    This is very timely for me - I was just sorting through my bin of minis this week, deciding which are in a paintable state and which have flashing that needs to be scraped off (and their primer stripped as a result). One of the minis in the To Paint Pile is... a gelatinous cube. :)

    How'd you make the cube? It looks kinda like hot glue drizzled over a plastic cube? That's really clever! (Also haha, it ate your mini.) I understand the need to go through a backlog! I'm kinda doing it now with my yarn. Sorta. Working through it aaaaand picking up a nice skein here and there. *cough* I'm human.

    Great paint scheme, it looked superb. But the terrain set itself is kind of meh, and there's nothing particularly mine-like or dwarven about it. By the time you clip it all out and clean it up, you could almost build the equivalent terrain yourself for next to nothing in cost.

    As I sit here knitting an elaborate lace shawl, you mention that it's okay to dislike parts of your hobby and it's like ... yes, yes I agree because there is little I hate more than extremely long cast-ons to start a project, and blocking the damn things. Some people are like 'woo yes, my favourite!!!!' and I want to yeet my needles and yarn into next week. Those guard towers look fantastic and the amount of work you poured into them shows! When you're base-coating the bricks after they're on, could you use an airbrush instead of hand-painting to make it go faster?

    • @dungeonsanddrybrushing
      @dungeonsanddrybrushing 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The base coat is done with a mix of black paint and mod podge. The latter of which is a glue/sealant. Getting that through an airbrush would be a big problem but if you wanted to skip the mod podge step you could definitely base coat with an airbrush. Unlike rattle can primers, its absolutely foam safe.

      Cheers! I always bounce around a lot on which colour schemes to use for something this big, but I'm super happy with where this one landed.

    Good stuff! There are some interesting bits of scatter that I haven't really seen anyone craft before. I can only watch so many videos of crates or barrels... Anyway, definitely stealing some of these. I'm crafting a massive chunk of the player's city for my final campaign arc, there's good bits in here I can use to liven up the city. Cheers!

      Thanks very much! Sounds very similar to what I was doing for my current campaign too. It's a lot of work to craft a big portion of city like that, but it was totally worth it! Every time it comes together fully on the table I get a huge kick out of it.

    Im going to pick up the red dragon for £22. I love that it comes with stats. Tbh i will get all of epic encounters stuff as the price for what you get is basically best on market. I mean dragons the same size will cost you around the same or more and you get nothing extra for those.

      While I don't have the red dragon, if the sculpt quality is the same, a lot of those other dragons would just be straight-up less fun to paint too. Definitely going to keep picking them up.

    I only got into D&D as an adult, but your story gave me vivid reminders of high-school visits to my local (old, cramped, and musty) comic-book shop. The store is still going strong: it has a new, bigger, better space; a ton more products, including gaming supplies; friendly and enthusiastic staff... and three other shops in town to give them competition. It's great to be a nerd, now. :)
