I’m just a guy who was lucky enough to build my dream home with the help of my wife and two children(son and daughter). We decided to heat our home with a Central Boiler Classic Edge 350 outdoor wood boiler. I had never cut and split firewood before this journey started. Once I did it quickly became my favorite pastime. My firewood hobby has turned into more of an obsession which is why I decided to start a small firewood business. The equipment I am currently using is a Eastonmade 12-22 along with a Kioti CK3510 compact tractor and a Polaris Ranger 570. I have 4 chainsaws, a Poulan Wild Thing, Echo CS 590, Echo CS 620P and a Holzfforma g372xp pro. I plan to grow my bundle business expanding from my current roadside stands to selling to retail locations in my area. Please come along as I grow not only my business but my Knowledge of the firewood process.
I will do my best to post a new video every week!

Outdoor Wood Boiler: How Much Wood Do I Burn?

Outdoor Wood Boiler: How Much Wood Do I Burn?
Its a worry leaking gas. No dogs is a fail.
I flipped the O-ring on the gas cap and the leak seems to have stopped, for now at least. It has one set of small dogs I didn’t put them on during the first video. I’ve installed them and the work good for firewood
Just subscribed. I have a small 40cc saw but I wouldn't turn it down. Liking your videos.
Thanks for the sub!
Just thought I'd share, we've used our central boiler for the past 20 years, that is the lifetime of these outdoor boilers, they don't rust out from the water side, they rust out between the expanding foam and water jacket, the condensation is held in the foam like a sponge, my burner is now junk and too expensive to replace, these are almost being given away because of rust outs, poor engineering.
Thanks for sharing and I’m sorry your burner is rotted out. It’s a bummer so many people have had issues with their Central Boilers failing.
I was having burning issues with my Edge HDX Ang could find no air flow blockage. It turned out to be corrosion in pigtail connections to dampers. Just thought I’d put that out there to add to things to check when burn is not performing at 100%.
Thank for sharing your experience. I will keep an eye on my connections, maybe I’ll put a little dielectric grease on them the next time I have it apart.
Adjustment screw missing
Oh wow, I’m not sure what the tread is but you should be able to order one.
Going to try one out this spring and see how it turns out 😊
Very cool! It seems like a good saw, I’m hoping to get out tomorrow and do a bit of cutting. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
Decent saw for $100. Good for small stuff and light homeowner use. Glad you’re back. Good stuff.
I agree completely! Thanks, it’s great to talk to everyone again. Take care-Tony
Chain brake cover looks identical to poulan. Thanks for sharing
Different than what I’m used to but it seems like it’ll hold up. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Hello Tony,, good show my friend
Thanks Larry!
The tension screw out the front, and the brake setup remind me of the older huskys.
They might be modeled after them. Most of the Chinese clones are a rough copy of one of the big name saws. I’ll look for a husky replacement gas cap maybe that’ll fix the leaky gas cap. Thanks for watching I appreciate it, take care-Tony
New subscriber!
Hey Phillip, thanks for the sub I appreciate your support!
Hey Tony!! Not too bad for a cheap saw👍👍
Hey Jeremiah! Not bad for the money!
Hey Tony, that vevor starts like a husky! 😂
Exactly! The start assist is a pain in 🫏 😂
Hey Tony , good to see you . That would make a good backup saw . Like you said . A solid 100 bucks . Take care my friend . 👍🏻🇺🇸
Hey Del, how are you my friend? Yeah I agree, not a great primary saw but a solid second. Take care- Tony
It really does mess up the algorithm. Colgate toothpaste wants me to collaborate with them😅Unreal. Now if someone wanted to send me a chainsaw 👍. It's works well for $100 powersaw. Pretty cool Tony.
It does for sure, it’s amazing all the different offers I get in a week. I figured the first video back in the saddle wouldn’t hurt I guess. Thanks for watching Kenny I appreciate you!
@TCsOutdoors1 keep up the great content Tony.

@@seanwhite9009 hey I was there when I was 10-11. Was more interested in the farming museum
Nice video Tony thank you please take care of my saw lol
Thanks! I’ll try not to break it 🤞🏻
Just thought of this. Maybe you could get a hold of them and ask about parts. I know it's $100, but shame to throw out a good saw cuz the trigger assembly broke etc.
Good to see you back with another cutting video.
Thanks Juan!
