap plus it has a ground sheet sewn in too. Appreciate the time and effort you put into this to give all the features and details
Great review, We were thinking of buying one but opted for the berghaus air shelter which after watching this was the better option in my opinion, it just looks way to flimsy and dark.
Thank you 🙏🏻 Out of interest, how is the Berghaus?
@@ChocChipTravels love it , We found out that we can attach one side of the berghaus to the top of the roof tent to act as a canopy when it rains.
When I got my tentbox, it didn’t come with outer straps, apparently I’ve got to contact tentbox and they are sending out different straps..
Hello! 👋🏻 Yes they changed the design last year so the outer cover no longer needs the straps. I believe that the extra straps they’re sending out is so you can fold up the cover while the tent is open 👍🏻
@@ChocChipTravels thanks for explaining! Loving the helpfulness of your channel buddy!
@@markplenty2631 Thank you, I appreciate that 🙏🏻
Thank you for another informative video. Very well explained and put together.
Thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks for the informative video.
Hi Chris, thanks for the video, youve earned yourself a subscriber. Quite a few times in the video you made a big emphasis on it being light, portable and 1 person able to take it out of the boot, so personally i would have loved the video to be a few minutes longer and see you either take it out the boot and set it up at the start or pack it back away and put it in the boot at the end. Thanks.
That’s good to know. I’ll definitely consider showing that in the next one. I’ve got a bad lower back to the ease of portability is important to me and i wouldn’t say it’s lite but i can lift it, open and close it easily without any problems 👍🏻👍🏻
It doesn't necessarily have to be you that packs it up and lifts it up, it would just be good to see it packed up and inside a boot to get an idea of how much room it'll take when packed up. Thanks regardless though. It's a great video. @@ChocChipTravels
Let me confirm about the measurement 183 cm and 240cm. Does it mean the side you put the ladder it measures 183cm width and the other side the length is 240cm?
So yeah 183cm wide, 240cm length when opened and 120 length when closed up 👍🏻

Where can you put your shoes? Where are pockets for putting shoes ?😊
I just put mine down at the bottom of the tent. Some people store them in a bag that hangs on the outside but I just keep mine in the tent with me 👍🏻
Thank you, but seems the bag for putting shoes outside tent is small and shoes can't fit in. And it is only one bag, when it carries two people, the other person will have no where to put shoes
@@edwinalexander1170 Yeah those boot bags aren’t huge. We used to have one with our Cargo though and never had a problem. You could use two bags if you have two people, but we just put them up in the tent with us and hang them at the bottom end so they’re up and out of the way 👍🏻

Do you mean the top bit that you essentially zip the front of the room to?
that goes in the aluminium front channel that you zipped off separately
I’ve got everything ready, when I phoned up to insure my tentbox though the guy made it sound like if I left it unattended for 5 mins, I wouldn’t see it again.. so I’ve bought the alarm and the smart water type thing.. I’ve gotta try this route one year, prob next year now lol I’m skint 😂😂

Great video 👌 weve just purchased the xl with the side awning part and cant wait 😁 your video made me spend my money lol 😂

Great info Chris .. got me thinking ...camp with 2 man tent ...and considering campervan ...but running costs are not cheap ...but on my Honda Jazz would be good ... obviously have cost to buy and roof bars etc ...but that would outweigh cost of running a campervan for everyday use ..as my Jazz is relatively cheap to run ...👍
Yeah, campervans are just so expensive these days. At least with the roof tent you can just run it on your normal car and yes, there will be a slight loss in mpg but it’s still nothing compared to the cost involved with running a campervan
Great info cheers 👍

Top reviews! You have it open over the side, will it open over the rear of a van? Can't seem to pin down an answer!
Thank you 🙏🏻 Yes, it can be mounted off the back. You've got to take the bottom rails off and then drill new holes to align them to run the other way. It's been done several times by a few people in the Tentbox community. General feedback has been that it's a faff on, but needs doing if that's what you want to do. The only thing i'm not sure on is whether it voids your warranty or not. You'd have to check that with Tentbox

