Surprisingly, not one of her class of carriers has been retained to turn into a museum. And since her entire class is conventionally powered, that means that probably there will never be a supercarrier turned into a museum ship. The organizations that tried and failed to get the Kitty Hawk and Kennedy carriers were unable to raise enough money.

Never forget.

A book, "Troubled Waters" about a night on her that ended the '72' cruise is absolutely worth a read. Get it!!

Served aboard with VF114 1963-64. First to be sent to Vietnam. Great ship. Will be missed by all that Served aboard.

As a former Midway sailor, I can understand the feeling those that served on Kitty Hawk can have.

Thank you for your efforts here on Kitty Hawk brother. I was Ship's Company 1982-1985. AIMD, IM3 DIV., Work Center 630, port side forward in the tunnel.

I was a crew member onboard the USS Kitty Hawk CV 63 in the early 80's. Remembering so many special times, especially the collision with the Soviet Union Victor Class Submarine. Many great memories.

I was attached to VAQ-136 and was aboard the Kitty Hawk during the 1973 and 1975 West Pacs. Never will forget the horrible engine room fire.

A shame not a single conventionally powered supercarrier has been preserved. Not possible with the later nukes.

Its to bad they didn't make it a Museum! 🥰

4 year Vietnam Era US Navy Veteran…..No Sea duty….42 mos onboard CNO….joined Reserves in 1979….2 week Active Duty…August 1979….spent a week aboard the USS Sellers….DDG 11….Charles Adams Class Destroyer….Sellers was one of the Navy Ships involved in the Cuban Blockade of 1962….I got to spend a week aboard 450 feet of a US Navy Kickass Destroyer….I Belonged There!!!

It would have been nice to see her next to the Midway in San Diego as a museum and tourist attraction.

My home 1996-1998 - did the WestPac and left just before she went to Japan. My ONLY tour as "ship's company" rather than as a squadron aircrewman - good memories, bypassed Hawaii, on to Hong Kong, Singapore, Bahrain, several stops in the UAE, Perth, Hobart, Hawaii and Home to San Diego... first cruise with females aboard

I hope someone had enough sense to save something from her to use as a memorial in Kitty Hawk NC! Like a propellor, anchor or maybe her name plate on her stern.

I was onboard 1974 to 1977 V4 division known as the Grapes was there through the dry dock in Bremerton 76-77 actually met my wife in Bremerton and got married during that time

I was on the "Hawk " 1971 through 1975, S-5 division,berthing below forward mess deck, I was a steward serving air officers wardroom2 forward between catapults 1 and 2, loved Subic Bay and Olongapo city

I remember heading out from NAVSTA San Diego and seeing 63 and 64 on the islands of the USS Kitty Hawk and USS Constellation moored at NAS North Island. Great ships and they will be missed in the future!

I served abroad the mighty Hawk from January 1965 to September 1968.three tours to Vietnam. Mighty proud to have served abroad her. Salute to the all mighty Hawk.

With all her glories, wish that they will preserve her.

I had the honor of serving onboard this beast 2007 and 2008 (prep for Decommission). Sailed her from Yokosuka, Japan to Bremerton Washington. Combat Systems Dept. Radio room. It was sad to see her go. I worked with a very good crew that will have life long memories. Life on this ship was a challenge, but one that was well worth it in the end. Sayounara. Kitty Hawk. May your memories live forever!!!!
