Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe - end credit squeeze

New BBC guidelines have shrunk the end credits to a matchbox and put trailers for their other crap shows on the end too. Charlie Brooker doesn't like it... "Crushed by the clunking dead fist of marketing" indeed.

I kind of fear Sick on a Widow has just set off the gameshow alarm at ITV 2 and Stephen Mulhern or Matt Edmonson are already filming pilot episodes.

Yeah well, everyone in London is nutty if you ask me. I was out admiring Los Angeles' worst neighbourhoods I'm there like "look at all this space wow...I mean...wow. haunted by dead gangsters? Bl**dy vain weren't they, crikey."

Back in the early days of ITV credit squeezes, they had the credits at the side with a background at the centre stage so they can squeeze the background instead.

The best TV chef by a country mile. Some modern chefs may be come across a having good technical skills, but Keith was a genius and in a league of his own. Most of the best TV chefs today confirm Keith was their inspiration.

I've been on Floyd revision and it's so refreshing to see his skill, not just cooking, but his command of the English language and humour. He has been immortalised.

@@ryand141 Glad to hear it my friend. I’ve rediscovered Floyd in the last year after first watching Floyd on France as a child. He is wonderful and has created a whole movement for better food and good times shared. See you around 🍷 😊

I've been annoyed with this credit squeezing practice that TV channels do since I was 8 or 9 years old. Back then, after I watched an episode of Thomas & Friends on CiTV, I felt very annoyed and somewhat upset when it's end credits to the programme were squeezed and it's audio muted so CiTV could play their silly promo over it, and to make things worse, it was longer than the end credits too. That's how the frustration all began back then for me.

I worked as a runner for a time in post production. Didn't get very far with it (you had to be willing to show your face in what's called the 'MCR' where the edit assistants worked. Hated it, always felt like I was working in IT). Ended up quitting because the pay and hours were so low. Moved out of London and scrapped together jobs editing/doing videography for student films to get experience while working in bars. Best decision I ever made going by this video and having kept in touch with others I used to work with.

The toll a lifetime of alcohol abuse takes is absolute incredible, Floyd is an amazing cook and I love everything he has ever been in. That being said. he's only in his late 50's here, perhaps just turned 60. He has the energy and voice of someone 30 years older, still though his incredible personality is still their, love you Floyd, wish you were stil with us.

I’m a proficient home cook. I can confit and I’m comfortable around bean dishes. Our beloved French restaurant closed a few years ago and so I decided to make cassoulet for our thanksgiving here in the US. This video popped up on TH-cam and I almost dismissed it with the producer’s Cheesy pie decision to have the chef cook on the pitch. But the love in the comments have forced me to pull up a chair, pour another glass, and learn.

The whole response to the McCannns case was disgusting. Loosing a child must’ve been devastating for the parents, and having thousands of reporters harassing them for information and some even suspecting them must’ve been hell. And, the truth is, practically none of those reporters cared. All they wanted is a juicy story for the tabloids that would sell lots of copies and would get their readers something interesting to read, so that their readers can become invested into a story that they had no right to be involved in. Because, in the end, the reporters weren’t interested in seeing the truth unfolded, they only wanted something interesting to give intrigue to their boring, miserable lives. It was a morbid fascination. That’s why we still see articles nowadays about cases like this: to keep interest, to keep intrigue. Because that morbid fascination brings in readers and money. It’s the same reason horror films are constantly made.
