I got mite biters and shb maulers.i don't have purdue stock of any kind or any other genetic from a lab a university or Anyone elses stock.nobodys.i have truly feral bees that created biting and mauling i create nothing but all my hives have these hygenic traits as well as smr and vsh i believe are 2 different things still...Should I get the credit for "creating biting mauling queens"? Or should I get credit for breeding a decade and spreading the genetics.I think the latter is appropriate. By the way i open mate and give or take run 50 hives every year and they all have these traits. All of them. Im treatment free as well with 30 percent losses some years

There are many things to learn from this man….respectfully. Michael Bush is more about the Bees and Palmer is more about a commercial approach to beekeeping. Most new bee keepers aren’t about being commercial…there’s a big difference between the 2! Folks ask yourself why you are beekeeping, and then choose your style. I’ll stick with a chemical free approach, makes sense if you are eating it!

46:00 Absolutely valuable advice. The individuals you've named there are known for brow-beating down anyone who has bee-sense and truly understands what's going on in the hive. Bush never budges on any topic however incorrect he may be. The woman you describe sounds absolutely miserable, so happy to have not made her acquaintance. The auxiliary heating of the hive is another trend that I hope finds its place in the dust bin soon. Your stock is rising, Michael Palmer. Preach it.

Big difference commercial goals versus natural methods..instead use thicker wood in hives to imitate trees, horizontal hives, etc. Should attract feral, local bees with better genetics adapted to local conditions.

Just out of curiosity, how are you managing mites and queens? Im entering my 3rd year with bees and I am going to try this OTS method. The president of our bee club has been a beek for over 20 years and has been doing this a couple years now amd he is leading us in this direction. When I 1st stared beekeeping a few years ago I watched Mike Palmer & it just blended in with all the enormous amount of info out there. I read the old bee books like he does but fell into the trap of its outdated info, as many of the so called modern beekeeping experts tell you while trying to sell you something! Like Mike says listen to the old masters, they used the same system to repopulate, not the failed system we have been hammered into using, buying new bees! The only difference between then & now is Varro & Small Hive Beetles. I wished I had listened to him & the Old Masters, it would have saved me lots of $$$$ replacing my bees. As CC Miller says in his book 50 years among the bees “ learn to sift the chaff from the wheat & you will be successful! “ In our world today that means there is a lot of beekeeping crap out there you need to ignore & there is good info like what Mike Palmer offers for free, use it to succeed! Happy Beekeeping.

You are absolutely right. I have been enormously frustrated watching some of the "new age" keepers slandering the old masters. Barnyard Bees is one channel I watched just an hour ago. He completely discounts old masters and says to only learn from the new up-to-date beekeepers. The new beekeeping crowd needs a lesson in respect and also a better understanding of bee biology which they seem very happy to skip over. I enjoy Michael. It's a puzzle why so many of the new-wave beginners get so many views and subscribers. I share your frustration!