Good to see ya again Tony, boiler looks like it's doing good!!! I've burned about the same as you too. I'm at 8 face cord so far. Which im totally okay with, house is toasty garage is toasty, and water is 🔥🔥 I agree for the 100 bucks, that's not a bad saw for a hobbyist 💪💪 Forfeit me from any entry should my name come up, give it to a real subscriber 😂😂 Stay safe and warm brother!!!
The boiler is pretty good, still having trouble with creosote every once in a while but nothing out of the normal.
@@TCsOutdoors1 gassers man, creosote makers!!!
You had to go and say the P V phrase... Welcome back. You have the perfect amount of stuff for that space. So you need more space to fill. 😅😅 Don't send that saw here. My luck w generic saws... My Holzforma called either 25 or 32:1 Infomercial 👎👎, but it is a saw so I'll watch.
Hey Brandon! Yeah it’s a little infomercial ish I guess, not sure how else to give a decent review. Thanks for watching I appreciate it.
Good to see you back on Tony. That boiler is doing the trick……Nice ! I’m not much for those kind’a saws …..but that’s just me. Thanks for the review though. 👍🔥🪵👏🇺🇸 Rick
@ thanks for watching Rick I appreciate it! Take care-Tony
Great to see ya back!! Nice homeowner saw!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
@ Hey Dave! Thanks for checking in I appreciate it!
Hello everyone
Hi Stanley!
Thanks for sharing your experiences. Your testimonies will help people make the right decision on whether to get this type of whole house heater. I know I definitely made the right choice NOT to get an OWB. Way too much complexity. FWIW ONLY DRY seasoned wood should be burned in ALL (and I mean ALL) wood fired appliances. It astounds me that people want to throw up to 80-160% moisture wood into the fire. All that water has to be evaporated before the wood will burn HOT. Cheers.
You’re welcome, thanks so much for the support! Seasoned wood is key for sure, take care-Tony
When you started having the problem with the primary stepper motor, would it open up in small increments when you would power off and on the boiler or would it be one fluid motion? I have N Edge 560 hdx. I'm having the same issue that it doesn't open when called for. But when reset, it works fine. Im actually getting a new motor today to replace it. Thank you for putting this information out there.
It would either not open at all or sometimes in small increments like your experiencing. If I turned the power off and back on it would work normally most of the times. Eventually I would have to turn the power on and off a few times to get it to run normally.
@TCsOutdoors1 sounds just like the issue I'm having. Thankfully, I'm getting a new motor today.
@@Grahamstvn they are super easy to change, I keep one on the shelf now. It’s nice to have it on hand , it always seems to fail at the word time. Hopefully that solves your issue, take care-Tony
Watching thesse videos an seeing many different stoves just males me love mine so so much more, i have a heatsorce 1 (the biggest one) got it used for 1000 bucks guy gave me four pumps (exspensive ones) an two water to air exchangers an again nice large tube one not no Chinese shit , oh and his home made stoker pole, which i ise eveyday! going on six yrs now with it an literally not one issue , burns everything an anything and clean too rarely have to clean it out maybe once twice a yr (and I burn year round never shuts down) has a large 24 x 24 door water jacketed, but to my point here when I see people have stoves like this and then the amount of issues that they have with them and just one years time with a brand new $10-$15,000 unit it just blows my mind, not only was the cost for the boiler itself, a massive investment, but all of the extras as well pumps, strangers, and the fact of all these other components that are on them that are happy to be replaced that are expensive as all hell that have failed within one year to me I find that hard to balance out against heating was just traditional, propane, fuel oil, and natural gas at that point it’s already gonna take you years upon years to even come close to breaking even while over here me with my second hand stove that’s basic literally paid for itself within one months time🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Great video! But goto your local feedstore!!! Support you local small buisness! Not TS.
Thanks! I have gone back to getting the wood shavings from our local feed store. I like the size of them better and like you said, supporting local businesses whenever I can is a must.

Very cool! I hope to get 27 plus years out of mine also. Take care-Tony
Tony. Schieb has a new conveyor. You ought to see about buying his old one. I mentioned you on his video just now. ✌
I saw that today, that’s a sweet setup he’s got going now! I will reach out to him after he figures out what his plan is. Thanks for thinking of me I appreciate it!
Good idea.
Thanks for watching!
Great video Tony! Curious how you installed the threaded rods. I’m thinking of doing something similar with my firewood stand.
