      For a 200-liter (around 53-gallon) tank, I’d recommend keeping 3-4 parrot fish to ensure they have enough space to swim and grow comfortably. I've had several power cuts this year from storms and the first thought I always had was about the temperature. Especially for my African Cichlids and glass catfish - I keep them at about 27deg C. (Also, it was winter here and I live in the Mountains. So, each time the power went out I was freaking out, wrapping my tanks in blankets and doonas, keeping track of water temps and when they got down to worrying levels, doing water changes, adding back warmer water (thank goodness I had plenty of hot water in my hot water tank each time!) Thankfully, all my fish survived as well. But I never had to go without power for as long as too days. The longest was 8 hours I think. I REALLY need to get a backup generator! Glad your fish survived too.

    • @GrowingUpFish
      @GrowingUpFish 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I can totally relate to the stress of worrying about tank temperatures during power outages. It sounds like you handled it like a pro with those blankets and warm water changes - great thinking! I’m glad your African Cichlids and glass catfish made it through okay, especially given the cold mountain conditions. A backup generator is definitely a game changer for peace of mind! It’s something I’ve been considering as well because, like you said, even a few hours without power can feel like forever when you’re trying to keep the water at a stable temperature. Thanks again for watching and sharing your story, and I hope both our fish stay safe in any future storms!

      Thank you so much! Puffers are amazing fish to raise-they have such unique personalities! If you're thinking about getting into puffers, just remember they need some special care, especially when it comes to their diet and water conditions. For example, my Fahaka Puffer thrives in a spacious tank with a varied diet of snails and shrimp, and I make sure to keep the water clean and slightly brackish for my smaller puffers like the Green Spotted ones. It’s really rewarding, so if you decide to go for it, you'll love watching them grow! Feel free to ask any questions, I’m happy to help!

      Great point! Parrot Cichlids do best with other Parrots, but you’re absolutely right-tank size is key! These fish can get pretty large, so if you plan on keeping a group of them, you'll need plenty of space for them to thrive. A big tank with lots of hiding spots works best to minimize aggression. I love Parrot Cichlids! I have nine in a 180 gallon shared with clown loaches, tiger barbs and Dennison barbs. I’m trying to get their orange color to become more intense or more red. I’ve fed so many “color enhancing” pellet food brands without success. I prefer sinking pellets to keep the parrots from ingesting air as they eat from the surface. My next to try is Omega One Super Color pellets. In the meantime I’m enjoying watching their fun personalities. Great video content and clever channel name. Keep up the good work, sir! 👍 Looking forward to more videos.

    • @GrowingUpFish
      @GrowingUpFish 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Je comprends ton inquiétude ! Les poissons perroquets peuvent être territoriaux, surtout quand un nouveau poisson arrive dans leur espace. Voici quelques astuces pour apaiser la situation : Réorganise l'aquarium : Changer l’agencement des décorations et cachettes peut perturber le territoire établi du premier poisson. Cela pourrait réduire son agressivité. Ajoute plus de cachettes : Assure-toi qu'il y ait suffisamment de cachettes pour que le nouveau poisson puisse se réfugier. Cela lui permettra de se sentir en sécurité. Utilise un diviseur temporaire : Si les attaques sont trop intenses, essaie de séparer les poissons avec un diviseur pendant quelques jours. Ils pourront s’habituer l’un à l’autre sans se blesser. Surveille-les de près : Les poissons perroquets ont parfois besoin de quelques jours pour accepter un nouveau compagnon. Continue d’observer la situation. Ne t’inquiète pas trop, ils finissent souvent par s’habituer à la présence de l’autre ! 😊

    The Amazon puffers are so funny

    • @GrowingUpFish
      @GrowingUpFish หลายเดือนก่อน

      I totally agree! Amazon Puffers have such playful personalities-they're so fun to watch. They're always zipping around the tank and getting into everything. Just make sure to give them plenty of room to swim and some hard foods to help keep their teeth in check. They're definitely a joy to have in the aquarium! Let me know if you want any tips on keeping them happy and healthy!

    I glad you addressed the issue of the puffer's teeth and maintenance

    • @GrowingUpFish
      @GrowingUpFish 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They can be a lot to manage, but adding things like clams and hard shell crayfish can help trim their teeth naturally. Regularly providing these tough foods mimics their natural diet and prevents overgrowth. Additionally, keeping a varied diet with crunchy, shell-on foods helps maintain their dental health and keeps them active and engaged.

    Nice video. I have a question for you. I have a 125-130 gallon tank with a sump filter. However it is a shallow tank. 14" tall 30" wide and 6 feet long. Do you think I could get away putting a Fahaka in there ? or would it be to shallow?

    • @GrowingUpFish
      @GrowingUpFish 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching and for your comment. Your tank’s length and width are great for a Fahaka puffer, but 14 inches in height might be too shallow. Fahakas can grow up to 18 inches, so a taller tank-around 20 inches or more-would be ideal for their comfort. Consider a taller tank or be ready to upgrade as your puffer grows. Let me know if you have any other questions, would love to help!
