Hayden's Bare Bones Garage
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 22 ก.ย. 2011
Hello everybody! My name is Hayden Clark I am here to help you get back that drive to get out into the garage and get working on your projects. There is nothing like being able to bring a dead car back to life. I know that life has a tenancy to get in the way and keep us from progressing forward the way we would like. I hope that I can help change that for the people who follow me on TH-cam. I'm here to entertain, support, motivate, inform and be a positive influence to others in the world. Life is too short to let fear hold you back from doing the things that truly make you happy.
FINALLY!!! Malibu Gets A Budget Built Small Block.
The Malibu finally gets a new used motor that was rebuilt on a budget by yours truly! We also get to pair that new motor with a Muncie 4 speed manual transmission! Three pedals are coming soon! Getting the motor in the car will set us up to be able to finish a lot of little details the car needs to run and drive. We are getting closer to the end goal everyday!

Me ouedes indicar donde conseguiste los repuestos?
Muy interesante y profesional gracias por compartir
Was going to take it to a shop cause I hate wiring, but now I'm pretty sure I got this
@@andrewwagner942 Hell yeah! You definitely got this!
I am working on my 86 dually... I have no power to headlight switch
Figure it out?
@@razorsazors no. I don't get much time to work on my stuff
I assume it has an original wiring harness in it. From some research I was doing, apparently there might be some fusible links down by the starter. I’m not sure where exactly it would be, but it might be worth peeking around in that area. And then it’s always a good idea to check all the grounds. On a 68 chevelle I worked on the dimmer switch would ground out on the floor of the car and blow the headlight fuse so maybe check to see if the dimmer on the floor is getting power or not. Short of those things you’re gonna have to patiently chase wires from the switch to the fuse block and from the block to headlights and check any and all grounds you come across.
@@HaydenClarkbbg i might just run my own new usable link for headlight switch... in an easily accessible place so I can check it easier... wiring is starting to get old and brittle in these squarebodys
@@workingmansrestorations7071 I have no dash lights. So driving in the dark everything's pitch black I haven't done any troubleshooting, other than knowing that pulling my light knob and twisting in any fashion only gets the floor(dome, courtesy?) lights to come on when twisted all the way, and headlights come on as normal. I'm gonna replace that part right off the back, as it's gritty as hell to twist and doesn't feel right. It's one of those problems that is a problem itself, and may host other problems. Anyways, the quare body forums are really good at giving you the circuity details so you can run around with a multimeter. Should be able to find where your short is on an hour. Only problem, if it's a fuse that went out, it very well could be because your wiring harness is rubbing somewhere
Was awesome, very helpful, thanks
Is it safe for paint?
No I would get wax made for paint
Nice mon!
I have a 85 c10 so when turning on the switch my headlights come on but my gauge, dimmer and running lights don’t. Also my left blinker stopped working. my dome light Is out as well have any tips ? I just put new tailights in yesterday and it’s a bummer I can’t see them glow like I wanted
What's the latest?
That I gotta get my butt back in the garage and keep going on the Malibu. I have plenty to do and plenty of content to make of it. Also there is a new project that will make its way onto the scene but I won’t be going super deep into that car till the Malibu is running and driving. I’ve got plenty more to come. Thanks for watching!
When you want to sell the car, hit me up..
It won’t be for sale anytime soon.
You also skipped over the hard part of getting the little bezel off the dashboard with some kind of a spanner wrench or something, the rest is a piece of cake
My truck has been owned by several people before i owned it. It’s very likely that the piece you’re referring to is missing from my truck.
Love Malibu builds , what do you think you'll be getting for horsepower out of that small block when you're all done ?
It’s all stock, so with the intake, carb, and headers and I plan on putting on it, it might make 250??? It won’t be anything to right home about.
@@HaydenClarkbbg yeah I bet it's going to sound great though thanks for the reply
Beautiful 😊
Great F in Video. About to put the front end on my Camaro and some of the stuff you said applies great job
Glad you found it helpful! Good luck getting your car together!
I NEED HELP WITH AN 81 c10…. Soon as you hook the battery up all the lights come on
All of the lights as in headlights, marker lights, dash lights and interior lights?
Looking sexy bro
Yessir awsome man. I love you videos and your energy man, I have my own Malibu project that I'm about to drop a small block into so it was nice seeing you do the same.
Thanks a lot man! I really appreciate it!!
Whooo!!! Freaking love it bro!!!! I'm excited you're excited half of what you say goes straight over my head but I'm here for it.
Awesomeness!
Great video!
Good to see you up and about again. I hope the Engine is coming together well.
Well I think it was worth building a cheap small block before build the big block. I’ve already learned my first lesson! 😂😂
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Gday mate Just putting my 78 back together and was wondering if you could tell me if the wiring harness runs arcross the top of radiatior support from left to right headlights as i want it to look same as factory set up. Thanks
Yes it does run from left to right. It runs on the bottom side of the top portion of the core support. So as it’s runs across the front of the car you really can’t see it. Hope that helps!
Fucking beauty Thanks mate
Your vid helped out a lot in hanging my doors. At first, I used an engine hoist as a second hand. It was a bit frustrating but I got the passenger door on. Tried your method it cut the install time in half.
Awesome! Glad the info was helpful for you!
