Travel cameras, Micro Four Thirds and some other things
Hello everyone, pretty simple video today, no review, no nothing.
Just a little update about where I stand when it comes to travel / smaller cameras and their usecase, and why I decided to get a Micro Four Thirds camera.
Hopefully, some more reviews soon !
Take care.

    It was never ment to be an allarounder. Foveon is a sensor without colors and low pass signals. Colors are realy unmached but that comes with a priced. This is high end stereo 2 chanel amplifier, not a reciver with 7 channels and bells and whistles. Reviewing this camera for all around use is pontless. Sigma is a« Fight club» for photo nerds and not yours entry level « give me that covers everything» mediocre trash. 😊 Nice review buddy, keep up the good work.🤘😊

      not sure how I should take this comment. The principle of a camera review is to test a camera with the same initial parameters as the other, so that it could be evaluated fairly. If you do not do a fair evaluation, why do a review at all? The SDQH has many qualities, as highlighted in the video. But it also has many drawbacks. Not mentionning them would be dishonest on my part, especially for people that want to get informaed about this camera and would like to learn what it is. It's an awesome camera, but it needs a fair warning for people coming in, for them to know what they're getting into. All of that being said, if you really think that versatile hybrid cameras are "mediocre trash", I don't think you're on the right channel bud, because that's pretty much what I enjoy.

    Some Zuiko lenses are cheap and superior to the panasonic equivalent. I'll suggest the 9-18 mm and the 17 mm f1.8, for travel. Also the 14-150 mm II is a great all purpose lens.

    I use a lot of 4/3 gear plus a Pentax Kp for travel even though I have a Fujifilm XH2, XT3 and XT5, so comparing the XT2 to the Nikon, the Fujifilm is an old camera, not sure when the Nikon came out but I would bet that it is a newer body. So the Z6 is a 2018 release and the Fujifilm a 2016 release and I would say a less expensive camera option when released.

My Pentax K3 with two small lenses weigh just 100 gram more than xt10 with 18mm and em1 with 30mm. So....I like them all, but being a photographer from the early seventies, Pentax K3 with ltd, ( very small primes that is) are still my favourite. Xt10 and em5 or 1, are charming.😅

    Nice review outlining the photographers dilemmas when travelling. I have too many cameras from FF to MFT and Lumix LX100ii. When travelling I always end up including one MFT camera (EM5iii) due to the small, light and weather sealed bodies. I often take one other that I enjoy using like the LX100ii, GM1. Inevitably travelling in europe - it will rain at some point and the EM5 has saved the day many times. Your EM5ii looks great.

The Z6 in a whole other league of image quality and autofocus peformance. So far, even without traveling, the E-M5ii has been really great for hiking and for its computational features. playing quite a bit with the live composite mode currently and it's really a killer feature of this camera for sure (that and the fact that the IBIS is so good in a package so small)

    For me its not really about being dissatisfied or disappointed with my gear ,its more like I want to try different "paintbrushes". I have a painting background and different tools get you different results. Same applies to cameras for me, I get different results with different cameras. I started with Nikon 12 years ago and still use it primarily. But when I want a different feel I have an assortment of bridge cameras that I use and some Canon DSLRs. I particularly like this old Kodak bridge camera that has a very unique bokeh to it, its a very unique texture but there is no manual focus and it focus hunts all the time lol. So I would never take it when I want to shoot fast. I always wanted to try a D2x but I feel the size would bother me at the end of a long walking and shooting day. I usually carry at least two cameras so my bag already feels heavy, I imagine a D2X wouldn't help with fatigue. What do you think about the weight of the D2H? Say with two heavy lenses, the camera and two extra batteries, how long would you be able to walk around with that before it started to bother you?

