How we built a feed bunk! For Less that buying one
มุมมอง 2396 หลายเดือนก่อน
Over the teat we have bought feed bunks. All but one have either had to be replaced and or fixed to last here on the farm. From just not study enough to be in with cattle, or they can't take the abuse of the animals for any length of time. We had been looking into buying some sturdy "old fashion" wood feed bunks for a while, and then decided why don't we just make them. So we checked the prices...

      I try my best to have our cows be calm and fairly tame. Almost all of them like a good scratch and a kind work. The hope is for me a least, that the calves will see their mothers intact with me, and it will instill a calmer tendency towards me as well. So far so good, some take longer than others, but this helps them stay calmer in other situations as well.

      She loves being part of everything, and at least at this stage all she wanted to do was swing, and so she is a part of everything and swing at the same time. It does take a lot of effort, to make sure she is having fun and staying warm/cool depending on the weather, but it so worth it to know she is living her best life, and get to see and learn about all the things going on to.

    You don’t see solid black lambs too often. So adorable, and way to go showing kids they can contribute and help at any age. So many parents feel frustrated by the extra time and patients it takes to include them but if you teach them while they think it’s fun and exciting they will have better work ethics later. There is an education farm life gives you that you cannot learn anywhere else. It really is the best life! Hope you remain happy and blessed. 😊

    • @wildassfarm9053
      @wildassfarm9053 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We do what we can, we both grew up on a farm, and I will agree completely. You learn things on a farm that you can’t learn anywhere else. Not only work ethic, but time management, and of course a love for what we do. Farm life is full of stressors, Parenthood is full of stressors, but watching them learn something new and grow as an individual, is nothing short of amazingly priceless. Both my girls have had an interesting young like. My oldest had a big heart condition, and has a lot of triggers form her many hospital stays, and my youngest has Down Syndrome, she is in the video. I plan to fill their life with as much raw information as I can. Teaching them that it’s not all bad, and not all good, but definitely worth the ride. Hopefully it will help them in this big thing we call life. Thank you so much for your comment, super positive one at that! Don’t get too many comments, I look forward to each and everyone. but the positive ones are by far the best so thanks again and have a great day!

We wanted to use a different mineral than they carried a few years ago, and would have been charged an extra 30$ a bag after buying and delivering the mineral to the coop just for them to mix it in our feed. I understand they need to make money to. But grinding and mixing our own is turning out to save a little and learn a lot!

      Moon beams are a F1 and F2 crosses on the cimani. I love the black sheen that the black chickens have. Also an interesting tip bit about black chickens, They are less prone to arial predator attacks . From the air they look like crows and so the eagles and hawks are less likely to go after them.

    • @wildassfarm9053
      @wildassfarm9053 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because that’s where she felt comfortable, our OG cows are great moms and have great instincts. The pack is a clean place. If the barn has no other animals in it; It is actually colder in the barn than outside. Also the barn all closed up can contribute to the calf developing pneumonia due to stagnant air. The weather that day was about 30 degrees so a great day for a early spring calf. She is a great mom and is quite to clean off her calf, and get it nursing. Colostrum provides the calf with not only the immunities for mom but also a warm belly that helps kick start their internal temperature.
