Speedo and fuel gauge programming is easy. Speedo has a feature where you link it to your phone. It will give you your gps speed. You will give the guage a set point say 40 mph When the gps on your phone says 40mph you tap a button on your phone and it calibrates. For fuel. Run it almost empty. Get to the pump and get on the Dakota app. Select manual setup. It will give you a prompt to follow. Put in one gallon and press select. Put in 3 gallons. Press select. Then fill it up and press select. The fuel gauge will then auto correct. I just did a full Dakota setup on my dad’s car a few months ago. Still working out the kinks

I'm so glad my dad had the foresight in the late 80's to buy me a "Visible V8" engine model kit when I was in my early teens. Bcuz that was most effective way to teach me the fundamentals about cars/engines. He always told me, "If you already know HOW something works, then you'll have a much better chance at figuring WHY it doesn't work. 38 yrs later, I've never had a more applicable piece of life advice than that one.

So I would want to know what transmission is in the car. Basically want to know if it has a lockup converter. Possibly the converter is stuck locked. But if not I suspect a vacuum leak, or fuel delivery issue. Basically it’s probably running but doesn’t have the power to get over the load of being put in gear because it’s not getting enough fuel or there’s an issue with the trans. Also double check your timing. If the trans is ok, check your fuel filter, the screens in the carb inlets, if you have them, make sure the needle and seat is clear. Buy a can of carb cleaner and spray it all over to try and find a potential vacuum leak. Try these things to start, I bet you find it pretty quick once you start looking. Thanks for watching.

This is my all-time favorite TH-cam video! Because this is the only '67 Camaro I've ever seen that is much like the one I owned in the early 1970's. It is the same green color. It has the same black interior and the same black-vinyl roof. Mine of course had no rust ☺. It also had a console, but with the 3-speed manual, and a straight-line 6-cylinder '230 Turbo-Thrift' engine. I bought it in Greenville NC in 1973 ('74?) from a Penthouse Playmate who was 'dating' the guitar player (Jack Wells) in the band (Onyx) that I was playing with at the time. It wasn't 'drive-able' when I bought it; it needed a tie-rod, a ball-joint and a battery; yep, that's it. I moved to Greenwood SC, near a lake. I bought a 16' Ski boat and installed a trailer hitch to the Camaro to pull the boat. I was surprised how easily the car pulled that boat. I later sold the car when I was getting ready to leave Greenwood. In hindsight, that was one of the major mistakes in my life.

Holy crap dude! And with a HF gun at that! So in about 30 years of mechanic-ing and building hot rods in the back yard (I’ve even tried my hand at painting in an actual body shop - it sucked) I’ve come to terms with the fact that guys are either mechanics OR body men, and rarely both. In the “body-men” category, only a few are accomplished painters. I wish I could say that I have a little of both in me, but the reality is I don’t have the patience for body work which makes me suck at it. The problem with painting for me is that I hate buffing and wet sanding, and as bad as I am with painting those are two things I had to do A LOT. Thankfully, my Dad is a decent painter and a phenomenal body man. I’ll stick to wrenching.

Hey John, always glad to hear from you. I absolutely agree. I would tend to put myself in the mechanic category, hack mechanic to be specific. But this “body work/paint” for me comes out of necessity. Things are so expensive nowadays and i would be looking to save money even if I had money pouring out of my face, which I don’t, for the record. So I had no choice but to do it myself. What I will say is that I make small improvements every time I do one of these makeshift paint jobs at the garage. One value I live by is try to learn whatever you can. And by doing this repeatedly on different projects im learning. Mostly what NOT to do. But same outcome lol. I’ve got another couple paint jobs incoming for the channel on future content. One on a project that’s been on the channel and one that’s a new project that I have not shown on the channel yet so it’s a surprise. Thanks for watching John, talk soon pal.

@@americannostalgiagarage I hear you on cost of things going ridiculous and forcing us to do more with less. I’m working on my 7.3L Excursion project (still) and bought some single stage Nason paint put in to a rattle can (that’s about 6-8 ounces of actual liquid) and it was $68. A gallon of the good quality body filler is over $130 now. Sh!+ has gotten out of control. Gotta do what big companies do and cut costs where we can, and since we don’t have people to lay off we paint our stuff ourselves! I too try everything myself, at least once. I have several pretty good quality HVLP guns from Sata and Devilbiss even though I suck at painting because I always want to do things myself. I’ve even contemplated buying a used upholstery sewing machine and self-teaching because there’s no one around me that does it and the nearest people charge a premium. Not that I blame them though, it’s a dying art and it takes a lot of time and patience to do it right and well. For that matter, people like us are becoming a dying breed. Lots of folks out there who do bolt on’s, not a lot who rebuild things from nearly scratch. Thanks for taking the time to share your journeys with us.

@@azjohn520 John that would be a phenomenal idea to buy a sewing machine. That’s an interest I have as well. Give yourself more credit, with 30 years experience I bet you can spin wrenches in circles around most people on earth. On the topic of that old 7.3 you have laying around, mechanics never get a chance to finish their own projects. You’ll get it done one day I’m sure of it.

Thank you. Gotta do the best you can with what you have. In my case that would be no money. Came out pretty good and I’m happy with it. Also it cost a fraction of the cost it would have been at a shop. Thanks for watching

Looks amazing in one color, you should be very proud of the work you did to that car. I think painting without a booth is harder. How many times did the car and those parts have to be moved or adjusted? Paint booth is just set it and forget it. Again, great job and I can’t wait for you to paint the 56 for me.

@@automotivechaos it was a game of musical chairs with moving things around. Pain in the butt. However, it’s done and I’m happy with it.
