KO II EP-133 as midi controller in Logic Pro
มุมมอง 3.9K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video you'll see how you can use the EP-133 as a midi controller in Logic Pro. I'm showing how to control 4 (3) instrument track in Logic but you can control 16 channels in total. You'll also see how to sync the EP with Logic so that the tempo and start/stop messages are sent from Logic.

Bangin‼️❕‼️
Like from that BODDOW
I hope that future EP units come with Bluetooth for midi.. As many phone based software synthesizers that are out there it works be great to control them without cables in a mobile set up
Yea man, there's so much potential with this machine. I'm waiting until around December to see if TE drops a significant software update. If they don't then I just might end up selling mine.
You earned my sub, dear sir
Hi, could you use the onboard fx on a loop from a Logic audio track?
hi! :) what cable do you need for the output, to record in logic while playing on ep133 ?
You need a mini jack to stereo jack cable. Something like this: shorturl.at/8h22A
wouldn't I need to also connect the midi out of the KO II EP-133 to the audio Interface to sync or will it work with just USB?
No need. USB over midi does the trick.
❤
Very helpful! Thank you !
Amazing work! Thank you for this tutorial!
Solid info. thanks
Man this was so helpful!! I did it on Ableton and works great! Much thanks!
Awesome, thanks man. Great to hear that you've made it work with Ableton!
does this work for tracking beats you made in the EP 133 into logic or is it only to use the KO II as a controller? Midi is hard!
This is only used as a controller. Currently there is no audio over usb function in the KO II but who knows, maybe they'll add it in the future.

Thanks! Hopefully your confidence increases, because this was a great tutorial. Have a EP-133, and only use Logic, so this was perfect for me :D
Thank you! :)
I can't seem to find a way to connect my EP - 133 to my audio interface which is Zen Q, I probably sound very noob but atleast I've got a pair of mini jack to 2 trs, can you help me out on how to connect them?
Hey! I think you're on the right path. If you want to record the audio out from the KO II you just need to take that cable and connect it to the inputs of the Zen Q. Then in Logic create an audio track and set the inputs to the input channels that you're using on the Zen Q to get the audio from the KOII. Press play on the KO and record arm the track on Logic and you should be all good.
I basically want to hear the sound that comes from KO II out of my speakers which are connected to the audio interface. There's a second pair of line out is available but doesn't bring up any sound; sound I connect the KO II as an instrument to the interface perhaps? Thanks for your time and response. @@MrMooseMusic
@@iamdeejaymelody I think, you need to plug the mini jack into the "Output" of KO II, then the 2 TRS endings into the "Input" of your audio interface. Now I don't know if the Zen Q has direct monitoring but try to create an audio track in Logic and set the Inputs of that to the same Inputs that you are using on the Zen Q. I think this should work, in theory at least :D
there's a second pair of line out which i did connect but get only a tiny tiny amount of sound, maybe through logic is better. @@MrMooseMusic
@@iamdeejaymelody We're close, sounds like half a victory :D So at least now you're getting a signal. I think now it is a question of configuration on the Zen Q. Check if it has like some gain switch for the input channels? Maybe there's a software that comes with and inside there you can make some adjustments? On my audio interface I have button next to the input channels that allows me to switch between Line and Instrument. In the case of the KO II you need to go for the Line setting in Zen Q. Hope it works out!
i dont even own it yet but your video helped me so much. im a geek for gear so learning it before i even touch it is something i usually do. great video. make more!
Thank you!
I did the same things but it is not synced. I am pressing play in logic but I don't have anything on EP-133
Ah yea? Could you try to go to EP 133 settings and set the SYNC to IN?
@@MrMooseMusic Same. It is not changing at all. I have a flashing USB icon on my Ep-133 when I press play on Logic but both has their own clock. It is not sync
@@serkandal2209 hmmm, that's very strange. And now when I think about it, the global sync settings are not even relevant here. Have you tried to first connect your KO II to the USB port of the laptop, then turn the device on, and only afterwards launch logic and set the sync options as per the video? It should work. Otherwise, I'm wondering are you able to trigger the midi tracks in Logic? Please reply here so that others with similar issue might find a solution too.
@@MrMooseMusic I did exactly how you did it in the video. Everything is same when we look at the settings but I thing I am missing something. Maybe there is a difference somewhere that you didn't show in the video. Let's say I did something wrong? How can I start over? Should I go default settings somewhere with both or something else?
@@serkandal2209 Always a good idea to start all over again! Try using another project on the EP 133 instead of resetting to factory settings.
GReat job!!!! mr oizo vibes here!!!!!!!!
Thanks!

