When I wrote this two day ago, I had John Prine, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt and Nancy Griffith playing in my head...then I asked what would Jerry Jeff Walker do in this situation?....the lyrics came out is less than 20 minutes....lol.

Love this song. One of the songs I actually learned by heart. Like your cover, it shows real feeling. Just wish more people had true empathy for the folks out there who face life always fighting from behind if you know what I mean. I can feel Prine, Clark and Townes in this song, as well as a little Jackie Jack. Also, you mention Nancie Griffith and I have been so hooked on her music and tear up now and then thinking on how she is gone. I think this is such a great song and I don't throw that around lightly.