Thanks Norman! Here’s a link to my latest video, you can see the setup @11:14. th-cam.com/video/_gGX67YA76Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gt2HUbIYhdqHvp4Z It’s not the best view but I hope it helps ya. I just punch a hole in the top of the bag and slide it on to the treaded rod. The rod is 12” or so, it hold 5 bags no problem.
thanks for your share , had the old school type for 15 plus yrs , then bought this before knowing it was alot more work all the way around keeps you on yur toes always wondering where its blocked for air because its gumed up , that part of this sucks i may go back to what i had before its been about 5 yrs of this gasification thing yes it burns less , yes you need to be tuned into it all the way around even down to having wood thats dry enough .
Thank you for watching! Yes the gassers definitely keep you in your toes, I wish my dealer would have given me a bit more insight on how things actually worked. All I had to go to off of was the information available on the internet, that wasn’t the most helpful either. Unfortunately the gassers are my only option in NY because of epa laws, hopefully I can get this thing figured out eventually. Take care- Tony
I'm not sure about in the US, but in some places, under consumer law, companies can't decline warranty if you don't use their products, as long as you are maintaining your equipment within reason. It seems foolish that a unit that cost this much money would not have a breaker, fuse or programmed load limit on those steppers. To just allow them to pull till they burn themselves out doesn't seem acceptable to me. A $200 3D printer has load protection for the steppers.
Yeah unfortunately that’s definitely how it works. I just changed my second one for $50. Thanks for watching I appreciate it, take care-Tony
@@TCsOutdoors1 If you get sick of it, you can probably do a bit of internet research and install an inline fuse. That way the fuse blows, you clean the unit, replace the fuse and your back in business. I believe most stepper motors will have a common wire (shared wire) and if you fuse this wire it should do the job. If you can't find specs on amp draw, you could always measure it under normal operation, or just start with a small fuse (2 amp?) and if it blows under normal operation, install a slightly larger one.
@loweredexpectations4927 that’s a really good idea, thanks you! I’ve got a couple friends that are electricians, I’ll have to ask them what they think but it sounds like the best solution I’ve heard of for sure. I can seem to get rid of the creosote so if I can get the motor to stop trying to open before it burns out that’s a win for sure! Thanks I appreciate the input
@@TCsOutdoors1 Awesome ! If they are the types that like to tinker, it would be a good idea to wire a light bulb across fused circuit. That way, if the fuse is good, the light will be off. If you walk out and see a light on, you have a bad fuse and a stuck damper. Glad to help, when I can 👍
My CB is entering its 21st year of service and it is bullet proof. Like the 6048 mine is the predecessor and one problem that just surfaced is the rust inhibitor itself. I switched out the water and added the CB suggested inhibitor as directed and all of a sudden the impellers on my pumps disappeared. The zone valves on two fin rad circuits started leaking so it has become impossible to control room temperature. Can't prove it is the inhibitor but some older techs stopped using inhibitors for that reason.
Yikes, I haven’t heard about this before. I hope they have changed the formula in the inhibitor and this isn’t an issue anymore.
Do I have a central boiler Nope, did I watch the whole thing and take notes Yep,my question is how much energy does it take to run it and can it be ran on solar.
Hi will! I’m not sure on the exact amount of power it uses, it’s on 120v 15 amp breaker that also powers the pumps. My electric bill goes down once I light the boiler because I’m using the boiler to heat my domestic hot water instead of electric. Sorry I can’t give you an exact amount. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
I had the same problem last year with the sample. The accuracy of the test strips have room for improvement. Now I just add a few extra glugs before I send in the sample.