I’ve got a camping table with two bottle gas single stoves.. but it’s a nice little thing..also if you leave a bag of ice in the bottom of the cool box the food easily lasts until the next day..that’s what I’ve done
That’s a great idea about the ice 👍🏻
Thanks for this video, I’m getting a tentbox lite 2.0 next month!!
Amazing!! You’ll love it. Be sure to use my code to get your discount 👍🏻 Have you decided on a colour?
@@ChocChipTravelsunfortunately I found your video after I’ve booked and paid for my tent to be installed, I’ve gone for the slade grey and I’m just wondering about the security screws or the alarm that I’ve found on their website, what do you think 🤔
@@markplenty2631 So the upside to security screws is that they’ll deter the average chancer. The downside is that if someone is set on taking it, they’ll likely damage your car in the process of removing the tent by force, by either angle grinder or crow bar. Then you’ve got another problem dealing with car insurance. The alarm is great. Hella loud and will be a great audible warning/deterrent to attract attention and hopefully put the committed thief off. Ultimately, insure it for piece of mind 👍🏻
@@ChocChipTravels thank you for your advice!
Sharpen that knife man before you take a finger off, between that and the crocs I just don't know 😁
Yeah my wife hates the crocs. Can’t put a price on comfort though 😂
Hi mate, great review and instantly subscribed. I was wondering whether you had a link or name for the products you use to mount your iPad to the tent? Thanks in advance!
Thank you. Appreciate you taking the time to comment 🙏🏻 I sure do. There’s some links in the description to the various products i use, but here’s the link to the ipad mount. Just be sure to order the exercise bike version 👍🏻 www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BN1PKDGT/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_JT959443QEAVKCF3ZCFP?linkCode=ml1&tag=chocchiptrave-21
@@ChocChipTravels thanks for the quick reply. The two options seem to both be iPad holders it’s just one is for a mic stand and the other is for an exercise bike?
@@calwtsn Yeah i got the exercise bike one for the attachment grip. Which tent model do you have?
Seems like a great product and concept but I’ve always liked having a more interchange setup. Being able to chose the stove table and chair etc
I get that. We used to place our cadac stove on our tailgate or our tire table depending on our set up. There’s definitely a place in the market for this, 100%, but despite it’s convenience factor i feel some people would find it restrictive if they are used to a different setup
Have you a discount code for when purchasing the kitchen as the code currently is just for tents. Thanks
Unfortunately not my friend, unless it’s purchased with a tent, at which point the discount applies to everything I believe
great review and looks an epic solution if you've not got alot of room in the boot of your car.
Yeah it’s ideal for that. Mine just sat nicely on my back seat and it’s easy life in and out 👍🏻
I like the idea you can chuck this in the car and go; everything neatly packed down and handy. What sort of weight will a stool take, are they strong enough? 😮
Yeah it’s great 👍🏻 Not 100% sure on the stool weight limit but i’m 100kgs at the moment and it was more than fine. They seem well built and quite sturdy
No idea why you made it into my suggestions but to be fair I'm not into over landing but that looks awesome for what it is, granted I'm not into what it is but I'm a trained carpenter who's more into hiking and bushcraft so I already have an excess of camp cookware. But if you're into this kinda thing even I can tell you that's worth every penny if you're starting from scratch as a Coleman dual burner stove alone is like £200 new on its own and if I was building a kit like this that's where I'd start. P.s. I've started mountain biking again and want/need a truck with a tent box so I'll probably make something like this one day lol
Yes how random, but thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🙏🏻😊 It is good value considering other high quality alternatives start at £500+. Hopefully i’ll see you in your absolutely 100% needed truck and tentbox at some point.
@@ChocChipTravels if you ever head out green lanning in the peak district you might find me rocking up late on but I don't do camping sites man but I'll probably be the long haired fool with a smoker, pizza oven or mobile wok burner cooking up something wicked .....if you find me pull up a kitchen box lol
Good review as you say all down to personal preference
Thank you. Yeah I don’t think we’ll ever find the perfect solution for everybody
You could always take a disposable barbecue to use as well as the kitchen gives you like the 2 burner solution
@@pauljefferson4473 100% and I mean let’s be honest, sometimes you want to cook on a BBQ regardless of what stove you have. There’s no replacement for that BBQ smell when cooking burgers 🤤
@@ChocChipTravels think it would be a good mix of kitchen box and barbecue
It looks good for 2 people camping out, which I assume is what Tentbox were going for with the design. Small and compact. Would fit nicely into the living pod etc. I think for a bigger family, a 2 gas burner would be better but would of course take up more space. I think for wild camping like you're doing in this video it's absolutely fine and does the job it was designed to do perfectly. Decent sized work space and a single burner. Very good, but........SEASON YOUR BEEF YOU HEATHEN!!!!! 😂
Haha! No, not the beef! 😂
Great video looks like you had a fab time! Recently bought a lite Xl 2.0 for the top of my modified Shogun. My partner an I are looking at a similar route ending in the south of France for a few days. What was the total duration of your trip? The Switzerland part look incredible with amazing scenery! 100 be adding that onto my route! Will consider the app you mention for over night stays. Again, good job with the vid, if decide to document ours ill drop you a link with new areas 😁
