I quit teaching after 20 years!

Teaching has become a very difficult field. There seems to be more demands and less pay for our teachers, but that isn't the whole reason for my quitting education. In this video I share some of my issues with education, a small truth about my family, and my love for the TH-cam community.

What's the REAL Point of Scottish Festivals Anyway?
มุมมอง 25หลายเดือนก่อน
This video shares a brief history of the Scottish festival in America. Why they started, why they continue, and what they have to offer even those who do not share any Celtic heritage. A special thanks to the Ulster Scots historians for sharing their knowledge, the US Library of Congress for publicizing its data on immigration patterns into the United States, and the Longs Peak Scottish and Iri...
What is cottagecore?
มุมมอง 45หลายเดือนก่อน
While trying to figure out my personal style I came across the idea of cottagecore, which is an aesthetic that centers around provincial living and a return to the land philosophy. I wanted to look a little deeper into this movement and see if there was something more to it. In this video we look at the aesthetic, the history of the cottage, and the potential future of the aesthetic movement.
Practical and Magical History of House Naming
มุมมอง 25หลายเดือนก่อน
Cottagecore is a thing that seems to be here to stay. We see it in fashion, on reddit, all over the internet, and now it is starting to take over popular media. While traveling in Europe I noticed that all of these cottages had something in common, they all had names. Now I being a curious person wanted to understand a little bit more of the why these buildings were all named, or wearing name t...
what we can learn from a flower
มุมมอง 25หลายเดือนก่อน
Plants are amazing teachers. They live in such a way that we could really thrive if we followed their example. This video talks about how a plant grows, what it takes for a plant to bloom, and most importantly what we as humans can learn from the entire process. If the entire world strived to be more like plants than the entire world may actually be a better place to live.
Escaping the trap of our mobile phones

While on a trip to London I came to the realization that we are so wrapped up in our need for technology that we are unable to fully understand and appreciate life. During this trip I was able to sit and concentrate on what really matters and the need to find connection outside of our fingertips.