Hey man, love this, running speculations on what kind of person make that music and name tracks like this, I have no clue but I'll subscribe to your channel. Ps : artwork is great !🎉

Hi and thanx !!! I know it was 6y ago (!!) But do you remember if it's possible to automate paning with cc ? Thanx again !!!
Hi there, unfortunately I don't think it's possible to automate the pan parameter. Of course, after recording the individual stems you can then automate the pan in the DAW, but yeah it's bummer. Image if all these "sub" parameters could be automated via midi, then you would hook up a midi controller packed with knobs and faders and would be able to manipulate the sound even more but this is not possible unfortunately, not even with the TR-8S. I still love the machine though :D
wtf

I don't get the pop-up at 00:30? any help?
Nice, keep it up!
Deephouse 4 that BODDOW
Is there any way to automate the A/B buttons using MIDI? It would be so helpful if I could sequence whether or not rhythm A or B is playing in the context of a song.
I’m not sure, cause I’ve never tried it. What you could try is to send midi data from the device to your DAW by pressing the A/B buttons and check if your DAW receives midi from those buttons and if yes what value it is receiving. If this works, then it’s just q question of writing automation data in your DAW for that midi CC.
@@MrMooseMusic Great idea! I didn't realize you could reverse engineer MIDI mapping in that way. Other than using keyboard controllers, I'm fairly new to MIDI. Thanks for the response.
@@fraaaaaaaaay let me know how it goes please. I’m curious, and maybe it would be helpful for others as well.
Does anyone know how to do this for the TR8s?
Hi, it's essentially the same. You can reference the midi implementation PDF from this page to get the concrete midi CCs. www.roland.com/au/support/by_product/tr-8s/owners_manuals/
@@MrMooseMusic Thanks. So I figured it out shortly after posting the above. You actually have to go into the MIDI settings and turn the Rx EditData function to 'on' for it to work.
@@MrMooseMusic Thanks. I actually figured it out shortly after posting the above. You actually have to go into the MIDI settings menu and turn on 'Rx EditData' for the TR8s to receive control change messages. You'd think the would ship them with it turned on by default but...

Thxalot
Can this sort of thing work with windows?
Nice vid! Is it possible to extend a pattern with 32 steps or 64 steps? Instead of the 16 steps
Hey. On the TR8 it's not really possible. On the TR8s it is.
03:28 Copy pattern
Hi. How did you set the CCs te settings in the picture? Where can these CCs be found for TR-8S?
Hi. Will it work the same on TR-8S? What settings must be in Tr-8S to be controlled via midi. Is TR-8S control via pads from the keybord possible?
Hi thank you for the great tutorial I was wondering if you knew if you could stop the tr8 sending messages back through the midi in to my synthesizer is this possible please. Any help would be thoroughly appreciate it kind regards Heath
thank you for the very useful jpeg. super cool man.

I am missing a tutorial how to copy from Variation A to Variation B. Can't find anything on that.
Thanks for the useful trick dude, but I have a question, how can I do to assign the differents tracks of my tr-8 to the respectives tracks of an external sequencer ? (I want to use my digitakt to sequence and control my tr-8)
Hey man, since I don't have a digitakt I can't really answer your question, but this doesn't keep me from answering anyway :D. Each sound of the TR-8 has its own note number. So I guess you have to set a midi track on your digitakt to trigger the desired sound on the tr-8 by directing the signal to the corresponding note number. The note numbers you can find here: static.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/TR-8_MIDI_Imple_Chart_e02_W.pdf This is the idea, I guess in theory this should work. Try it :)
@@MrMooseMusic thanks dude, I'll try and I'll tell if and how it works!
@@MrMooseMusic I succeed to pilot the TR-8 on the DT!
@@nlewandowski3228 Awesome man. Happy to hear that. Btw was the general idea what I suggested or something radically different?
