Black Mirage Build Diary Mod 7
This video covers the construction of my black Mirage race car. It was a long project but I am pleased with the way it turned out. I did drive it on the Bonneville Salt Flats in the "150 Club" class. 1950 lbs & 620 BHP... a fun car.

This is a photo analysis of a few pictures I received from Pat Dalla Rosa, a first cousin, in May of 2023. First picture is of the surviving children of Dennis Rooney (1830-1908) and "Annie" Rooney (1844-1941) The names of the children on the back is if you were to place a finger on the name and a finger on the face your fingers would be touching through the photo. I am very confident that Tom ...
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a unique display of desert flora and fauna. For newcomers it is an excellent way to learn about life in the Southwest Desert. This was digitized from an old 1997 8mm camcorder tape.
Desert Rain Storm
มุมมอง 45ปีที่แล้ว
Unless you have lived in the desert, you don't know much about our "Monsoon Season". In late summer, moisture moves up from the Gulf of Mexico and brings violent, localized rain storms. These may not last long and sometimes the rain may fall on one side of the street and not on the other! I filmed one of these rainstorms in August 1998 with my 8mm camcorder and digitized it so non-desert dwelle...
Wolves
มุมมอง 107ปีที่แล้ว
This is a short video of two hybrid wolves that I owned 25 years ago. Contrary to what most people believe, hybrid wolves can be nice pets if they are raised correctly and provided with the right environment. They should NOT be around small children. I bought Wolfie at 6 weeks old from a breeder and held him against my chest in the passenger seat on the drive home. From then on we were tightly ...
Casa Car Show 1998

The Casa de los Ninos was an annual car show held in Randolf Park in Tucson, AZ. It was a charity fund raiser and the entry was free to the public, making it a very popular event. This video is from an 8mm camcorder taken in 1998. The show was discontinued in the park "because cars were running over park sprinkler heads." A can of spray paint could have been used to mark their location... but n...

Area 52- View of "The Carbiliner" & Playa
มุมมอง 787ปีที่แล้ว
In 2016 I drove over to a dry lake in Nevada where my friend, Rob Freyvogel, was going to test his Bonneville streamliner. Rob dubbed this "Area 52", a tongue-in-cheek reference to the mysterious "Area 51", so beloved by sci-fi fans. Rob's streamliner was a very unique design that showed great speed potential. The test session went well overall but later, at the Bonneville Salt Flats he was abl...
East Berlin In The Cold War
มุมมอง 172ปีที่แล้ว
A very short video of what it was like in East Berlin during the Cold War of 1961-1963 when I was stationed in Germany with the US Army. If you are interested in what it was like, watch the movie "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold" with Richard Burton. It is the best representation of the grim, colorless atmosphere that was the East Zone. Music: Opening from "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold".

Great music!
I am a 73 year old who well remember the early can am years before the Porsche takeover. I stopped to comment when I heard "3000 dollars for a body and chassis". Had one of those "if I had only known" moments.
This video is awesome. Thanks for sharing all the details. The craftsmanship on this built is just amazing. At first I tuned in because I love the Mirage, I grew up watching Hardcastle and McCormick. But it checked all the boxes. Aircraft parts, SCTA rules and a just overall really cool to see the hot rod spirit. Were you an aircraft mechanic? I also try to get aircraft parts and pieces on my builds.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed my video. No, I wasn't an aircraft mechanic but years ago I joined the Experimental Aircraft Association and took a course here at Pima Community College in Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics simply to acquire techniques and skill that would be useful in race car construction. It was well worth the effort.
New subscriber. I havent seen the entire video yet, but intend to do so later. I am grateful that your narration is detailed and the photos depict the creation of your vehicleb in detail. Ever since the 1990s I have dreamt of possibly getting a kit car for a Shelby Cobra 2 seater. The plans I read up on in magazines mid 1990s were to be built on a Ford Mustang 5.0 1992-95. I have worked on that 5.0 a little and I like that car. I have my doubts I will do that, but who knows. The weight reduction u mention is imo great. th-cam.com/video/Lp4zTYJ68r4/w-d-xo.html I wish that Henry Fords Hemp car of the 1940s was mass produced as the cars hemp material allegedly weighed half as much aas steel with twice the strength and cannot rust. I speculate that "Big Oil" didnt wantc people driving on clean burning hemp fuel that we could grow on farems and employ countless farmers to grow 4x as fast as trees. The main downside to the hemp car is that unlike steelbI suspect the Hemp cars body may be flammable. But idk. Even if flammable the fact alone that that car weighed close to half the weight of the average car of that time period means it wouldv consume much less fuel.n Henry Ford 1940s was photographed slamming a sledghammer into the rear trunkb and it was undamaged, th-cam.com/video/3F5DcjwfMfY/w-d-xo.html Within the last twenty years Almost halfway thru and i am looking forward to finnishing your video later. ty for making it, Happy trails.