Agree completely on the test strips, the range they want you in is at the end of the scale 🤷🏻♂️. They say you can have to much so I’m thinking adding a bit every year is probably the way to go for sure. Take care-Tony
For work I love doing sessional work here in Vermont and work for myself. In spring we have fiddlehead season that lasts for 4-6 weeks and I’ll start in mass/conn then come home to Vermont and end in Maine. In 4 weeks I always make 10k min every season but if we get a early start and a late finish season I have had up to 6 weeks of picking and made $15,000 plus which is all the money I need for all my spring summer and fall to do whatever I want with it. We have been looking for other seasonal work that pays great money like fiddleheads and it’s not easy. The work is brutal and I do all I can to not miss a single day of fiddlehead season,at its peak I’ll make upwards to $900 a day so missing a day is huge. Getting other seasonal wild crops going for work is not the hard part there is plenty of things to forage for, What’s hard is getting buyers . I have done fiddles for 10 years or more now and last year we found a buyer for high branch crandbury bark and got a 1000 pound order at $13 per pound dry so at the end or last years fiddlehead season I took a few weeks to recover and let my hands heal then started in on the bark and it’s gone really well the order has been filled and in 4-5 months I have already made around 25k between fiddles and bark . I have been trying to get some winter work doing the same kind of work and can still get more orders for Bark but it’s way harder in winter just to find it. I guess what I’m getting at is that doing all this bark leaves behind a hell of a lot of sticks and branches and some of them are as think as my leg from more huge high cranberry bushes but there is much more smaller stuff. So rather then getting rid of it all over a bank I have a mountain of branches bundled, bundle after bundle that all weigh 30 to 60 pounds each and have been looking to sell it all in one large load or break it down into $5 bundles of fire starter kindling and am wondering how that pays and or how fast it moves? I live in Vermont and it’s winter and I grew up at the foot of Mount Mansfield skiing resort in Stowe Vermont and all the stores sell extremely overpriced kindling so I’m wondering is it’s worth trying? The bark leaves behind a hell of a lot of byproduct and it seems a shame to waste it but I don’t want to put in a bunch of effort for it not to work which I have down plenty of time wasting in the past, I don’t want to repeat. Seems like the stuff will sell I mean it’s winter in Vermont for half the year and it seems like a safe bet and I already have the product and hair need to break it down into more manageable bundles then sell them for a reasonable price. I can’t sit there all day waiting for it to sell and need a system where people leave money and take a bundle and have it all work out which means relying on good faith which is a gamble. How does selling your product gone and do you have any issues with stupid people taking advantage ? Is it worth the gamble ?
I have had a small amount of theft at my stands but nothing outrageous. It’s worth the little theft in my opinion but every area is different I’m sure.
Thanks for the heads up on checking out the adjustment screw. I played around with it but no luck for me. The idle on the carb was super high and I kept on using the saw and putting on the chain brake and I believe this cooked the automatic oiler because when I dismantled it to see what was going on the collar that drives the worm gear had broke in half and the oiler gears that drive the pump had worn down. I should have stopped and adjusted the carb but it was late and wanted to get the most cut before dark. There is a price to pay for everything. Your presentation was clear, easy to understand, and informative. Appreciate it.
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Quick tip: never toss that blob of creosote into the bucket where you have the boiler's ashes.
I usually pile all the tar like stuff in paper towel or piece of cardboard, and then toss it in the trash when I’m done.
Yeah, I think you get that due to the model you have. The gasification brings more problems, better efficiency but at a cost.
I think you’re correct, thanks so much for watching and commenting I really appreciate it! Take care- Tony
How did you make your carry-all?
Hey Paul! I bought the frame from tractor supply and I used Adam from hometown acres plans. Here’s a link to his video th-cam.com/video/gLCyvbW9sv8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=c3b9-oWPcym3eTmi
@ thanks
Very cool. Ive been considering adding firestarters to my bundle firewood business. Great video showing your process. Good stuff.
Thanks, the fire started have been a great add on to my stand. I sell a few hundred a year.
good information, thank you.... could you take a torch and melt that creosote down in place? seems like a big enough investment to get a water treatment tester-not the strips, not cheap but..... just stick the strip in the bleed tube
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
F that little spring
Merry Christmas guys
Merry Christmas Kenny!
Bn travail
Thanks you
It's not operator error!!! This is central boilers piss poor design....everyone I know that has these units have the same problem...3 year old wood means you should have zero problems
I definitely agree with that! I have been reading all the forums online and everyone seems to be having similar issues. Thanks for watching the appreciate it, take care-Tony
Thank you also I subscribed. Again thank you enjoyed it!!
You’re welcome!! Thanks so much for the sub I really appreciate it! Take care-Tony
maybe a silly question but at 13:25 you were showing a torch. I don't understand where the fire is coming from. What was the fire source there? Firebox was empty. Sorry is this is a dumb question.
That is the gasification chamber, that’s actually the smoke from the fire above being forced down reignited.
@@TCsOutdoors1 Understand. thanks for the help
Very informative central boiler should send you a check for doing what they won't
Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
Good review as my dealer never ever showed me anything other than set it and said your on your own.One of the biggest things that you crossed was the build up of cresote in the air tubes due to the extended off time when not it full burn.
Thanks! I was pretty much in the same situation, they dropped it off and that was it. I set it up and stated it on my own. I have had a couple learning experiences along the way for sure.
@@TCsOutdoors1 same here 😳. They dropped it off and I was on my own 🤨