    • @uncertainrelease
      @uncertainrelease 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do a lot of hiking, and I usually carry around heavy gear in hikes, so I am quite trained for that. I honestly don't know. I've carries my D700 + 100-400 + 12-24 + 80-200 f/2.8 pretty much everywhere, and this camera is easily 1kg body only, each lens coming around another kilogram. I've carried those on top of mountains at the end of 5/6 hours ascents, and had no problem with it but I can totally see how someone wouldn't want to lug around several kilograms of gear around all the time. About the D2X/H though, I quite like using those cameras for regular walks, generally with a relatively small lens on it (either of my DX lenses really, 18-55, 55-200 or 35mm DX). They're quite good for that, but they're annoying to pack for sure.

      only 150 bucks difference? That's a no brainer, get the X-T2. The T2 is an amazing video camera for the price, you get super sharp 4K video, Log profiles if you want to grade your footage, as well as HD 120p that doesn't look like it was shot on a 2008 compact. The X-T1 is nearly useless for video work, it's okay for occasional video snippets, but I'd avoid it for anything else, even if all you want to to is 1080p video. Dynamic range is atrocious, you don't have any control over the autofocus, or pictur eprofile being used, it's all you want to avoid in a video camera. Even when I wasn't doing video at all, I didn't bother with the X-T1, while I still use the X-T2 regularly for video work.

The point was to say that for the money, unless what you wanted was a small camera (which the D60 really isn't, it's still a DSLR at the end of the day), you weren't saving any money by going for the lower end model, as D200s and D80s are just as cheap as the D60 / D40X on the used market.

    Interesting review Matthieu. You made lots of great points about the SD Quattro H. I just wish you had a few Art lenses to use on it, so you could have really experienced its best. It's also good that you didn't though, because that sort of forced you to try to adapt lenses not made by Sigma do it, and that helped you find out things you might not have experienced otherwise. If you ever get another Sigma camera that you need lenses for, I suggest getting at least the 50mm f1.4 Art and the 105mm f2.8 EX OS macro. Those are both really great lenses. I love my 40mm f1.4 Art and my 24mm f1.4 Art too, and plan to get the 28mm f1.4 Art. These Art lenses are just spectacular! (The SD Quattro H really likes them!) I have the xh1 and have had it and used it for years. I have a much better experience with my canon 70d, nikon d700, lumix g7. I personally dont like it lol. The raws are not very nice to process, the low light seems pretty bad, metering isnt as good as my other cameras, focus peaking isnt very accurate either as with some vintage lenses it will say things are in focus when they are not. The ibis can ruin your photos. Its good for video but just feels a bit like a battle ehen it comes to photography. I seem to get a lot less keepers from the fuji xh1 compared to all of my other cameras whether using modern or vintage lenses. I also find that it flattens colours quite a lot so you lose detail within thr colours. If you shoot a field of grass for example it seems to average out the colour rather than seeing all the individual tones and contrast

    • @uncertainrelease

      In what software are you processing your files? X-Trans RAWs generally don't like Lightroom and will require software like Capture One to extract the full potential. The low light of the X-H1 is leagues ahead of the D700 (I know, I have both), and the old 18MP sensor in the 70D really isn't on the same level either. Pretty sure the 16MP chip in the G7 is also weaker on pretty much every front. I've used Fujifilm cameras for 3+ years and I've never had problems in low light, do you have some noise reduction applied (the NR setting in the quick menu). Always have that at -4 otherwise the camera will start softening thing pretty heavily at higher ISOs and you loose detail. Your comment about eh field of gradd is typically the kind of thing that would happen in a software that isn't really adapting X-Trans properly. For years Fujifilm cameras had problems in lightroom with everything green (grass, foliage,...) Focus peakinf is very accurate on the X-H1, be sure to set it to low instead of high and using the videfinder instead of the back screen (the back screen doesn't have that great of a resolution and it can get confused with peaking) I cannot comment on metering, I've never used it on any of my Fujifilm cameras. Having the live exposure view in the EVF makes it easy to simply use full manual mode. Also the files are flexible enough with more than enough dynamic range to allow for a lot of processing in post.

