Just thought I'd share, we've used our central boiler for the past 20 years, that is the lifetime of these outdoor boilers, they don't rust out from the water side, they rust out between the expanding foam and water jacket, the condensation is held in the foam like a sponge, my burner is now junk and too expensive to replace, these are almost being given away because of rust outs, poor engineering.

I was having burning issues with my Edge HDX Ang could find no air flow blockage. It turned out to be corrosion in pigtail connections to dampers. Just thought I’d put that out there to add to things to check when burn is not performing at 100%.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Your testimonies will help people make the right decision on whether to get this type of whole house heater. I know I definitely made the right choice NOT to get an OWB. Way too much complexity. FWIW ONLY DRY seasoned wood should be burned in ALL (and I mean ALL) wood fired appliances. It astounds me that people want to throw up to 80-160% moisture wood into the fire. All that water has to be evaporated before the wood will burn HOT. Cheers.

When you started having the problem with the primary stepper motor, would it open up in small increments when you would power off and on the boiler or would it be one fluid motion? I have N Edge 560 hdx. I'm having the same issue that it doesn't open when called for. But when reset, it works fine. Im actually getting a new motor today to replace it. Thank you for putting this information out there.

Watching thesse videos an seeing many different stoves just males me love mine so so much more, i have a heatsorce 1 (the biggest one) got it used for 1000 bucks guy gave me four pumps (exspensive ones) an two water to air exchangers an again nice large tube one not no Chinese shit , oh and his home made stoker pole, which i ise eveyday! going on six yrs now with it an literally not one issue , burns everything an anything and clean too rarely have to clean it out maybe once twice a yr (and I burn year round never shuts down) has a large 24 x 24 door water jacketed, but to my point here when I see people have stoves like this and then the amount of issues that they have with them and just one years time with a brand new $10-$15,000 unit it just blows my mind, not only was the cost for the boiler itself, a massive investment, but all of the extras as well pumps, strangers, and the fact of all these other components that are on them that are happy to be replaced that are expensive as all hell that have failed within one year to me I find that hard to balance out against heating was just traditional, propane, fuel oil, and natural gas at that point it’s already gonna take you years upon years to even come close to breaking even while over here me with my second hand stove that’s basic literally paid for itself within one months time🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻

thanks for your share , had the old school type for 15 plus yrs , then bought this before knowing it was alot more work all the way around keeps you on yur toes always wondering where its blocked for air because its gumed up , that part of this sucks i may go back to what i had before its been about 5 yrs of this gasification thing yes it burns less , yes you need to be tuned into it all the way around even down to having wood thats dry enough .

I'm not sure about in the US, but in some places, under consumer law, companies can't decline warranty if you don't use their products, as long as you are maintaining your equipment within reason. It seems foolish that a unit that cost this much money would not have a breaker, fuse or programmed load limit on those steppers. To just allow them to pull till they burn themselves out doesn't seem acceptable to me. A $200 3D printer has load protection for the steppers.

My CB is entering its 21st year of service and it is bullet proof. Like the 6048 mine is the predecessor and one problem that just surfaced is the rust inhibitor itself. I switched out the water and added the CB suggested inhibitor as directed and all of a sudden the impellers on my pumps disappeared. The zone valves on two fin rad circuits started leaking so it has become impossible to control room temperature. Can't prove it is the inhibitor but some older techs stopped using inhibitors for that reason.

I had the same problem last year with the sample. The accuracy of the test strips have room for improvement. Now I just add a few extra glugs before I send in the sample.

For work I love doing sessional work here in Vermont and work for myself. In spring we have fiddlehead season that lasts for 4-6 weeks and I’ll start in mass/conn then come home to Vermont and end in Maine. In 4 weeks I always make 10k min every season but if we get a early start and a late finish season I have had up to 6 weeks of picking and made $15,000 plus which is all the money I need for all my spring summer and fall to do whatever I want with it. We have been looking for other seasonal work that pays great money like fiddleheads and it’s not easy. The work is brutal and I do all I can to not miss a single day of fiddlehead season,at its peak I’ll make upwards to $900 a day so missing a day is huge. Getting other seasonal wild crops going for work is not the hard part there is plenty of things to forage for, What’s hard is getting buyers . I have done fiddles for 10 years or more now and last year we found a buyer for high branch crandbury bark and got a 1000 pound order at $13 per pound dry so at the end or last years fiddlehead season I took a few weeks to recover and let my hands heal then started in on the bark and it’s gone really well the order has been filled and in 4-5 months I have already made around 25k between fiddles and bark . I have been trying to get some winter work doing the same kind of work and can still get more orders for Bark but it’s way harder in winter just to find it. I guess what I’m getting at is that doing all this bark leaves behind a hell of a lot of sticks and branches and some of them are as think as my leg from more huge high cranberry bushes but there is much more smaller stuff. So rather then getting rid of it all over a bank I have a mountain of branches bundled,bundle after bundle that all weigh 30 to 60 pounds each and have been looking to sell it all in one large load or break it down into $5 bundles of fire starter kindling and am wondering how that pays and or how fast it moves? I live in Vermont and it’s winter and I grew up at the foot of Mount Mansfield skiing resort in Stowe Vermont and all the stores sell extremely overpriced kindling so I’m wondering is it’s worth trying? The bark leaves behind a hell of a lot of byproduct and it seems a shame to waste it but I don’t want to put in a bunch of effort for it not to work which I have down plenty of time wasting in the past, I don’t want to repeat. Seems like the stuff will sell I mean it’s winter in Vermont for half the year and it seems like a safe bet and I already have the product and hair need to break it down into more manageable bundles then sell them for a reasonable price. I can’t sit there all day waiting for it to sell and need a system where people leave money and take a bundle and have it all work out which means relying on good faith which is a gamble. How does selling your product gone and do you have any issues with stupid people taking advantage ? Is it worth the gamble ?

Thanks for the heads up on checking out the adjustment screw. I played around with it but no luck for me. The idle on the carb was super high and I kept on using the saw and putting on the chain brake and I believe this cooked the automatic oiler because when I dismantled it to see what was going on the collar that drives the worm gear had broke in half and the oiler gears that drive the pump had worn down. I should have stopped and adjusted the carb but it was late and wanted to get the most cut before dark. There is a price to pay for everything. Your presentation was clear, easy to understand, and informative. Appreciate it.

Quick tip: never toss that blob of creosote into the bucket where you have the boiler's ashes.

Yeah, I think you get that due to the model you have. The gasification brings more problems, better efficiency but at a cost.

good information,thank you.... could you take a torch and melt that creosote down in place? seems like a big enough investment to get a water treatment tester-not the strips,not cheap but..... just stick the strip in the bleed tube

maybe a silly question but at 13:25 you were showing a torch. I don't understand where the fire is coming from. What was the fire source there? Firebox was empty. Sorry is this is a dumb question.

Good review as my dealer never ever showed me anything other than set it and said your on your own.One of the biggest things that you crossed was the build up of cresote in the air tubes due to the extended off time when not it full burn.
