3 Actions to Go From Manager to Leader
High achievers often get trapped by their own success.
Learn why the mindsets and behaviors that fueled early career wins often become barriers to reaching senior leadership roles. Discover why the relentless drive to do more, better, and faster can actually limit growth, and why stepping out of your comfort zone and changing those habits may be exactly what's needed to advance.
Perfect for:
- Rising leaders feeling stuck despite strong performance
- High performers struggling with burnout
- Managers ready to shift from tactical to strategic
- Ambitious professionals seeking sustainable success
Key themes:
- Why "more of the same" stops working at senior levels
- The hidden cost of perfectionism
- Breaking free from the execution mindset
- The counterintuitive path to greater impact
Listen to learn why your biggest career breakthrough might require doing less, not more.

Congratulations. Getting better and better!!!!!!!!
1. Take ownership: Accept responsibility for your actions and decisions, and avoid blaming external factors. 2. Communicate effectively: Be clear and concise in your communication, and actively listen to others. 3. Show consistency: Be reliable and consistent in your behavior and performance.
I agree 100% that taking ownership creates more respect from others. It's also a bit more complicated than the other habits I shared in the video -- probably worthy of a whole episode on what it looks like to take 100% responsibility. Thanks for your comments.

Its actually sales and balance sheet. Simple don’t owe more than you make
You don't have to be obedient. You can utilize ideas and suggestions given to you by cooperate superiors as a means to ask, "what can we do about this?" In that sense, you're essentially on the same mental level as whomever you're working for, which in turn leads to a more productive conversation opposed to "I give you an order, and you will follow it perfectly!"
Be on the same mental level as the people you work for. Well said. Think of them as a peer, not as a superior.
Can't believe I must be the first person to comment because I genuinely think this is an excellent challenge for the people of today
Be more of yourself. Yes!

Great video!

Great reminder Rusty!! I am grateful for your insight today.
Thanks Denise! I see you applying the gratitude tool right here! :)
Great reframe about fear - thank you, Rusty!
Thanks Anastasia!
That is! a powerful quote.
I know - I love it!
Boy, can I relate!!!! Dad always told me "If it feels good TOMORROW do it!". Now that was usually his advice to keep me from making bad choices...especially in my youth. However, it's equally applicable to motivation as you gave a perfect reminder of how it would feel good later tonight and even tomorrow morning for you because you DID IT! As usual, great thoughts! Thank you!
I love when parents have sage advice like that - something you can remember many years later. That's a great one!
You are so right Rusty, we always have to focus on what we have...one Argentinean speaker said: "If you are not happy with what you have, you will hardly be happy with what you luck"...soo true.
That's a great idea (assuming I'm interpreting it right)! If you aren't happy with what you have, you'll hardly be happy if you have more.
@@rustygaillard exactly, something got lost in translation but basically, it's the idea that we think we need "that thing" and we'll be really happy...well, we'll want something else once we have "that thing" to feel completely happy, and so on...
@@claudiaschroeder8899 Exactly! Thanks for sharing the thought & the quote.
"Today is going to be a great day!" - WORD! <3
Once again a beautiful reminder from you, Rusty, thank you for your gift of clarity!!!
Love it and like your phrase "misuse of our imagination"! :-)
Thank you Rusty for reminding us that we need to keep maintaining our life constantly. Glad you guys have fruit trees there!
Having recently moved/downsized...I can SO relate. As to removing other "junk" from my life, I would definitely say that transformation goes hand in hand with moving and releasing tangible things simultaneously. It's so liberating!
What you resist, persist...sooo true!!! Thank you for the reminder to change it!
Ain''t that the truth!!! No hiding from it! Love it - thanks for the reminder!
Great message, Rusty. We all get to choose. All the time.
SUCH a powerful message and ironically an idea I was very aware of last night in a conversation with my sister. It occurred to me that we really have a CHOICE in SO many matters and there's something very liberating in viewing life that way.
It's amazing to realize how much choice we actually have in our life!
Indeed!
What a great reminder, Rusty, thank you!!!
Wow, that's fascinating!!! A dear friend of mine, www.MelindaBaxter.com, has been doing a cold plunge outside of her home in Maine every day since the stay-in-home measures went into effect. She is inspiring so many people and teaching us, as you suggested, how our mindset speaks to us. Powerful stuff! I didn't know about Wim, thank you for sharing that.
Small world, isn't it? I think her cold plunge in Maine is colder than my cold shower in California! :)
Indeed - but not as cold as what Wim was doing! :-)
Nice video, Rusty. It's great to see you and others grow and expand. There is so much good out for us to experience.
So cool - I didn't know about you singing much less having such a great honor to sing the national anthem for a major league game! Wow! And good points on courage for sure! Happy Monday!!!
Great reminder, Rusty, I do tend to beat myself up for not being further along in some projects than I expected to be. :-)
Yes, we all do that Anastasia! That's why the reminders can help. :)
@@rustygaillard - YEP - so keep 'em comin'! :-)
Great point and as a parent, I can SO relate!
Great perspective - thanks for that!
Powerful!
Thank you for your continual inspiration.
Thanks Anastasia! I’m glad you’re enjoying them.
Great advice Rusty
lovely content
Important to do both..but to your point, reflecting on the journey and how you are getting better every day is so important
Great idea and something I plan to start with my baby daughter.
Hey Rusty, being present nowadays is so challenging. I still need to figure out how to do this. Thanks for Motivation Monday.
Word!
Love it, Rusty - so true - a good reminder of what to say to me to get out of negative space and not wallow in it. Great inspiration!
🙌💯
Great video Rusty - love the energy you're creating in the room - no doubt they were blessed by your message.
I love this tradition and will do this with my granddaughters as well. It's not unlike a monthly visual recap I used to do in my bullet journal that I stopped some time ago...this has inspired me to bring that back as well. Thanks for the usual inspiration, Rusty. And Happy New Year!
What fun. You are so right. It's the journey, adventure, experience that brings meaning to life. Not the accumulation of achievements.
Word! Thanks Rusty for the reminder!
Great message Rusty! For me, I'm trying to remember when I get annoyed about certain inconveniences that I'm lucky to have them to begin with i.e. caretaking for mom can be daunting and frustrating at times, but then I need to remember how blessed I am that she's still around. Today for some reason mobile banking for both her bank and my bank wouldn't allow me to deposit checks into her account or mine so I had to drive to two banks. Then I remembered...it wasn't long ago that was the norm, I didn't always have the option of snapping images of my checks to deposit them. That makes me grateful for the technology that allows me to do that...usually...hahaha! Glad to have this reminder at an important time of year when gratitude is on all our minds. Happy Thanksgiving!!!
