    Hey Mike! Im stuck between Asio and Huntworth Disruption/Vertek for a full camo system. Im in the midwest in the Ozark Mountains. Do you have an overall favorite between the 3?

      @theeverydaybowhunter 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      If you are hunting in tree stands in forested areas there, you can’t go wrong with any of them. That being said, I haven’t had my hands on the Vertek camo yet. I’ve only seen it in pictures. If you’re hunting off the ground, stick with the Huntworth camo. For overall quality, Asio is a step above Huntworth but not by much. Huntworth is definitely a great value proposition and it’s all my brother has been wearing. My overall favorite for tree stand hunting is Asio, but it’s really close and depends a lot on the individual pieces and weather. That’s a tough choice. Sorry lol.

    With today's bows performance output I've found with a low to mid 400s grain arrow at 73 pounds that a single pin set at 26 yards will suffice from a tree stand from zero to about 43 yds and remain in a whitetails 8-10 inch kill zone

    A good discussion on camo. One type you did not mention was ASAT. Decades ago, when I was bow hunting, I used ASAT, washed in sports wash without the brighteners and sprayed with a UV blocker. I chose this because I believe most camo is meant for our eyes, not the game animal's eyes as evidenced by all the ads asking can you see the hunter. Frankly I could not care less if we can see the hunter, I am more concerned about can the deer see the hunter. I have eased up to within 30 yards of a deer eating, in the open, and they literally looked thru me and went back to eating. One time I was on a game trail and stopped just as the trail led out of some brush on either side. I was standing, sort of straddling the trail. I watched a Fox come over the little rise in the ground ahead of me and watched that Fox continue on the trail towards me and it actually went between my legs and did not seem to have a care in the world. One last note, my brother was with me once, we saw a deer just off the road about 15 yards, I got out of the car and was just standing and watching the deer, it saw me as it looked straight at me, then went back to eating, my brother got out of the car in his everyday clothes and the moment the deer saw him it took off. I am a firm believer in soap without the brighteners for washing hunting clothes. I do not know what you think of ASAT but I do know it absolutely works. Another thing I have learned is to wear different types, shade and color, of clothing, one for top another for bottom. But, thank you for the video, it was informing. This Vietnam Vet thanks you for your service to OUR country.

    Back in the 70's when I started bow hunting we used gray sweat pants/shirt blocked out mid to large shapes with a sharpie and washed in baking soda. We had good success relative to deer numbers in the area. We just copied the Old "Tree Bark" camo line as we were hunting big timber and pines. Large block shapes (the old "Tree Bark Camo" line comes to mind) - Blaze orange with camo lines are great (w/o UV brightener's), even for bow season! Deer see movement! Modern patterns are mostly just big blobs with deer vision. Modern camo patterns seems to me are made for human eyes - Wind and movement 100% are what you need to maximize your benefit of not getting busted. Stay still and watch the wind.

    What do you recommend for washing? Does having good camo apply to black chest rigs and harnesses that don’t have a camo pattern, and also aren’t a solid green or brown color as a well? Specifically in stalking type ground hunting scenarios where blinds aren’t used. Does predator hunting like Coyote and varmints like Jackrabbits need involved camo patterns or can you mix and match solids, as long as you’re minimizing movement?

    • @theeverydaybowhunter
      @theeverydaybowhunter 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m using the Phase System laundry detergent: amzn.to/4eGbpPP Black can work when mixed with other camo, but if you are wearing a lot in the wrong environment it can stand out a lot. Deer see contrast very well and can spot it easily if there is too much of it. Especially when stalking in an environment where there is mostly green or brown and you are moving a lot. When hunting coyotes I think camo is even more important. They can see you so easily. Jackrabbits I have no idea lol.

    Camouflage is a gimmick! Deer dont see color or in 3D. All the see is movement. Infact their nose is better than their eyes. Learn to hunt the wind. Stay as still as possible. Slow movement in their direction they dont pick up as well. Side to side movement tips them off every time. Ive slowly walked directly at deer looking at me in plain clothes. They knew something was up but didnt flintch until I stepped sideways at 10 yards. I never wear camo and have taken many deer, some big ones, some not so big. Its meat. A few years ago I took a large 8 point at the length of my arrow away. Never knew I was there.

    You don’t need camo at all. Just nothing blue. It’s not hard to understand deers vision. A deer don’t even have that great of eyesight. They’re prey animals with the eyes on the side of their head and their looking for movement. Not to see if your camo pattern is right.

    Something to be aware of is primitive style Highlands hunting. The Scots would use capes made out of their tartans and it was super effective at breaking up patterns even though it's what we would call plaid. I think your point on UV light reflection is key and the fact that the weft and weave of traditional fabrics actually does have some of that dispersion because there is micro patterns inside of the macro patterns. Good stuff!

    I hate the camos you are pushing in 2024. THEY SUCK . They all become the same color outside of 50 yards. The best way to fool a deer or any game animal is with HIGH CONTRAST . Predator BRAND camo is still the best camo for deer and always will be . Light and dark combos with hard edges are the only way to not become a blob at distance and conceal up close. High contrast is so much better than this nonsense camo made for the richest people so they still look fashionable and NOT so they have the best concealment.

    I’d like to add a few to your list. Origin NYLOC Field pants are pretty similar to Kuiu’s Kutana pant in quietness and feel. Canis has a Cordura NYCO pant called the Kafue. It’s really well made and quiet. Sitka’s Intercept pant is a really nice merino blend and has a couple large vents which helps since it’s a bit warmer. A non-hunting brand I would look into is Kettle Mountain Apparel. It’s Vent Lightweight pant has a mesh type fabric but is softer and quieter than both the First Lite Trace pant and the Kuiu Tiberon.

      Thanks for the tips. I have the Intercept Pants. They are nice. I left them out because I haven’t worn them in the woods yet. I’ll have to check out these other ones in my next round of testing.

    Any recommendations for hunting clothes that DONT cost $250-$400 just for the jacket? The prices on decent camouflage clothing are absurd. Insulting, actually. For ONE outfit you’re going to spend $500 approximately, not even including your base layers. Or boots. Now pair that with needing a new outfit each day you hunt to maintain a high level of scent control, and all of the sudden hunting goes from being a pastime for the common family, to now you need a small loan if you want to put yourself or your kids in even halfway decent gear to be even competitive. These companies are shameful with what they’re trying to squeeze out of folks. Anyways. Other than that, great information, great video sir. Carry on ✊🏻

      Huntworth hunting clothes have the best price for quality gear that I know of. There are others like Kings Camo, Skre, and True Timber, that have great camo with decent prices too. Thanks!

    ASIO needs to come out on their early season light weight hunting pants, shirts and hoodies with some green overlay on them. I believe with this on the already great camo it would be killer.

      Ironically, I had 3 doe and 2 fawns walk up on me at first light on Saturday. I was on the ground up against a tree wearing Asio’s lightweight stuff. They fed around me for close to 10 minutes before finally winding me. Got as close as 4-5 yards from me. When they winded me, they didn’t run and only one of them had their tail up. Awesome experience. I chalked it up to me being super still and the Asio camo.

    I believe Natural Gear is at the top. When you have a red-tailed hawk land on a limb, 3 feet from you then sit there and stare at you for 3 minutes trying to figure out if you're a threat before nonchalantly deciding I wasn't anything abnormal, that's all I need to know about an effective camo pattern.

      How do you know that it was because of the camo? Who do you know that the reason wasn't because you weren't doing any threatening movements?