How did the uppers and lowers ride
Not sure yet. Haven’t had a motor in it yet to find out. The last video I put out of the car is it’s current condition. I’ve been putting the motor together for it and collecting parts.
@HaydenClarkbbg I have a 78 El Camino so I'm in the same debate as u are
Love those rims
i have brake lights , high beams, and blinkers all the way around but no running lights any idea what i should be looking at on my 83 square body?
So it sounds like you had a similar problem I did. I would check the headlight switch and make its wired the correct way for your park lights to come on. Or something could be wrong with the switch.
Could be the switch, but I'd check the grounds first. There's a ton of them on these, almost a ground for every light. Good luck!
I'm having almost the same issue original wiring harness all the lights work except my parking lights and I've replaced the switch with another switch from a another Chevy that I know works what could be the issue
I would check grounds at the light socket and also make sure power is getting from the switch the the light. Double check fuses. Easy place to start.
Good content. Keep laughing. Nice video
Exelente tus vídeos hermano saludos desde Venezuela
Which one is for the brake lightsv
The brake lights have their own circuit that is run off the brake light switch that makes contact with the brake pedal.
Can anyone tell me what to check if my headlights won’t come on? I’ve changed the dimmer switch and the headlight switch!! It worked for a day then came on and off , now I’ve got nothing but parking lights and blinkers!! Also you did a great job getting this beauty back running!!
Thank you! So on your headlights, it’s always good to start by checking the fuses. Then from there check to make sure there is power coming from the fuse block to the switch then drone the switch to the headlights themselves.
Thank you for the information given. My truck has the same problem looking forward to when you replace the door handle.
I wish I found your channel a few months ago✌🏼 II snapped a couple of the clips Added a new toolset to my collection Plastic clip pry set👍🏻👍🏻

Is there anything specific you would want to see or just anything square body related.
Hey I also have a 78 Malibu and with ur help I’m rebuilding it can u tell me the front lights wire harness where did u get a new one from
I will be installing a Painless Performance Wire Harness. It will include the the headlight light harness as well. But if you need just the headlight light harness, they sell it seperately.
@@HaydenClarkbbg I called painless they don’t have it can you send me the part number.
@@ReelBonding333 are you doing stock headlights?
@@HaydenClarkbbg yes
I’m asking a lot of questions because I’m doing a frame off restoration and I find your videos inspiring and knowledgeable
4 months ago eh, the race is on!
I love this Man 🫡
Thanks buddy!
Less goooo
I got a 1980 El Camino and I came across your channel. As you know it's about the same as the Malibu. You're funny and showing some good information in your own way. Helping me out along the way. Keep it up man!
Hell yeah that’s awesome!! Thanks for the compliment and I’m glad it’s helping!
Dude, I've got the same car. This is the exact same rabbit hole I went down lol.
Hayden, How can I send u, some picks of my car?
Dude? Do you have an update on your 454 from the machine shop?
I haven’t updated about it because I don’t have all the parts yet. And I would like to build all in one go. Rather than here or there. But it’s done and ready to be assembled.
@@HaydenClarkbbg Cool.... I understand, I just noticed when you post about ur Malibu, I feel u get more hits on ur Channel.. I've been on mine for years, because I travel alot, & the guy who chopped & tucked the bumper's took like 2 & 1/2 years, because he only worked on it when his business slowed down, The guy that did the motor took 4 years, & now the guy doing the factory sun roof, has had my car for a year! So I have learned to be patient, because if you push people, the job comes out crappie! So that's what happens when you pick the best in there field just got too wait. If I ever do another car??? I'll do it way better... But that's why I enjoy ur Channel so much. Thank you, for the quick reply!
You bet! I’m glad you’re enjoying the channel. I have a lot more planned for the Malibu I just been working a lot lately. You can reach DM me on Instagram if you have that @Haydensbarebonesgarage.
I have a 2 door 1980 literally car is mint has all glass and chrome has a lil surface rust and blown transmission seats are mint just needs a dash can't wait to start working on it again
Thank you so much for sharing everything you did. I'm on a mission.
I have the exact year, engine, and color. I diagnosed it with a paperclip. Do you know the paperclip trick?
That’s really cool! I do know the paper clip trick. That’s how I figured out the different codes it was throwing.
Any updates?
I’m currently working on the next video of the for the Malibu. It will be fixing rust and such in the roof.
How do you take the top back seat off.?
Once you unhook the bottom seat cushion, there are to bolt at the base of the seat back. Take those out then lift the seat back up off of the hooks that hold it to the back panel of the car.
@@HaydenClarkbbg thanks I'm in Wisconsin
Anytime!
Cool car kid u know alot for a.guy who doesn't do it for a living a have an 81 Elkey with a factory 4 speed my self please keep making those vidios
I have a 1919, 1921 and 1923 Nash 6 engines. All have oil pumps. What they do not have is oil PSI to the rods or the rocker shaft. There are spring loaded ball bearings in holes at the top of the rockers that you use a oil can to lube every 100 miles. And you oil the push rods at the same time. Why did you add the China dam to the top of the cylinder head? Did you run a oil line from the oil pump line that feeds the spray bar in the oil pan up the drain backs to oil the rockers? Also if you did not plug the hole between the lower block water jacket and top jacket found in the center of the block, the head will crack 😉