20 years is a long time
I've been there man! Just keep on keepin' on!
Thank you. I appreciate the kind words.
Wow great video. Maybe one question is when you quit teaching were you afraid of whats next? Maybe you did answer in video, I may have not heard.
I am still afraid of what is next, but it was definitely a big fear as I was finally quitting. It really hit me that all I had known professionally was about to end which actually felt a bit identity shattering. The lead up to leaving was the most difficult part of the whole endeavor.
Another topic I’ve never given much thought to until now. Great vid!
Thank you. This one was fun to do even if it felt a bit awkward to pull off. I always loved the story of how tea came to Europe as it is such an interesting history.
I enjoy your musings! Keep going 🙏
What a charming video. I really enjoyed watching this. You seem like a genuinely humble and down to earth person. Thank you for sharing!
P.S. If you haven't found her channel already, you may enjoy Bernadette Banner. :o)
Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate you taking the time to reach out and comment it really made my weekend.
Our local park, Victoria Park is a tribute to this way of life. Opened by Queen Victoria as a place for lower classes to bathe and enjoy outdoor space together with lots of pathways, cricket fields, rugby / soccer fields and bowls greens. Really nice video.
Nice, next time I’m in town I’ll have to check it out. I tend to stick to Hyde and St James Park when I’m over that way but a throwback to 1800s community sounds fun. Thanks for the feedback
Great video. I like this movement.
I got turned onto this movement about a year ago and fell in love. I actually think it might be one of the reasons I chose the main topic of this channel. Glad you enjoyed the video.
❤❤❤❤
"Mobile phones" are actually a "mobile prision" and I am glad that you escaped the matrix by self realisation rather than getting absorbed by prision of morden entertainment algorithms.
Thank you. I appreciate the thoughts and agree with the prison analogy. It made for a very meaningful trip
I enjoyed going down path. Great topic! Our UK house is named Dulcet and our Greek home is named Sweet William. It definitely brings a new layer to the building. Well edited video as well 🫡
Thank you so much for the comment. I really enjoyed learning more about the naming traditions and where they came from. It is really fun how a simple name can change the way we look at things. I love the depth of connection that names bring.
Never fake it... Love it bro!
Thanks man.
Deep roots and good energy… I like this.
Thank you for the kind words.
Problem is this is posted on youtube :D
As I hit publish I actually had that thought. I sometimes forget that TH-cam is mostly accessed through the mobile app
Hello I might have a strange question maybe . I have a friend who she's about to be married and grown up was friends with her grandmother. There's a piece of cloth that is 50 inches wide and maybe like 10 or 11 yards long or so which the grandmother had and done a pattern work and embroidery edges on when she was alive. Im her bridesman. So the groom to be with permission of the mother came up with an idea if I would wear that cloth as a great kilt just for the wedding (her background is Scottish) my height is 5foot 6in From what I understand that the cloth is not wide enough. Is it possible to grand kilt the cloth just for the wedding, in a way to surprise my friend to had a representation of the grandmother at the wedding. Is there a way to pull it off Appreciate any advice Thank you.
That is an amazing idea. I just took my tape measured to my kilt and found that it is a little over 50 inches wide, but definitely on par with what you are describing. I think you definitely should be able to make a good kilt out of it. I know my video is not the greatest at showing how to wear a great kilt so I would recommend doing a tutorial video from USA kilts, they have a great tutorial video on their account. I would also recommend getting a really strong kilt belt as 10 yards is a lot of fabric to hold up for an entire wedding. You may be able to use a country western belt and buckle, but I don’t think they have as wide of a strap nor as strong of leather for what you are hoping. If you need any links or for me to do a more in depth video on kilt accessories let me know. I am very excited for both your friend and yourself on this special day.
@@PureLifePursuit pretty cool man I definitely greatly appreciate your input As long as my knees are covered then technically culturally I'm perfectly okay 😁 My background is from Pakistan we do have something that's like a kilt it's called a lungi . It's definitely much longer (like side note fun fact the biggest supplier in manufacturers of bagpipes to the world is from Pakistan and they make a lot of the ready-made kilts apparently) I was looking up at some information and looks like there's like a a pin that you also put but it looks like it's just a display on The kilt. And I think there's a second pin that you put on your shoulder to connect the front and back section sort of like a lapel not sure what that section is called. And then the sporing. I can definitely find a country western belt I'm in Southern California so it's easy to find all that 😀 That's something I would not have thought of offhand cuz that's a lot of weight and fabric to be held up for the entire day. So I find a good heavy duty belt with a good strong buckle. Thank you appreciate you man.
You escaped the trap on that journey. I imagine that moment will stick with you for a very long time.
Well wrapped! Great video man, I learned something here.
Thanks man, that video was a lot of fun to make. Definitely out of my normal comfort zone
Solid advice. Pivot, adjust, retune but never stop.
Sometimes something that sounds so simple is one of the most difficult things. Hard to manage expectations when chasing dreams. Thanks for the view and the comment my friend.
Very cool!
Thank you for this video.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video man. It’s always good to remind ourselves that our reality is completely different to the next person’s.
Thank you so much. This video took a while to put together but I really enjoyed researching this one.
Congratulations!!!
Thank you so much. It has been a long journey.
Interesting ideas. I like it! 😊
Thank you. I have found a lot of joy in researching these topics.
Thanks for this! I'll have to give these a try.
Thanks for the comment. I have found great joy in practicing art as a way of journaling recently and really love the freedom of expression it gives me. I'm glad you are gonna try some of these out.
I really liked this video. I need to work on this.
Thank you, this is definitely something that I need to work on as well. Although I am getting better.
You don't have to write every day. Yes, I have been writing for years and I completely agree with you. Why make it a chore. Write when you feel like it. That's when you enjoy it. 👍💕
It took me so long to figure that out. I grew up being told that journals are important and that I should write in them so my kids could see me. It almost felt fake when I forced myself to do it, like you said a chore which stifled my authentic voice. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
I really like your prompts! Especially #1
Thank you. I really enjoyed researching this video and I am glad that you found some useful information in it.
The reasons you gave for keeping a journal were compelling, practical and original.
Thank you. I had a lot of fun researching these prompts and I am glad that you enjoyed it.
great video!
Thank you!
We need to define success. When I am Safe! WOW
Your correct you have to love your journal or you won't pick it up.
I found that if I don’t love what I’m writing in I just don’t use it as much. It definitely resonated with me when I read that.
6:20 What a great tip! A letter to myself!
Thank you, that was one of the most powerful things that I have learned during my life.
