    I enjoyed your video. I have often wondered about the suggestion of taking measurements behind the seat, as your ears will never be in that position. I am going to try taking measurements using your technique this week. Since you are using REW, have you tried the A1 EVO process? The bass response in my system has improved exponentially after modifying my Audyssey files using this process. There is a TH-cam vid on A1 EVO and you might want to read the details about it on the AVS forums.

    Very interesting video, thanks for sharing your honest opinion with us! Did you also take care of the 30 degrees elevation angle which auro-3d asks for? I am just about to install my first surround system. Supposed as a 5.1.4 with top heights and rears. But now I noticed I can not held the 30 degrees angle from auro due to my room conditions if I want to put them over my floor standing speakers.. I am thinking now to still place the top heights above the left / right channel but add the third layer with a Voice of God to compensate for the missing 30 degree angle of Auro. What u think could that work? 😊

    • @magnoliamo
      @magnoliamo 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For front left and right, it’s more about the angles than the distance between the speakers. I try to use an angle between 22 degrees and 30 degrees from the main listening position. I found with electrostatic speakers it’s better to have a 1 to 1 ration, if fronts are 10 feet apart then you sit 10 feet from the front and left. You should experiment and find the widest angle where the sound stage is the deepest with the voice anchored in between. Try listening to familiar music and then adjust the distance where the voice just floats between the speakers with a wide front stage.

The other benefit is probably somewhat less noticeable with surround content and more applicable in 2-channel. For the multieq filter frequency range should I limit the subwoofer? I came across a video someone suggesting bringing it down from 250hz to 20hz so audyssey doesn’t “kill” the bass. Is this true at all?

    • @magnoliamo
      @magnoliamo 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Squishmallows24 Great question. You would only limit if you have used mini DSP or some other parametric eq to eq your sub or subs. If you haven’t already calibrated your subs then I don’t recommend limiting the audyssey freq range for your subs. By limiting you are defeating one of best features of Audyssey MultEQ XT which is subwoofer calibration. I say you try it out. Try limiting and if you find the bass to be more boomy and less focused or not as tight then let Audyssey do the full sub calibration.

    This movie seems to be extremely divisive. While I'm not sure if most of the negativity comes from people expecting the film to be something it's not (seems to be a huge reason though), I understood that it wasn't a film that was there to answer questions for you about the war itself. Personally, I really enjoyed the film. In any event, I watched the stream of this with Atmos, and while generally I find streaming audio very lacking compared to the UHD, I was absolutely blown away by the audio with this film. Even with the streaming quality audio, it has by far one of the most realistic Atmos mixes I have ever heard, and I have a huge collection of movies that many consider "reference quality" for sound. After viewing it, I said if there's one thing reviewers will absolutely agree on regarding this film, it will be the audio, and that it will be the film this year to beat in that regard. I was actually expecting the audio to be good (surround wise) before watching it, but when that "sound check" at the start happened, I knew I was in for something special. If they were going to actually include something like that, then they absolutely want you to have the most accurate setup for the mix. Needless to say, my expectations were greatly surpassed. Now that the reviews of the disc are finally starting to appear, that seems to be the case. Even if you aren't sure about the film itself, if you care about audio and have a competent Atmos setup, get the disc next week when it is released. Your ears will thank you. edit: Haha. I just got to the end where you scored the audio. It's the first film that I personally gave a 10/10 to for the bedlayer as well, but even though it might not have taken full advantage of the Atmos speakers, I still have to give the overall audio experience a 10/10. It still used the tops and heights in such a way that gave the overall presentation a very natural and realistic sound, and I haven't heard another film yet that put those speakers to such good use.

    I bought mine with the 48 volt power supply, which was a very good upgrade for my power requirements. The big downside of that upgrade is a much higher operating (and idle) temperature of the amplifier. The temperature was quite alarming to the touch. I went ahead and drilled numerous holes in the case, which helped a bit. I now have it sitting on top of an old laptop fan cooler, which keeps it very cool. It's my only gripe with the unit. My first SVS sub was the PB NSD-12 and ut changed my life (obviously in terms if subs) but had to sell it. Some time later I got the SB-1000. It did not have the overall presence or pressure but was still a very satisfying experience with tight articulate bass. I currently have the SB-2000. I should note that I had 4 subs in my setup prior to the SB-2000 so it's not as loud as what I had but it is certainly more accurate and linear. Saving up for a second one to reap the benefits of dual subs. Thanks for your review and take good care.

Dolby Atmos In-Ceiling Speaker Setup and Angles | Is the Dolby recommendation accurate? th-cam.com/video/qK-3ygCFw9g/w-d-xo.html What processor do you have? On Marantz and Denon you cannot select top fronts and top middle in a 4 height speaker setup. It needs to be Top Fronts and Top Rears, or Front and Rear height. I would check to see if you can do Top front and Rear Heights. Just add height speakers to the rear wall.

    What was your master volume? And how much of a house curve do you run? I'm asking because I wanna try and figure out how close my in-room system can get to your experience, and my max at 20 Hz is roughly 95dB at present.

    • @magnoliamo
      @magnoliamo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The volume on the Marantz AV8805A was at my normal listening level. -10db on the reference scale for Leave the World Behind due to streaming volume. The volume for Dune2, I kept at -13db. I got scared and didn’t want to blow the SB3000. I was comfortable with increasing more on the SB16 ultra but held back because didn’t want to overdrive the SB3000. I don’t use a house curve per se. I used REW to optimize the bass response by aligning the subs to the front speakers using crossovers and distance compensation. You can checkout what I did in this video below. What subs are you using? How to get Smoother bass with REW and #marantz #denon th-cam.com/video/5DYUPhM-VDI/w-d-xo.html

      @@magnoliamo, I can go to -15, though that's not flat to 20, but has a gradual roll-off starting around 40 Hz. Down around -6 dB at 20, so it's not excessive. I'm running a slightly unorthodox four 10" wall-mounted subwoofers. They are each in 20 liter enclosures, wired in parallel two-by-two on the wall diagonally across the seating area. Powered by a two-channel Icepower amp with 250W per channel. I could go to 400W to max out their power handling, but that wouldn't probably give me a lot of extra output. They don't really have the output needed for my total 3000 cu.ft. leaky air volume, but for what they take up in space they do an absolutely stellar job for how loud I can listen.