    • @souldigital8148

      @@uncertainrelease I've used capture one, affinity photo, darktable and rawtherapee. Noise reduction might be part of it as it's set to zero by default. My focus peaking is set to high so I will try low. I use the viewfinder most of the time. I'm mostly a street shooter and shot a lot in manual but when there's very contrasty conditions and frequently changing light I use the metering and auto iso to enable me to act quickly to potential shots especially when moving between bright areas and cover and it doesn't seem to be as accurate as my other cameras. In every case I get better shots from my other cameras. I've often wondered if I have issues with the sensor TBF but haven't had the chance to try another copy. There's been cases where the light is fine, iso is 800 or below but have had the muddiest images. Random question actually but if you look at your sensor can you see a smaller rectangle within the main sensor? I've looked at images online and haven't seen that on others and wonder if there's an issue with the sensor surface

    19:25 Nope, I strongly disagree! It's the other way around, 6400 is 12800 in reality. Standard output sensitivity (SOS) is an objective measure, while REI is just a recommendation, hence the name. REI allows manufacturers to set their own EI values based on THEIR OWN OPINION of what EI values produce correctly exposed images. There are upsides and downsides to both, REI is more suited for matrix measuring, whilst SOS is suited for average and spot metering. SOS also measures for JPEGs and can't be used to measure RAW output, but surprise, surprise, every camera measures for JPEGs even when shooting in RAW only and every camera shows JPEG preview and histogram.

    • @uncertainrelease

      I compared that to my Nikon cameras. ISO 12800 on my X-H1 was pretty much the same exposure (using the same exposure parameters as well, so same aperture, same lens, same shutter speed) as ISO 6400 on my Z6. I didn't compare with other brand like Canon or Sony (since I don't have cameras of those brands), but this stayed true for all my Nikon cameras, whatever the ISO range or the range : the Fuji at the same ISO was always about 1 stop darker (cameras tested : Nikon Z6, Nikon D700, Nikon D300, Nikon D60, Nikon D2X. I didn't bother testing it with my D2H and D1X). Unless you want to argue that ISO 6400 on my Nikons is ISO 25600 in reality? I don't think that's accurate at all.

    • @MikeRinz

      @@uncertainrelease That's correct, ISO 12800 on Fuji (SOS) will be somewhere around 6400 on Nikon (REI). What you're saying is Fuji "lying" about their ISO, while in reality Fuji, like Pentax/Ricoh and Olympus are using more objective measuring system - SOS. So Nikon 6400 (REI) will be closer to 12800 (SOS), ISO 64 will be closer to 125. Though with REI we can't really tell what the real ISO is, since that measuring system allows manufacturers to show whatever they want. So your "Fuji lying about their ISO" would better suit manufacturers, which are using REI like Nikon.

    • @uncertainrelease

      @@MikeRinz I get you, but the thing is, there are more manufacturers doing the REI thing than manufacturers doing the SOS thing. Worse, those that are using REI are all the largest companies and the most represented. The definition of REI is variable, but they all land in the same ballpark when it comes to exposure. So even though SOS is a more "accurate" way to do ISO sensitivitites, the fact of the matter is that most people are used to the REI "standard" rather than SOS. When you say that you took your shot at ISO 12800, but what you're getting on SOS cameras is about 1 stop darker than REI cameras, then you feel a little bit cheated. You feel like on the spec sheet you read something that wasn't what you expected (again, because the huge majority of users are using REI and not SOS). Nobody is lying there, I was talking about my feeling as a user. It's important to separate both. When you see "top native ISO : 12800" on the spec sheet but you get the same results as if it was ISO 6400, I think there are grounds to be a little bit dissapointed, don't you think? As for the companies themselves, they are not lying or anything like that, but there is a lack of transparency about this, mostly because everything is buried in tech babble that pretty much nobody pays attention to.

Similarly, the posts you move to calibrate the focusing are different depending on the mirror you want to adjust, so you can adjust your main mirror (that will calibrate your manual focus accuracy) or the secondary mirror (that will calibrate the autofocus accuracy) without having any impact on the other.