2 of the most hated cars.mustang 2 front suspension and chevy vega taillights 😮
You don't know how really disappointed I am that you are unhappy about the Mustang II front suspension. Chuck Weiss at Ford Motor Company put a lot of effort in designing it to have excellent geometry. You can't tell Chevy Vega tail lights from a Chevy van???
The fact that this started just 3 years after WW2 ended, so shocking
Neil,the little boy,is you,right?
Thanks

Japan is a very beautiful nation, with very beautiful and hardwork habitants, but sadly was a ruined nation by Hideki Tojo and his militia with their g3n0c1d4l mindset that they could conquer the world. Now the nation image is ruined forever, but at least It's over now and Japan managed to recover and to become a rich country and now is a peaceful nation. And gave us Koda Kumi and Ayumi Hamasaki ❤
Great video, I’ve been looking to get my hands on one of these for a while
Thank you. Keep looking, they are out there.
I'm a little curious about what the "real" location of that place (Area 52) is.
The term "Area 52" is used purposely to avoid saying where it actually is. I can only reveal that it is on private property in Nevada.
Nicely done sir,
Thank you, Ron.
Hello I've done mods myself had problems finding proper spring strength springs cutting down springs, and upgrading brakes I always had problems finding proper master cylinders to have good pedal and good brakes and not having a axle lock up , finding proportion valves that work to, so many issues when doing the mods I've done , and spend time and money wow the money I've blown lol , current project adding a rear engine to Chevrolet Ventura van to make it dual engine but looks normal, sleeper , just a thing I guess can't leave anything alone
Thank you for these great and precious pictures. I linked your site to Johnson Airbase Japan 1945-1977. Thank you
In 2013 my wife Joline and I returned to Germany for a visit. We went to my old kaserne in Babenhausen but it was closed and fenced off while the German government decided on what to do with the facility. As we approached the now-closed main gate, a German guard and his dog came out on the other side of the fence to meet us. He spoke no English and my German was poor at best but he did manage to indicate that it was closed. I indicated that I was a former American soldier who had lived there many years ago and he managed to say that he was a former East German border guard...and pointed to his shoulder, indicating that he had been a former officer.
When I took my Mirage to a car show years ago, the president of our club guided me back into a space for the show. As I got out he said "That aint no VW engine!" I said "Nope. It's a 327 out of a 65 Vette." I've got to get mine back together and back on the road. That car stopped traffic every time I took it out. Most common question I'd hear from people passing by was "What the hell is that thing?" At one cruise night I parked and a guy walked over and knew right away what it was. Said he hadn't seen a Mirage in years.
Yes, the three most common questions are:🙄 1. What is it? 2. How fast will it go? 3. How much did it cost?
Nope! It ain’t no VW! Thank you for showing it!
You are welcome.
Does anyone know how fast this went unofficially on dirt?
Was at the Salt Flats and saw Carbonliner before and, unfortunately, afterwards. That was a bad weekend for a couple of owners. Wishing Rob progress towards his recovery and continued strength to his family and support group.
Not the slightest idea what you are showing in this video. How about an explaination...
Read the description under the video. It was a test session for a very fast land speed racer.

Thank you. Now if the weather at Bonneville would cooperate! It was rained out in 2022 and it looks like 2023 is going to be down the tubes, too.
What car is that ? Cool to see ya in action !
Thank you. It is a car I built. The body is a modified Manta Mirage, the chassis is one I built. See: th-cam.com/video/LFu8QfUVHlU/w-d-xo.html
Hmmm, Holley carb, backfire, now runs rich. Power valve? I love your calm, slow, gentle story telling style. Please more tech stuff like stats, problems solved, encounters with mere mortals you might meet, etc.
Thanks, Robert. Troubleshooting, no matter what technology, is simply applying logic and reason to solving a problem. Richard Feynman, the famous physicist, wrote that he gained a reputation as a kid in Brooklyn for fixing radios "by thinking". Same process.
May I ask the background music? It's really classic and peaceful!
Click on "show more" for the titles. It is Japanese Koto music performed by a master. I agree with your assesment.

Japan was never occupied. thats a usa propaganda. cause usa did not have any efect in Japan. whats more usa is the loser of the world war in asia, usa ended up the war losing by surrendering the philippines.

Loved the photos. I was an Army brat in Germany from 1951-54 and again in 1959-62. I also served two years there in the Air Force, 1968-70. Our family visited many of the same places, but we never got to Italy or East Germany. Especially liked the GP photos. I went to many formula and sports car races when I was there in the Air Force, but never got to Nurburgring. Went to Spa several times, my favorite race track. And my future wife and I had our first date at Hockenheimring in 1969. Married 53 years now. By the way, my dad was in V Corps in '51-'54.
I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures. I went back to Germany as a GI from 1961 to 1963. I will add a soundtrack to this video soon and also post a video of East Germany. -Regards, Neil

It’s so amazing to compare the similarities and differences of these photos with my recollections of Tokyo over the last 20 years. Things have come so far.
From the pictures that I have seen of Tokyo it looks quite different now!
